Hello everyone! I’m Ben, originally from the Ribble Valley in the north of England.

I’ve spent much of the past 15 years living, working and travelling across several continents through working-holiday programmes. Now, Workaway feels like the perfect way to continue exploring the world, meeting interesting people and contributing to worthwhile projects along the way.

I have a genuine passion for travel, experiencing different cultures and learning from the people I meet. A conventional 9-to-5 life has never really suited me—I’m happiest when I’m outdoors, working with my hands, discovering somewhere new or sharing stories over a beer or a glass of wine.

Ideally, I’m looking for paid opportunities that will help me cover my ongoing expenses while travelling, although I’m still open to hearing about other opportunities that feel like a particularly good fit.

A little more about me:

I’m 36 years old and a dual British-German citizen. My mother is German, so I hold both British and German passports, giving me the freedom to live and work throughout the UK andthe European Union.

English is my native language, and I have a basic understanding of German that I would love to improve. In the future, I’d also like to learn Spanish, Italian and French.

I’m a fully qualified electrician and structural landscaper, having worked in the construction trade for more than 20 years . My practical skills include rewiring houses, building decking, log cabins, pergolas and retaining walls, as well as paving and general construction and maintenance work.

Through living and working in Kenya, Dubai, Australia, Malawi, Canada and the EU, I’ve gained experience across several areas of construction and project management. This has included structural landscaping in Sydney, fire-alarm safety systems in Banff and project management in Zomba, Malawi.

I’m a professional drone operator with experience flying both cinematic and FPV drones. Photography, videography and content creation are all major interests of mine, and I’d be very happy to use these skills to help a host promote their business, property or project.

Away from work, I love hiking, camping, skiing, running, biking, and almost any outdoor activity—whether it’s on a mountain, in the countryside or on the water. I also enjoy reading, having some quiet time to myself and getting to know people through good conversation.

I’m practical, adaptable and comfortable working independently or as part of a team. I don’t smoke or use drugs, and I’m respectful of other people’s homes, cultures and ways of life.

I’m excited to meet new people, learn new skills and bring my experience and enthusiasm to the right opportunity.

The majority of my skills lie within the construction industry, having spent over 20 years working in various roles from an Electrician to Structural Landscaper.

- Fully qualified Electrician
- Structural Landscaping, involving swimming pool renovations, decking, log cabins, paving/patio and retaining walls
- Fire Alarm technician

I am more than comfortable in anything electrical, building decking, log cabins, paving, tiling, grouting, painting, roofing and will turn my hand to most things. Always willing to learn new skills.

Was noch ...

I am a keen photographer/videographer and am a licensed drone operator having been lucky enough to make it a full time job.
I also love sharing stories, participating in a variety of sports/board and card games. Anything that doesn't involve a mobile phone really!
