  Description

  Hello! I’m Renato, a 54-year-old Brazilian from São Paulo. I’ve worked as a freelancer since I was 16, starting as a set technician supporting an architect with the design and construction of sets for events, fashion shows, concerts, and theater productions. Around the same time, I began working as a high-access specialist (rigger/industrial climber) on structures like gymnasiums, antennas, and smokestacks. I spent over 20 years in this field, alongside other experiences as a salesperson, snack bar manager, valet, photographer, hiking guide, and boat captain for fishing, diving, and leisure tours along the São Paulo coast.
  Whenever I had spare money, I invested it in socio-environmental, ecological, and sports activities, as well as volunteering.
  Creating things, improvising solutions, and rigging up makeshift devices or contraptions were all part of my set-building work and adventures—activities that have brought me joy since childhood.
  After completing some personal construction projects and expeditions, and taking a course on conservation area management (Ranger training), I began designing and installing public-use infrastructure—such as visitor facilities—for nature and adventure parks. I also conducted training courses for park guides and maintenance teams.
  I have deepened my knowledge through specialized short courses in environmental studies, engineering, and impact reduction, striving to apply circular, holistic, and integrated concepts and techniques. I did not attend university.
  I also completed a three-year volunteer internship with the São Paulo Forestry Institute (PESM), focusing on planning and executing three canyoning expeditions (1999–2001) along the main river drainages of the Serra do Mar escarpment. At the Curucutu Unit in São Paulo (where each stint involved a 7-to-10-day journey by water), my work included data collection at waterfalls and monitoring trails and illegal camps. Daily activities during the internship involved enforcement, research support, resource management, public service, and unit maintenance.

  That is how I’ve spent forty-odd years of professional activity and study on this planet.
  
  I acquired this land over ten years ago. My initial goal was to provide a yard with actual earth for my dear friend "Odin." He was a big, friendly, strong mixed-breed dog—looking like a Pitbull but with the happy, amiable nature of a Labrador and the coat of a Golden Retriever, complete with white paws and a white chest. He was a "grown man" (fully adult) of about three, with the apparent behavior of a dog raised in an apartment and used to the freedom of hopping onto the sofa. It was a major challenge for both of us, but a joy to share so many experiences and hurdles together.
  Over time, he understood that following instructions meant he could walk off-leash through the streets of São Paulo, on beaches, and in forests.
  He had been found on a street in São Paulo by others, resting in the shade of a tree next to a sign that read "My name is Odin." My mother adopted him after hearing his story at the hair salon. Shortly after, she handed over guardianship to me—along with the expenses and the responsibility of adapting to this new lifestyle. After a few misunderstandings and escape attempts, we became great friends and travel companions, sharing many joyful moments.
  With this land for him, and the support of a neighbor and her children, I could rest a little easier leaving dear Odin behind to attend to clients and professional demands.
  
  That is all in the past now—part of the "backpack" of experiences that helps me evaluate and understand the present and consider the future...

  I have participated in volunteer work since I was young. Most of them were nature-oriented, took place in public areas, and involved groups of friends and acquaintances.
  
  But this "Workaway" model—hosting "strangers" in one's home and exchanging full accommodation for work hours via a "digital" platform—is very different! It is still a "novelty" currently in the testing phase.
  It has been a little over two years since I signed up as a potential Workaway host, and a shorter time since I had to leave my space in the big city and officially relocate. Amidst so many other changes and consequences experienced during this same period... I suppose I lacked the courage, the means, or the peace of mind to commit to hosting "volunteers" here.
  
  The cabin was handmade using wood and various reclaimed materials—including the doors, latches, furniture, and windows. Everything is simple, with minimal comforts and ambient temperatures, yet it is full of unique details.
  
  I planted both native and exotic species and let "wild" vegetation grow over the grass, as this fosters native biodiversity and provides food for crickets, bees, and birds; consequently, the yard looks "messy" and unconventional by standard aesthetic norms. A pond was built to support the frogs that inhabited the land and surrounding area before I moved in.
  
  Today, I live alone with a few frogs, some house geckos, and—just a few days ago—a macaw...
  
  A "beautiful and harmless" spider (from where?) has built its web under the kitchen ceiling and over the sink—a "natural, free biological mosquito control that works without batteries"—occupying about 30 square centimeters of the house.
  Note: If you have a phobia of spiders or consider them dirty creatures... this might not be the right time for you to visit—or, conversely, it might be the perfect moment to overcome that phobia or any prejudices against a living being unlike any other in the universe known to humanity.
  
