Hi there! My name is Julia and I am a 24-year-old American girl from Cincinnati, Ohio. When I am home, I work in nightlife hospitality. I enjoy this area of work because it allows me the freedom to travel and come and go as I please. When I am not working I enjoy hiking, going to the gym to lift weights, being outdoors, listening to music and going to concerts. I am also an artist, recently working with oil paints but I have been drawing and painting my whole life :)

I had my first workaway experience in September of 2022 when I volunteered for 3 weeks in the countryside in Ireland. I completed my second volunteer stay just a few months later in the Andean region of Peru. I found both experiences to be life-changing (as well as the experiences I had solo traveling in between volunteering!). After I returned from Peru, I moved across the US by myself to begin a new job in Social Work, specifically behavioral health case management. I quickly found myself miserable at my job and wanting so much more out of life - desperately missing the freedom of traveling and gaining new knowledge and experiences out in the world. So, I left that job and returned to restaurant management where I knew I would be able to save money more efficiently and be happier in my work-life balance. I traveled again from June-November of last year and again for three months this past spring, had more amazing experiences with workaway that reminded me why I love this platform and lifestyle so much. I met many amazing people, had many amazing experiences, and I am excited to continue this journey with more adventures!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I have about 4 years of customer service/hospitality experience - over a year and a half of those being in management. Throughout my childhood and previous volunteer experiences I have gained some gardening and farming knowledge (I worked with an irrigation crop in Peru for the first time). I used to babysit/childmind frequently as a young teen and did some assistant teaching at my primary school while in college. I have my degree in Criminal Justice and worked for a year in Pretrial Services at my county jail back in Ohio. This combined with my experiences in behavioral health has provided me with a good amount of experience dealing with mental health, crises, and other trauma-related situations. Through workaway I have learned many new skills that I would likely not have had otherwise. I have worked on building projects, worked in gardens, done housekeeping, childminding, cooking, etc.

I am a good communicator and find myself to be a natural leader. I am easily adaptable to my surroundings and love to learn new skills. I have many other "random" skills, I can cook as needed (used to be a kitchen manager at my restaurant), clean, organize, etc. Really, whatever you need from me - I will find a way to make it happen!
