Description
Hi, I’m Dan. I live on a small off-grid quinta in Portugal, surrounded by olive trees, fruit trees, vegetable beds and beautiful countryside.
I share the land with two dogs, a cat and chickens. As I work quite a lot, I’m looking for a calm, kind and motivated Workawayer who enjoys animals, nature and simple outdoor living. The main help would be walking the dogs, feeding and cleaning the chickens, watering and weeding the vegetable garden, and helping with small projects around the land.
The quinta is in a beautiful area with fantastic walks straight from the land. It is a relaxed, happy space, so I’m looking for someone with easy-going, positive energy who enjoys being close to nature.
Depending on the time of year, we may harvest fruit together, pick vegetables from the garden, forage for mushrooms, or work on small outdoor projects. I’m happy to share what I know about gardening, off-grid living, basic construction, plumbing and solar systems.
There is a friendly off-grid community in the area, with eco markets, small gatherings and local events. I also sometimes host events on the land, so there may be opportunities to meet people from the local community.
Workawayers can learn about off-grid living, basic gardening methods, animal care, irrigation, construction, plumbing and solar set-ups. If you are interested, I’m happy to show you how I have set things up and answer questions as we go.
There is plenty to enjoy in the surrounding area, including walking, nature, swimming spots, markets and community events..
Help
Help is around 3 hours per day.
Typical tasks may include:
Walking the dogs
Feeding and cleaning the chickens
Watering and weeding the vegetable garden
Helping create or improve irrigation on the land
Light gardening and general outdoor help
Occasional small construction or maintenance projects, depending on interest and ability
Nothing is too intense. The main thing is that you are reliable, animal-loving and happy to help with the rhythm of the land.
Types of help and learning opportunities

Accommodation
Accommodation is in a comfortable caravan with a large 25m² decking area at the front and an insulated roof. It has cooking facilities, electricity, water, and a lovely outdoor living area.
There is an additional hot outdoor shower on the land, as well as a bath with a fire underneath, a BBQ area and a large stone pizza/bread oven.
Workawayers can help themselves to eggs, salad, fruit and bread for breakfast. I cook most evening meals when I’m around.