  Daily visitors include birds, while the night brings opossums, owls, and bats... "Human" family and friends rarely show up. My dear "grandson," however, likes to come and spend a few days here. Right now, the house and my full attention are dedicated to this distinguished little fellow. I learn so much from him and join him in his explorations and discoveries of this new world of his!

  Quando sobrava dinheiro eu investia em atividades socioambientais, ecológicas, esportivas e voluntariado..
  Criar, improvisar soluções, gambiarras /traquitanas fazia parte do trabalho cenográfico, das aventuras, e é um prazer que me diverte dês de a infância.
  Após algumas construções e expedições pessoais/particulares e um curso de Administração de unidades de conservação / "Ranger". Comecei a trabalhar com projetos e implantação de estruturas para uso publico "visitação turística" em parques naturais e de aventuras e consecutivamente ministrava cursos para monitores e equipes de manutenção da unidades.
  Aprofundei os estudos "cursos livres" nas áreas de meio ambiente, engenharia, redução de impacto e procuro seguir conceitos e técnicas, circulares, holísticas, integradas ....Não cursei universidade/faculdades.
  participei por 3 anos de um estagio voluntario para o instituto florestal de São Paulo/PESM. Tema do estudo: planejar e executar 3 expedições de canyoning (1999 a 2001) pelas principais vertentes "rios" na escarpa da serra do mar. Núcleo Curucutu SP, (cada uma entre 7 a 10 dias de jornada pela agua) inclui, coleta de dados de cachoeira, trilhas e ranchos ilegais As atividades cotidianas no estagio eram para a fiscalização, apoio a pesquisa, manejo, atendimento publico e manutenção da unidade.

  Assim foram 40 e tantos anos de atividades profissional e estudos neste planeta.
  
  Adquiri este terreno a mais de 10 anos. Com o proposito inicial de oferecer um quintal com terra, para meu querido amigo "Odin". Um peludo, simpático e forte cachorro vira-lata, com cara de pitbull e um jeito amigável e feliz de labrador com pelagem de Golden de patas e peito branco. Um "rapas" (maior de idade) com uns 3 anos e aparente comportamento de quem foi criado em um apartamento e com liberdade para subir no sofá. Foi um grande desafio para ambos e uma alegria convivermos tantas experiencias e desafios juntos.
  Com o tempo compreendeu que atender as orientações representava a sua liberdade para caminhar sem guia/coleira pelas ruas de sp, praias e florestas.
  Este cachorro foi encontrado na rua de sp "por terceiros" sob a sombra de uma arvore e junto de uma placa informando (meu nome é Odin) . Minha mãe o adotou após ver ouvir a historia dele no salão da cabelereira. Logo na sequencia me passou a tutoria do bicho, junto com as despesas e responsabilidade de nos adaptarmos ao novo modo de vida. após alguns mal entendidos e fugas nos tornamos ótimos amigos, parceiros de viagens e muitas alegrias.
  Com este terreno para ele e o apoio da vizinha e suas crianças. pude estar um pouco mais tranquilo para deixar o querido Odin e atender os clientes e as demandas profissionais,
  
  Tudo passado, que tenho na mochila e ajuda avaliar e compreender o presente e ponderar futuro..

  Participei de ações voluntarias dês de jovem. A maioria em pró da natureza, em áreas publicas e envolvia grupo de amigos e conhecidos.
  
  Agora. Este modelo ,workaway, para receber pessoas "desconhecidas" em casa e com a proposta de trocar de hospedagem completa por jornadas de trabalho e por intermédio de uma plataforma "digital" é muito diferente! E ainda é uma "novidade" em época de testes.
  Faz pouco mais de 2 anos que me inscrevi como possível anfitrião workaway. e faz menos tempo que tive que deixar o espaço que havia na metrópole e mudar oficialmente de cidade. Entre Outras tantas alterações e consequências vividas neste mesmo período ... Assim acho que me faltou coragem, possibilidade ou paz para assumir compromisso com pessoas "voluntarias" para estadias aqui.
  
  A cabana foi feita a mão com madeiras e diversos materiais de reuso, inclusive as portas, trincos, moveis, janelas... Tudo simples, pouco conforto, temperatura ambiente e por outro lado cheia de detalhes.
  
  plantei espécies nativas e exóticas e deixo mato "silvestre" crescer por cima da grama pois isso favorece a diversidade nativa e gera alimentos para os grilos, abelhas, pássaros, consecutivamente fica um quintal "descabelado" fora do padrão de beleza convencional. Um lago foi construído para favorecer os sapos que existem no terreno e arredores antes de minha ocupação.
  
