Hi!

My name is Arika. I am 23 years old and graduated college just over a year ago. For the past year I had a wonderful full time volunteer position on a farm and food hub managing a mobile market and farm to school program. I am now in Aotearoa/New Zealand for a year on a working holiday visa to continue exploring, volunteering, and having new experiences.

A little about me:
I love being outdoors, biking, hiking, and gardening. I have experience in farming and childcare and love both. I am also an animal lover and am always learning new things. I was an anthropology major and exploring new places and cultures in a meaningful and respectful way is really important to me and a big part of what I want to do with the next part of my life.

I am an incredibly hard worker and can accomplish pretty much any task quickly and independently. I am looking for opportunities to build community and engage in meaningful work as I explore. Ideally I am also looking for positions that allow me to maintain my current connections in Auckland.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Farming/ Gardening:

I have experience working as a farm hand as well as maintaining my own garden. I love being outside and getting dirty working in the soil and am always excited to learn more about growing new crops particularly native species!

I also have experience caring for farm animals including chicken, sheep, goats, and pigs and am comfortable with regular feeding and maintenance of their pens.

For the past year I have been working in a farm environment with a fair amount of physical labor and am fit and able to take on most farm tasks.

Childcare / Home:

I have been babysitting and nannying for 10 years and love caring for children. I have experience with ages 3 months - 13 years including working with children with ADHD. With younger kids I love spending time outside exploring, reading, and playing pretend. With older kids I have experience helping with homework, organizing extracurricular activities, and encouraging continued growth in their interests.

I have 4 years of experience working as a classroom aide in a Kindergarten setting (age 5-6) including providing 1-1 and small group reading and math support and love helping children learn to master and feel confident in these fundamental skills. I also healed the role of “sports” (physical education) teacher for a year at the Kindergarten where I independently designed a sports curriculum based on state standards and taught the students weekly in an outdoor setting.

As the eldest sibling I also have had the opportunity to teach my (much) younger siblings a lot of fun outdoor activities such as biking, swimming, and skiing and would love to share this experience with more children as well!

I am naturally a very organized and clean person. I enjoy helping maintain a clean and organized home environment and am able to provide, cleaning, laundry, and cooking help. I also have specific experience supporting building organization systems that work for children with ADHD to help maintain organized spaces.

One note for cooking is I have been a vegetarian most of my life and have only recently also began eating fish. I feel confident preparing vegetarian meals of all kinds and am gaining confidence with fish but may require more guidance to prepare meals with meat.

Other:

I grew up in a very handy family and have a good grasp on simple carpentry, building, and landscaping projects. With guidance I feel confident using provided tools and plans to execute a large or small scale building project.

Was noch ...

I enjoy reading and discussing books. I also love movies and film and going to the movies is one of my favorite special treats whenever a really good film comes out!
