    Description

We are Charo and Hector, an elderly, loving couple who are searching for someone to support us and share our lives in a lovely town by the sea in the south of Tenerife (Canary Islands).

Our apartment is in "El Puertito", Güímar. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, wide sitting room cum dining room with plenty of light, a small kitchen and 2 large terraces. We are just a 5 mins walk to a beautiful black sand beach.
We are well connected to local transport (5min to the bus stop that goes to the capital every half an hour), to shops, many restaurants and to walking trails along the lava park "Malpaís", closed to the sea.

I am 78, I come from Burgos, Spain mainland. I am very active, open minded and sociable. I practice yoga, tai chi, pilates and know a lot about plants, herbs and natural medicine. I am a retired Biology and Geography teacher.
I have taught Spanish and English to foreigners . I love to share what I know and learn with others. I have lived 38 years in Zimbabwe where I met my husband who is from Tenerife and we had three children.

Héctor is 90 years old and walks steadily but slowly. He is not as outgoing as I am. In fact, by now he is rather quiet. He needs help when going for walks and he needs company when I go to my activities.

Our youngest daughter and our son live in Plantamor, a community of young people from all over the world. Our daughter is the cocreator of that community, just 15min drive from us. They visit us often
and would be happy to connect you to this place of nature and sustainable, creative living.

I can teach you Spanish and English, share chats and knowledge about our natural vegetation. We will enjoy talking about our lives and journeys in Africa...

I will be glad to talk about the Spanish culture, paintings, monuments, music.

I can show you how to cook paella and typical dishes of the Canary Islands.

I would love to learn the culture of your country, including your especial dishes.

In your free time you can be part of Plantamor's activities (music events, fire circles, eco building workshops...) and enjoy young people's company and the beautiful nature they live in...

Travellers could learn about the local people and their rich culture. We would also like to learn about the country of our visitor.

In general we would need help in the mornings from 10-14h. We would prefer a woman with experience of caring for others. Depending on the need of each day, we would need support with house chores, assisting in the kitchen for preparing lunch...
I would be leaving for my activities 3 times a week so in that time I would appreciate the person who comes to simply be around, accompany Héctor, play some board games... He might not always want to, so it will be more about simply being in the house, making sure he's OK... or taking him for a short walk to the sea.

Once a week I usually go to visit our daughter and granddaughter in Plantamor, so, instead of you helping in the morning that day, you could accompany Héctor in the evening (16h-20h) We could agree which is the most suitable day for both of us.

N.B. WE ARE LOOKING FOR A SPANISH SPEAKING YOUNG WOMAN, because although my husband knows English very well, AT HIS AGE AND FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS, he is used to communicate only in SPANISH.

We can provide a bedroom that has a door to a beautiful balcony/terrace facing the sea and lava park. There you can sit and have a quiet place with access to internet.
You can have a bathroom for yourself (toilet, shower and bath)
I enjoy cooking and prepare tasty and healthy meals. We are flexitarian, mostly vegetarian but we do eat fish a lot and meat occasionally. We eat plenty of fruit and vegetables that we buy directly from the farmers at the weekly farmer´s market. Here we enjoy a variety of tropical fruits such as dragon fruit, carambolas, guavas, mangos and ,of course, bananas.
You can cook for yourself or we can cook together and share the meals with us.

There are plenty of things to do in the island, visiting Santa Cruz, La Laguna (University town and World Heritage City). The countryside is also very enjoyable, the nearby beaches are only a 10mins walk. I can advise you about the unique places in the island that you can visit, namely El Teide, the hightest volcanic peak in Spain, a World Heritage Site since 2007. I could recommend lovely little beaches in different parts of the island. Trips to the other Canary Islands are also very recommended.
A visit to La Palma by plane only takes half an hour and a journey by modern ferry is a wonderful experience. Once in La Palma you can visit the new volcano that erupted in September 2021 and was throwing up lava, gases and pyroclasts for 85 days... It just ended the week before Christimas, much to the joy of the local inhabitants who had suffered its bad effects all the time.

Visits to the other neighbouring islands : La Gomera, El Hierro, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are also easily available by plane or by ferry. On clear days we can see Grand Canaria from here. Las Palmas, its capital, like our capital Santa Cruz, are beautiful cities famous for their concerts and their carnival festivities.

We have sunny weather all the year round. Our winters are sunny, warm and mild, with some windy days.