  Hoje moro sozinho com uns 3 sapos, lagartixas e a pouco dias uma aranha (de onde?) "linda e inofensiva" construiu sua teia sob o teto da cozinha e sobre a pia. ("controle biológico natural contra mosquitos. gratuito e funciona sem baterias" ) ocupa aproximados 30centimetros quadrados da casa.
  Obs. caso você tenha fobia de aranha ou considera um ser sujo... talvez este não seja o momento adequado para você vir nos visitar ou exatamente o contrario e este seja o momento para superar a fobia ou eventual preconceitos sobre este ser vivo que provavelmente não exista similar em todo o universo conhecido pela humanidade.
  
  Os visitantes diários são os pássaros e a noite gambas, corujas, morcegos... A família e os amigos "humanos" pouco aparecem. O querido" netinho", gosta de e vir passar uns dias aqui. E neste momento a casa e dedicação integral é direcionada para este ilustre rapazinho. Aprendo muito com ele e o acompanho em suas explorações e descobertas neste novo mundo dele!

  Your help would be welcome in various areas and activities, provided your intentions are sincere and positive.
  Basic, day-to-day household support—such as cooking, general maintenance, cleaning, organizing, and gardening—is a huge help and frees up more time for me to focus on the construction work.
  
  Construction-related tasks involving technical knowledge, machinery, heavy physical effort, or safety risks are generally discouraged or restricted by the Workaway platform for volunteers. "Assisting" with these tasks might be welcome, but it depends on the volunteer having some basic knowledge.
  
  As for tasks involving the internet, photography, or video—I’m not sure I’m interested in dealing with that right now. I feel it requires a level of continuity, purpose, and goal-setting. That said, I am open to considering your ideas and the possibilities.
  
  It would be a pleasure to "try" communicating in English, Spanish, or other Romance languages; gestures and hand signals can help, too.
  I have basic knowledge but don't practice much, even though I enjoy it. At the moment, I’m not looking to offer daily theory lessons as part of the exchange.
  
  Activities vary depending on the weather, urgent priorities or emergencies, the local availability of materials, and the time of year you plan to stay.
  
  Given the small size of the house and property, combined with the activities restricted by the platform, it might be tricky to fill five hours a day with volunteer tasks. However, I believe this can be tailored to the individual, and I’ll have a better idea of ​​how to assess this after a few experiences.
  
  Right now, there is no set routine or fixed schedule for volunteers here. I believe that by working together—and taking into account your skills, interests, and the timing of your stay—we can find an arrangement that works for everyone.
  
  The kitchen—including the menu, meal preparation, hygiene, cleaning, and organization—is a matter of concern for me; I consider it very important that we have a clear understanding regarding this before finalizing your stay. I suppose we need to determine whether activities related to meals and shared spaces count as working hours or simply as shared, communal activities.   Sua ajuda pode ser bem vinda em vários aspectos e atividades. Des de que a sua intenção seja sincera e positiva .
  O apoio básico e cotidiano para lidar com o lar, em atividades de culinária, manutenção geral, limpeza, organização, jardinagem... já é grande colaboração e pode me liberar mais tempo para me dedicar as obras...
  
  Atividades ligadas as construções, que envolvem conhecimento técnico, maquinas, esforços e riscos... são desaconselhadas e ou impeditivas pela plataforma workaway voluntários. O apoio "auxiliar" nestas atividades pode ser bem vindo mas depende de um conhecimento básico do voluntario.
  
  Trabalhos com internet, fotos, vídeos... tenho duvidas se hoje tenho interesse em mexer com isso. Acho que envolve uma continuidade e propósitos, objetivos... De qualquer modo estou aberto e disposto de avaliar a sua ideia e possibilidades.

  Acredito que isso também se resolva em nossa conversa e modelo de troca e atividades que iremos escolher para sua estadia.

  Accommodation

  Visitor accommodation consists of a simple, private room with a bathroom and a hot-water shower.
  The room is located at the back of the neighboring property, but access and exclusive use are reserved for visitors via the path through my own property.
  The room is about 15 meters away from the main house/cabin kitchen; the path is unlit and consists of dirt (or mud when it rains) and vegetation.
  One wall shares a boundary with the neighbor's bedroom, so please be mindful of noise levels at night.
  
  The room has a bunk bed (currently, only one bed is available for use; the other is occupied by stored items).
  The wardrobe has space for your luggage.
  Books are available for you to read.
  
  The yard features a compost area, a fire pit, a cold-water outdoor shower, space for a tent, and a basement with a green roof... though it can sometimes be quite messy.
  The property sits atop a residential hill with a view of the sunset; the climate is cooler and more humid than in the city center.
  Local businesses close around 5:00 PM, and bars/snack shops close around 10:00 PM.
  
