    Description

We are a family living in the middle of nature, at Taibará Natural Reserve, located in the municipality of San Rafael, Antioquia, Colombia, in the Arenal River basin. We enjoy conserving nature, growing our own food organically for daily consumption, and building based on the principles of bioconstruction.

We are united by the dream of building and consolidating an eco-tourism project that brings together the different inhabitants of the basin, with the purpose of contributing to their economy, rebuilding the social fabric, and protecting the territory.

Taibará Natural Reserve is located 9 km from the town of San Rafael and about 110 km from Medellín (approximately a 3-hour drive). It is a private conservation initiative that, together with other reserves, protects around 300 hectares of forest.

    Experience at Taibará Natural Refuge

At our place, volunteers can learn and take part in different activities related to forest life, nature conservation, and community living. Some of these are:

Bio-construction: building with wood and bamboo, earthen walls, stone floors, and maintenance of existing structures.

Agroecology: planting fruit trees, timber trees, and vegetables, preparing compost, caring for seedbeds, and working in the organic garden.

Organic food processing: making jams, wines, spices, and other artisanal products from the harvests.

Healthy cooking: supporting meal preparation and learning traditional and natural recipes with local products.

Handicrafts and signage: creating handicrafts and making signs for trails and spaces inside the reserve.

Space maintenance: cleaning trails, caring for gardens, and general organization.

In addition, volunteers can also experience and learn from the different activities we offer to our visitors, such as guided walks, fire or river rituals, handicraft workshops, reconnection practices (yoga, meditation, forest bathing), and cultural gatherings.

Outside of the daily work, volunteers can enjoy the beautiful landscapes of San Rafael and San Carlos, towns surrounded by crystal-clear rivers for swimming, forests for hiking, and a great variety of fauna and flora.

There is also the chance to interact with the local community, where other interesting projects are being developed, and where both traditional farmers and people from other parts of the country live.

Close to the reserve there is an Ashram, where it is possible to attend Yoga classes with a voluntary contribution.

In the evenings, we often gather around a campfire to share stories, play games, and enjoy a cultural exchange.
