Hi! My name is Erin James, I am a 28-year-old woman from England, with a passion for creativity, animals, media, activism and sustainable living. I am a hard-working, down to earth and free-spirited person. I enjoy meeting new people, learning about different cultures, trying new experiences and making connections with the people and places around me. I have been a little stagnant recently and am taking the leap and facing the fear of opening up my world and exploring what life has to offer!

I am lucky enough to have a wide mixture of skills, (photography, social media management, event management, graphic design, multi-disciplinary art practices, workshop facilitation and performance art) so I'm hoping I can be of help in many different ways to the hosts I may stay with. I love skill-swapping and learning new things from different people. I would also love to improve my skills in gardening, sustainable living and animal care and stay somewhere a little longer to truly explore this beautiful work.

I speak Spanish, although not yet fluently, so have a real interest in the country as well as other Spanish - speaking countries. I have been visiting Spain (Cabo de Gato) since I was 2 years old.

I am respectful of other people's spaces and lifestyles and hope I can fit into whatever Workaways I may participate in. I am here for new experiences and to feed my soul, as I love travelling and want to explore things outside of my normal life in the UK.

You will find a down to earth, respectful, outgoing and warm person in me I hope!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I am lucky enough to have trained myself and been trained in multiple areas, leaving me with strong skills in Graphic Design, Journalism, Photography, Videography, Copywriting, Social Media Management, Multi-Media Art, Djing, Radio Presenting, and Interviewing. I have worked as a Photographer, Videographer, Radio Host, Social Media Manager, and Creative Consultant for a number of clients. I started my freelance career at age 19 and am still successfully working for myself. I feel I am a strong candidate for many jobs due to my all-rounded experience in many different creative fields and roles, from curator to team leader to participant. At the moment my career has moved towards workshop falicitation, teaching art & activism practices, guest lecturing and poetry research. I am really passionate about teaching art practices for the benefit of mental health and using art as a tool of activism.

Event Management

I have run a number of my own events, from live music gigs to club nights to art Q&A's. I have good skills in organisation, booking, ordering and managing things both leading up to the event and on the night, and I am confident I can successfully run a good event.

Bartending

I have 7 years of hospitality and bar experience, from normal bartending jobs to working as a cocktail waitress, to working at 5-star events and festivals. I have strong skills in making drinks, interacting with customers, working quickly, cleanly, and efficiently. I have worked at a number of different events, venues and spaces and am comfortable in different types of bar work in different places.

Waitressing

I have also got 7 years of waitressing experience, from small cafes to larger venues. I thrive off of interacting with customers and making their day and making them remember their visit for the best reasons. I am confident in my delivery and ability to waitress and to do it quickly and smoothly.

Managing

I have been in many managing roles, from shift leader to supervisor, to Assistant Manager, giving me great skills in leading a team, setting a good example, and making sure everyone is working to the best of their ability. This has also given me great skills in crisis management, as I have had to deal with a number of difficult and high-stress situations, and have learnt how to handle and resolve them calmly and correctly.

DJing

I have been DJing and doing Radio Hosting for the past 2 years in England, where I have a few shows on a local radio station. This has given me great experience with public speaking, DJing and mixing tracks, providing good vibes on a night out, and creating playlists for different events.

Photography

I am a professional photographer, having worked for a number of clients in the UK, including my town's official council. I am confident in my skills to deliver excellent, memorable, and unique photos for any and all events. I have photographed weddings, club nights, birthdays, council events, conference events, music events and more. This is one of my best skills.

Videography

I am also able to produce strong video content. I have worked on a number of jobs for clients where I have produced music videos, live sessions, promotional videos, trailers, event recap videos and more. While photography is my main area of passion and my strongest skill, videography follows as a close second and it is something I love to do.


Social Media Management

I have done freelance social media work for a number of businesses and clients such as coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, musicians and even choirs. I am well skilled in social media strategies, content plans, producing content, social media algorithms, paid promotion, hashtags, online event promotion. I have grown social media accounts at a steady and impressive rate in the past and I am confident I can do this for most businesses and people.

Writing / Copy writing

Having made and founded my own magazine, 'Tough Cookie Mag' and written for a number of other organisations and businesses, I have strong skills in writing / copy-writing. Whether it's a review, an article, a write up for a new business, social media writing, website content, journalistic pieces, I am confident in my writing skills. I am very creative, so can adopt my practices to fit both fiction and non-fiction jobs. I can write long, more investigative and formal pieces, or eye-catching and snappy short deliverables, more for social media and websites.

My hobbies include:

Anything nature related, connecting to things outside and learning about the land.

Connecting and caring for animals - this is something that really fulfills me and something I can see myself doing for a long time.

Making documentaries and short films about my experiences and journeys in life, as well as photographing for the same reasons.

Activism! Using my art to make a change to the world

I am recently finding my spiritual and ancestral practices a big part of my life and welcome this connection wherever I can

I love cooking and I would like to think I am quite good. My mum is a professional chef and has installed this passion into me. I love to learn about ingredients local to where I'm staying and cook local dishes

I am passionate about social justice issues and like to base a lot of my work and practices around trying to make a change to injustices, however small that change may be. Mainly I do this from a creative lens and encourage and help others to do this where I can, particularly children / young people.
