    Description

Hi there ! We are two friends who chose to leave the city and come live in nature. Appropriately, we live in the least populated area of Spain, in Extremadura right on the border with Portugal’s beautiful, wild, untouched natural park of Serra de São Mamede.

Together we are running a small farm where we take care of the land and the animals we live with.

    Our pack consists of:

2 humans, Nelie -Dutchie- and Victoria -French-
3 horses, Phantom the well trained Spaniard, Comanche, our big handsome clumsy boy, Leyenda, the retiree mare (and Phantom’s girlfriend)
4 cats, Batman and Freek, who also happily gave up city life and travelled all the way from the Netherlands to Spain with Nelie
Mathias the bobcat -nickname owned to his short tail-, probably the cuddliest, clingiest cat you’ve ever met
Niña, rescued last summer when she was just a peanut and now grown to be a most devilish little panther
2 dogs, Max and Maya, son and mom, our livestock guardians and our best friends

We life in a 11ha slice of paradise. It is big, a fair amount of work which we love and manage on our own but with you we hope it will be more fun, easier and the beginning of a new adventure for us! We do not make money from the farm yet. It's really only the beginning.

We’re really happy to share our life and moments with you, music, laughter but also, here you can learn languages, a fair bit about living a natural life and we can learn together from each other's experiences!

More pragmatically, you can learn about natural cooking, fermenting, bread making with me (Victoria) and you can learn about geopolitics, and everything about dogs and horses with Nelie.

We are also very keen on learning from you!

We are looking for male volunteers. With us two, there is plenty of female energy here and we need a man of the house. No joke. Please come and be the handyman. We are both pretty handy and have been running this place for a while but for some jobs, we need a dude. Or two. Particularly someone at ease and happy with woodworking, building, giving a hand with heavy lifting, etc.

Ideally you’d be an all arounder, proactive, independent guy with a can-do attitude, who is happy to work with us as well as on their own. Massive plus if you're an experienced rider and animal lover.

There are several ongoing projects at the moment including, clearing land, preparing firewood, woodwork on the horse arena, building a chicken house and coop, helping in our first year’s veggie garden as well as odd jobs around the house, like making shelves, painting.

5h/day, 5 days per week, for us all

You have your own bedroom in the house. There is a double bed. We share the bathroom and kitchen. We feed you.

We don’t have a fixed schedule so we will see what flow we can create with you. We can cook, you can cook if you like to.

So that you get an idea, nowadays our rhythm is, we wake up early, Nelie usually up for sunrise with the dogs and I join them soon after, morning we potter around, have a super green juice from our oranges as well as all the foraged greens, breakfast, then we work outside, Nelie in the veggie patch and I prune the olive trees, some days together, some days we do our own thing, we always eat together. Evening we cook, listen to music, learn online, knit, stretch, chat, by the fireplace. The animals come in and out.

I'm vegetarian, Nelie isn't. Both welcome here.

If you are travelling with a van or camper, there’s plenty of space for you to park and we can share food !

  • What else ...

    What else ...

In your time off, we can hang out if you aren't tired of us, there are lovely markets and all kinds of events in the local scene that we're happy to go to with you or to recommend you to.

There's a mighty, glorious, wonderful waterfall to visit and swim in within walking distance. Horses who want to go out with you.

We have good internet and signal here! You can work in the kitchen, it is the area we use when we need to be "in the office".

    Space for parking camper vans

You can park your van or camper here, just know that the track to get here has scared people away in the past and that for a long base, heavy camper it may not be appropriate. Small vans, 4x4 kitted campers, all good.

If you are travelling with a dog friend, there is space for them too in the pack! We have a fairly big area around the house that is fenced. Max and Maya usually work at night, guarding, and nap during the day then slowly wake up and play in the late afternoon before their nightshift. Better if your dog can behave around cats, otherwise, Max will tell them off as it is his privilege to boss them around.
