    Description

    It’s been a ride!

Greetings workaway family! From the other side.

It was an amazing and immensely rewarding experience volunteering with Workaway over the past couple of years and now, I believe it’s time to start giving back. I hope to make it an even more rewarding and fun experience for myself and more so for our community of Workawayers by onboarding as a host.

Recently, I chanced upon a piece of land covered by lush forests all around and tucked at around 9000ft in the mountains of Himalayas.

This little adobe is what they write about in fairy tales; Except, it will not stay this way in the coming years once the place gets developed like the villages nearby, for commercial exploitation of the place through tourism.

Along with the advent of tourism as is evident in the villages of Kasol, Tosh etc, come the biggest adversaries of environmental conservation - waste and pollution in the form of single-use plastics, single-use glass, and many different types of waste which take millions of years to decompose if they do. This in turn robs the mountains of their natural beauty as well as accumulation of these waste products in huge mounds in the open is destructive to the ground water as well as the flora and fauna of nearby areas in the coming years.

On realising that the problem is only going to compound in the coming years if action steps are not taken immediately, I saw the opportunity to convert this piece of land into a self-sustainable eco-village.

Although, I don’t know the heads or tails of creating an eco-village, I believe that once I set my eyes on a definite goal, it’s only a matter of time before I turn it into reality.

Through this initiative, I hope to set a precedent before the beautiful villages of Parvati Valley, which are blessed with an abundance of nature but seemingly disregard it completely in the face of advancing commercialisation that it can be rewarding by living in harmony with nature as well as educate them about the real responsibility of giving nature the respect it deserves.

Apart from that, my second initiative as a host is create a community of like minded individuals from all walks of life and every part of the world. A completely judgment-free environment where people of all cultures, ethnicity and gender feel loved and understood and can interact in social situations without any fear of discrimination.
This part might have sounded odd, if you come from some of the more developed countries, but in India, this problem still persists by large and it’s something that should be rooted out from the fabric of our society.

Once we are successful in our primary missions, we will open our community to every person who has a desire to be helpful in the conservation of the environment to come and learn the ways of remaining sustainable and still make a decent profit out of it. Hopefully our processes will make an impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of people who wish to find a way of living in harmony themselves, but face challenges on the way to get there.

Most of these projects will be filmed by a documentary crew and converted into various video formats to be released to the public through different channels. This will help people from around the world to draw inspiration start their own journey towards a healthier and more sustainable future.

There are more things to do here than you can probably imagine, from taking a walk in the woods and stumbling on a hidden waterfall to hiking up the mountain trails with the dogs in the evening. Work here is defined simply as whatever it is that your heart tells you to do. You can be reading a book an entire day and tell us all about it in the evening during a bonfire and that’s great work! Take the guitar and strum away. Get creative, get dirty, bring out your inner child and have fun the way you used to when you were a kid, unburdened by the idea of “work” that society cultivates into us. Give me a hand with preparing dinner whenever you feel like.

Most of all, think of this place as your own home and let the magic happen!

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

I wish to make this as indulging an experience for you as possible. There is a vibrant community of locals in the village approximately 20 minutes from our place with rich cultural traditions dating back centuries which you can explore. An abundance of spectacular waterfalls in every direction of the forest, full of Deodar and pine trees. If you are lucky enough to find a patch of wild strawberries, don’t hesitate to help yourself to some. Stargazing is a regular nightly ritual around here as we experience almost no light pollution due to the forest cover. As of now, there are no permanent buildings on the site so you are free to try out your natural building ideas here. Learn about the healing properties of natural herbs that the local villagers hunt and maybe even go for a few herb-hunting sessions.

All I am looking for is you bring your most cheerful and non-judgmental self and get creative with your talents anyway you like - there are absolutely no restrictions apart from not showing proper respect where intended.

If you have a thing about permaculture or soil, feel free to help in the garden, or start your own project of building a food forest in the surrounding jungle.

Fancy yourself an artist- go and paint any surface you can find (I will help arrange the eco-friendly colours)

Anything you decide is worth bringing to the table, will always be welcome!

  • What else ...

    What else ...

All time is time off - because I don’t tend to define work in the general way. Still, if you feel you have tired yourself over the day with heavy stuff and need to cool down, you can take a dip in the natural hot water tub we have built here, or go down to a party in the village; there are a lot of cafés in the village below and some or other has a party going on almost every second day that you can enjoy. It’s your time off and I would be happy to assist you with anything you desire and is possible.
