    Description

We bought a farm (in late October 2023) and could do with some extra hands! Plenty to do for experienced or non-experienced. We offer you a retro caravan with two singles or parking space for your own van or tent with blow up mattress and excellent food - we grow lots ourselves, otherwise mostly organic and local where possible. Compost toilet. Hot shower down at the sheds. We live in a tiny house and enclosed shed next to it. Good off grid power with some wifi. It is a sheep farm, but the flock is small as we breed up a bit. We are only 7.5km from Tuatapere town that has all amenities. Invercargill is about 75km. You can go to the beach or bush or mountains on your time off.

We are passionate about permaculture and can talk about it while having breaks and working. See our website for more info. Tasks could include digging, cutting wood, weeding, planting, making biochar, building, tending animals, and all sorts of basic DIY work for getting a homestead going. We work with helpers side by side most of the time (90%+) and will vary work tasks so you learn plenty.

Helpers should come for 1 week or more. We reserve the right to ask you to leave if you are not working well enough. Helpers are treated really well and learn alot! We cannot cater for vegans as there is no such thing as vegan food, vegetarians are fine to apply. We'll ask for 4-6 hours of work 6 days a week, but this depends a bit on what tasks we are doing and how fast you work. We provide food on your day off as well.

Please give us a day or two to reply before requesting to others - there is no point us replying and you reply back to say someone else replied first! This is NOT people care... as it wastes our time. If you have a fully complete profile preferably with a good reference(s), and you write us a decent request, there is no reason for us to say 'no thanks' - we are usually able to fit in anyone who is offering great help.

NOTE: The reviews from 2019 and before are from our old homestead in Australia where we hosted many work exchangers.

We often take helpers to other Permaculture related events (that's our social life mostly) and to bush for a walk or to the beach for a swim or to catch a wave. We can pick you up from local town or even from Invercargill.
