Beschreibung

We’re Emel & Gary, a newly married Austrian-Turkish & Irish couple, both 31. Instead of a traditional honeymoon, we quit our jobs in Australia to travel all the Americas. 🌎

We want to travel slowly and on a budget, staying longer in places rather than just ticking countries off a list. Workaway gives us the chance to travel longer, meet locals, experience everyday life, share skills and learn something new along the way.

We’re especially interested in regenerative farming, sustainable/off-grid living, natural building and hands-on projects. One day we’d love to create something of our own — maybe a small farm, tiny home or natural house.

We’re adventurous, easy-going and open-minded, and love nature, van life, motorbikes, good food and experiencing places beyond the usual tourist route - always happy to step outside our comfort zone.

For us, travelling is about the experiences, learning, the people we meet and hopefully coming home one day with a lot more knowledge, stories and friendships than we left with. 🌍

Languages are a big part of travelling for us! 🌍 Emel speaks German, Turkish and English, and Gary speaks English and is currently learning Turkish. We’d both love to learn Spanish and improve our language skills along the way. We’re always happy to teach the languages we know and would love to exchange languages with locals and other travellers.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

We’re both practical, hands-on and hardworking, with experience working on mine sites in Australia. We’re very comfortable around tools, machinery and construction environments and have experience with mechanical work, building, repairs and general maintenance.

Emel: I have experience in construction, rigging, mechanical work and working as an electrical trade assistant. I’m comfortable using tools and operating machinery, with tickets/licences including forklift, telehandler, EWP and truck driving. My other background is in sales and administration, so I’m also confident with computers, technology and paperwork. I enjoy social media, photography and video editing, and I’m getting more interested in content creation as I love documenting our travels and experiences along the way. I’m also a qualified yoga teacher and speak German, Turkish and English.

Gary: I have 10+ years of hands-on experience across construction, mine sites and maintenance work. I’m very confident using a wide range of tools and have experience with electrical work, carpentry, mechanical tasks, repairs, building and general DIY. I’m also comfortable operating machinery including loaders, excavators and forklifts.

I’ve previously worked on a large sheep farm with around 9,000 sheep and have experience with harvesting crops including wheat, barley, oats and canola. I’ve also worked a season at a surf school and really enjoy working outdoors and with animals, especially dogs.

Together: We’re flexible, practical and happy to get involved with almost anything — construction, renovations, maintenance, farming, gardening, animals, DIY or digital/social media projects. We’re not afraid of hard work, and if there’s something we haven’t done before, we’re always keen to learn and give it a go!

Was noch ...

We’re both active, adventurous and love being outdoors, beach days, exercising, trying new sports and pretty much anything that sounds fun or a little different.

We’re very social and love meeting new people, good conversations, music, playing guitar, games and spontaneous plans. We also love animals nature, camping, motorbikes and the idea of van life and exploring places a little differently.

We’re always up for trying something new, exploring somewhere new or simply having a good laugh with good people. 😊
