Description
We're a resort on Moyo Island looking for a helping hand.
At the moment (November-December), we're in the process of building a new house and are looking for volunteers willing to help out with this project. It includes a lot of lifting materials (mainly wood), preparing the wood (sanding, etc), and putting the structure together. It's a big bonus if you have any experience in this department or if you just know your way around electric tools, don't mind getting sweaty, and working with your hands.
Generally, we need help with various tasks including gardening, DIY projects, general maintenance, renovation projects, etc. We're hoping to do a mural on one of the walls near the dive shop area, so if you have any experience in that department, please let us know. A lot of the work we need help with includes some sort of physical help, but any help with creating social media content (explore the island and document it) is greatly appreciated as well. Furthermore, you can help out with different conservation projects like planting trees to mitigate coastal erosion, protecting turtle eggs, coral conservation, and so forth. Though the resort is open for guests all year with our busy season being June - September, you will not be expected to help out with customers.
Moyo Island is quite remote, and the resort is located right on the beach nestled in between the jungle offering a quiet and relaxing environment. You won't find bars, supermarkets, or lots of tourists on the island, but there's endless beautiful nature to explore. Moyo is surrounded by beautiful coral reefs with lots of marine diversity. If you want to do a scuba diving course, you can get certified with us (PADI). There's lots of wildlife on the island, you can explore and hike through the jungle, enjoy the waterfalls, visit bat caves, or just take in the peaceful atmosphere. We arrange an array of tours for our guests, and depending on availability, it's possible to join some of these tours for an additional cost. We do have Wi-Fi and you can get 4G signal if you have a Telkomsel sim card, but as the location is remote, the quality of the connection can fluctuate.
We're Andrew, 29 years old, and Anne, 27 years old. When we're not busy, we enjoy spending time in nature, scuba diving, and putting our energy towards conservation projects. We have a cat, Meow, a dog, Dotty, and currently, a rescued deer, Frankie. We try to respond to everybody as quickly as we can but with an internet connection that fluctuates and being busy, please be patient with us if we don't respond immediately.
In return for your help, we can offer:
- Free dorm accommodation with shared bathroom and shower. You might have it all to yourself if we don't have any other Workawayers or hostel guests here.
- Free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most of the time, someone will be cooking for you, but sometimes you'll have to cook yourself.
- Free snorkelling equipment
