Description
We are an active project that aims to promote an ecological and regenerative daily practice, inviting you to share, live, and learn with us.
The goals of the project are inspired by the book Evening Thoughts, by Thomas Berry. Our name, Anima, comes from what gave the first breath of life to the earth and is what inspires our souls. We provide respite from a western civilization that is addicted to material gain and consumption. In fact, this is our primary goal and is at the heart of our existence.
Since 2014, we have welcomed guests from around the world through our rental listings and artist in residency program.
The project is in it's 9th year and is currently managed by husband-and-wife team, Sarah and Sebastian.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
We are located in a rural area of Mexico, 10 minutes from the closest pueblo (San Isidro Mazetepec) and one hour outside of Guadalajara (the second largest city in Mexico). Our farm offers a tranquil respite from the busyness of city life. Here, you can immerse yourself in nature, while learning the skills needed to live in harmony with the natural world. We will exchange stories over weekly shared meals, swapping perspectives and cultivating curiosity. Day trips to local parks and/or the city can be arranged to enrich the volunteer experience.
Help
We are looking for volunteers who can help us in the following areas: gardening, pool maintenance, animal care, social media/marketing, site-specific art (murals, sculptures, etc.) Prior experience working within the philosophy of permaculture is a plus. Volunteers work 15 hours a week in exchange for lodging. Food is not included, but volunteers are welcome to any fruit, veggies, or eggs we have available.

You will stay in our eco-dome, located in the center of the project. The dome has electricity, but no running water. Compost toilets are located directly outside the dome and a fully functioning bathroom is located 50 meters from the dome in the main house. Volunteers will have access to the main house for cooking during the week. On the weekends, volunteers will use an alternative kitchen space to prepare meals.
This exchange is ideal for volunteers that appreciate more privacy and independence. What else ...
We have a natural pool that is great for cooling off in the afternoons. A multi-language library of books is available for you to enjoy. We visit the local town regularly, and you can catch a ride with us if you need to pick up supplies or simply want to experience life in a Mexican pueblo. There is a bus line that runs from the town to Guadalajara, with service several times a day.
We have four friendly dogs, one cat, farm animals, and a rich community of insects! It is important that volunteers are comfortable being with animals during their stay.A little more information

His years of experience in hospitality were abundantly obvious when, for example, he thought to offer coffee to our guests in the morning. It was a small gesture, that illustrated how quickly Jeffrey can read a space/situation and see how he can be helpful.
