Description
Sorry, NO POSIBILITY UNTIL MARCH
To all the kind people that would like to be part of our project: Please check our calendar!
Would you like to know about the fascinating life of bees, how they gather néctar and pollen from the flowerbearing trees of the Northern Patagonian rainforest, and how their honey gets to your table? If so, this would be the place for you.
We are beekeepers in the beautiful Región de Los Lagos, south of the little Río Puelo town, next to Río Blanco, at the foothills of Yates Volcanoe. Also sheep, vegetable garden, that is not what we are best of.
We have an average of 70 hives, and do all the harvesting, packaging and marketing of several products: honey, honeycomb, candles, honeybread and mead. You'll have the oportunity to learn the whole process of beekeeping.
We try to live sustainably: reduce, recycle, reuse. We make our own bread, do a lot of preserves and canning, buy meat and some vegetables locally produced. That takes time, but you will enjoy the meals.Types of help and learning opportunities

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities
This specific place, Cochamó, is one of the last areas in Chile to get colonized and was for a long time only conected to the rest of the country by boat. There were no roads covering all the comune until the 21th century, and stil several places can only be reached on a horseback, or by foot. That is one of the reason that the culture here, the way of living is very particular. People were used to solve every problem on their own, or together with neigbours, and the kids, only on generation back, were sent to boarding school, only getting back home for the summer holidays. The agriculture was based earlier on subsistencia, everything had to be grown here, even the wheat for the bread. Cattles, milkproduct, such as cheese and butter, honey, all had to been shipped to Puerto Montt, a journey that could last up till one week. Now we have a roadnet, with regular bus services, but still, certain part of the culture seems to have changed very little. This, without doubt, is Patagonia.
Help
We are looking for a helping hand in the tasks with the bees, the kitchengarden, the greenhouse, the orchard, the garden around the house, also with sheep and lamb. Which tasks, all depend on the season. And eventually we will work with construction, firewood, maintence og fences and channels. You do not need any specific skills, all you need is interest an joy of learning.
Also, we would like to construct something to evacuate water from a new construction. This house has got a ecological toilet with separator so the water froma kitchen, shower and orine have to bee evacutated.Languages