  The kitchen and living room are shared spaces. However, I lock up at night and on other occasions when either you or I go out.
  I’m open to suggestions on how we should organize and share the space and communal tasks—please feel free to make suggestions!
  
  Power and internet outages are common in the village during strong winds and heavy rain.
  Direct mobile signal from cell towers is weak and varies by carrier.
  
  The location is: Taiaçupeba District, Municipality of Mogi das Cruzes, SP.
  Please do some research beforehand regarding the village, population, attractions, access, and neighborhood. There are many places that are more attractive, beautiful, and better equipped for tourism than this one.
  
  The village is located 30 km from the city of Mogi das Cruzes, SP. It takes approximately 50 minutes by "public" bus—specifically the line connecting this village to the "Estudantes" urban train station, which links the city of Mogi to São Paulo.
  
  There are about 10 buses a day running from the village to the city, with fewer trips on weekends; the bus stop is located about 50 meters from the house.
  There are neighbors who provide "taxi/Uber-style" transport services to the city of Mogi and other nearby locations.

  A acomodação para os visitantes é em um quarto simples, privativo com banheiro e chuveiro de agua quente.
  O quarto fica nos fundos do terreno da casa vizinha, mas o acesso e uso exclusivo aos visitantes pelo terreno aqui de casa..
  O quarto esta a uns 15 metros de distancia até a cozinha da casa/cabana isso por uma trilha sem iluminação com plantas ,terra "ou lama quando chove".
  A parede faz divisa com o quarto da casa vizinha e isso implica em atenção ao silencio no período noturno.
  
  O quarto tem cama beliche. "hoje apenas uma cama livre" a outra esta com coisas.
  O guarda roupas tem espaço para sua bagagem.
  Os livros são disponível para leitura.
  
  No quintal existe composto, local pra fogueira, ducha fria, espaço para barraca, porão com teto verde..... as vezes esta uma grande bagunça..
  
  O terreno fica no alto de um moro residencial com vista para o poente. o clima é mais frio e úmido do que a cidade.
  As atividade comerciais encerram por volta das 17 e os bares e lanchonetes por volta das 22 horas.
  
  A cozinha e sala é para o uso compartilhado. Mas fecho no período noturno e em outras "eventuais" situações que você vá passear ou eu.
  Tenho duvidas de como organizarmos/compartilharmos o espaço e atividades de bem comum. Sugira!
  
  É frequente a falta de energia elétrica/internet na vila com ventania e chuvas fortes.
  O sinal de celular direto com as antenas repetidora é fraco e varia de operadora.
  
  O local aqui é: Distrito de Taiaçupeba, município de Mogi das cruzes, SP.
  Faça sua pesquisa previa sobre a vila, população, atrativos, acessos, vizinhança... Existem muitos locais mais atrativos, belos, e preparados para receber bem o turismo do que aqui.
  
  A vila esta a 30 km da cidade de Mogi das Cruzes SP. aproximados 50 minutos de ônibus "publico" linha que liga esta vila até a estação "estudantes" de trens urbanos e que conecta a cidade Mogi com a cidade de São Paulo.
  
  Horário de ônibus da vila para a cidade são uns 10 por dia e reduz nos finais de semana. o ponto de ônibus esta a uns 50 metros da casa.
  Existem vizinhos que fazem serviços transporte "taxi/uber" até a cidade de Mogi e ou a outros pontos do entorno..

  The main tourist attraction, located 8 km away, is a nature park featuring a river, visitor facilities, camping areas, hiking trails, and an ocean-view lookout; reservations and an entrance fee are required.
  Hikes ranging from 6 to 15 km offer access to a reservoir, a quarry about 20 meters high, distant horizon views, fishing spots, a golf club, and inns; most of the roads are unpaved, lined with forests and rural properties.
  
  The village has a pharmacy, a bakery, a market, and a pizzeria, as well as bars, snack bars, and small shops; everything closes between 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

  O principal passeio turísticos esta a 8km é um parque natural com rio, estrutura de visitação turística, camping, trilhas mirante com vista para o mar. Precisa agendar e pagar ingresso.
  em caminhadas de 6 a 15 km tem acesso a represa, pedreira de uns 20mtros de altura e vista paro horizonte distante, pesqueiros, club de golf, pousadas e a maioria das estradas são de terra com floresta e sítios nas margens.
  
  Na vila existe uma farmácia, uma padaria, um mercado uma pizzaria, e os bares, lanchonetes, lojinhas e tudo fecha entre as 18 e 22 horas.
