    Description

Hello, we are a Christian dutch family of 5 with a Leonberger (dog). Paul (35) the father works as a self employed carpenter, Harmke (32) is a full-time mom and does the administration of our little carpentry company. Amy Joy (4) is our oldest and Julia Grace (2) our middle one and the youngest is still enjoying herself in Harmkes belly.

We moved to Norway about 4 years ago to leave the "rat-race" and to find a more simple way of living with more time for each other with more rest, peace and nature. In the summers we like to go hiking and swimming in the crystal clear rivers and lakes. Later in the summer we are picking berries in the areas around the house and is our kitchen a little jam-factory;). Fall is fantastic around here with all its different colors and we can enjoy it even more because we are living in a relatively dry area of Norway. But it can not beat the winters with lots of snow what makes for a winter wonderland and we love to go out for sledding and playing in the snow!

We live in quite a remote area of Norway that is part of a small village called Dalen. We are renting a small farm on a mountain over 500 meters above sea level. The nature around here is breathtaking and even BBC has used this area in some of their nature documentaries.

The last years Harmke has been focussing on sourdough baking and gardening and growing vegetables and fruits. And if she can find the time she loves to study, read or draw. Paul has a passion for hunting, fishing and old crafts so there are often projects at our house with woodwork, leatherwork, making souvenirs (for selling in the tourist season) and other fun stuff.

    Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

To us its very important that we have some video-calls to get to know each other and be open and clear about expectations, we love straight forward honesty..

We can offer a warm family home for the time you will spend at our place with a healthy and pure lifestyle. You will have a bedroom in our house that will be your private place.

We have a good network of friend around us from all walks of life who love to get to know new people and spend time with them. So spending time with other people skiing or doing other outdoor stuff is possible to arrange (if there is still enough snow naturally)

If you speak Norwegian we can practice our Norwegian and teach you Dutch. If you speak Dutch you can lean Norwegian if you want..

Harmke can teach you all about sourdough baking, not only bread but many other stuff.

If you want to learn about the bible and Christian life, we are always happy to talk about that;)

Most important you can speak Dutch or Norwegian!!
(our girls need to be able to communicate with you)

We are preferably looking for a woman who likes to join our family life in the time leading up to the birth of our third child (expected in April) and is willing to stay with our girls in the 2/3 days that we will be in the hospital. We are thinking about Monday -Friday about 2/3 hours a day help in and around the house. This might be reading/playing/baking with the girls, but also cleaning/cooking/doing laundry etc. In addition we would expect you to carry your own weight (for example helping sometimes with cooking if its not your turn and cleaning up your own mess;).

We are looking for a person who can spend an evening reading or enjoying time by herself but also likes to have serious conversations or play a board game. Who is willing to build up a relationship with our girls and likes to spend time with them without counting exact hours. Is not afraid of a big but very sweet dog (outside dog) and understands the needs of a (by then) heavily pregnant woman.

You will stay in our house and will have a decent size bedroom that will be your private place. We have no problems what so ever with vegetarians, but we do eat meat and fish. (so you might have to cook for yourself on some days). We keep our refrigerator well stocked and you can always eat with us, but if you have special wishes regarding food you can buy them yourself at the grocery store.
