Beschreibung

Hi there, we are Tobi (32) and Mara (28), a german couple with passion for travelling and the outdoors. We will be spending the next year in Canada, hoping to explore the country, meet new people and enjoying its beautiful nature. We love being outside, staying active and discovering new landscapes. We are both hands-on and practical and love animals. We are both family-oriented and grew up on the country side with younger siblings. The last ten years we have lived in shared apartments and on our own, so we are very comfortable managing a household independently. We are open-minded and curious and have already traveled to many countries, some of which we lived in for short periods for studying, working or volunteering. Getting to know new people, cultures and ways of life are a very important part of traveling for us and one of our main motivations for this journey. Tobi is a trained mechatronics technician and chemist and brings strong technical skills, while Mara is a studied biologist, with a love for the nature. Grown up with horses, dogs and cats, she feels very comfortable working with and caring for animals.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

We are both hands-on, hardworking and not afraid to get our hands dirty. We are happy to help with a wide range of tasks, including gardening, DIY projects, farm work and household duties.
With lots of passion for the outdoors, we tried to spend as much time as possible in the mountains the last couple of years while studying in the city. We are very self organised and reliable and have both a lot of experience in working in a team. We like to do things by ourselves and to get creative, for example: during COVID we converted an old van into a camper and enjoyed a lot of trips through Europe with it so far. Another time we needed a dining table so we bought some wood and build it by ourselves from scratch and it turned our pretty good (not perfect but we love it) we would say 😉
We both grew up on the country side, Mara with lots of animals around, dogs, cats, rabbits and a horse, enjoying their company but also learning early the responsibilities which come with taking care of animals. She feels very comfortable working with and caring for animals.

Tobi grew up in a big house and with a father who fixed a lot by himself and Tobis help, he is in general very handy and has a good craftsmanship and manual knowledge, which he shared with Mara over the years. After school, Tobi has completed an apprenticeship as a mechatronics technician before starting his chemistry studies, providing him with a good knowledge about maintaining machines and electrical wiring. The last two years, Tobi was working and living in a small town in Switzerland, surrounded by high mountains, perfect for his hobbies including hiking, mountaineering, back country skiing and climbing. Working with international clients and in a customer focused role, he gained lots of experience in clear communication, flexibility and problem-solving.

Mara studied biology and was lucky enough to do an internship last summer in a german national park in the alps, where she worked in environmental education with both kids and adults. She enjoyed spending the whole workday outdoors, hiking with school groups and providing information for hikers and tourists about the national park, the nature and the relationships between different species and its importance. During her studies and until last month she was working in a local climbing gym, gaining valuable customer service, hospitality experience and team work skills.

Mara is very open-minded and communicative. Her hobbies include hiking, climbing, skiing as well as horse riding. Her family always had horses, so she was put in a saddle before she could even walk. As a child, she grew up with one horse, Quintus, who is now 25 years old, but still really fit and enyoing his older days. Through caring for him, she gained solid hands-on experience in daily care, handling and riding. She is a confident rider with experience in jumping and trail riding in open terrain.
Being Mara’s boyfriend for quite some time now, Tobi has also gained basic skills in horse handling, feels comfortable around horses and has some riding experience as well.

We both lived in shared flats during our studies and enjoyed the company of flatmates, hanging out together, sharing a meal and conversations in the kitchen in the evening. We know how to clean, cook and wash and we know how important it is to have clean common areas so that everybody feels comfortable.

We are friendly, outgoing persons, who feel comfortable around other people. We are fluent in English, have each a drivers licence and are physically fit. Used to snow in winter and heat in summer, we can cope with harsh weather conditions.

We are looking forward to a year full of adventures, meeting a lot of new people and learning about their lifestyle, culture and work.
