Not afraid of getting my hands dirty. I am good at outdoors & medium physically demanding jobs. I like to organize, clean, cook, etc... always happy with music and good vibes. Get-go high energy vibe from the morning. Also love learning languages and conversating with people and can help you practice Spanish, English or Catalan, if interested.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Language exchange while ...)

This experience was just perfect and I recommend to everyone that is thinking about joining this project, to just go ahead and do it.

The school … read more feels small and friendly, nothing intimidating at all, even though it was my first teaching experience and I was sort of apprehensive about teaching and a bit anxious in the beginning. The local teachers and administrative staff are the sweetest and make you feel like you are part of the family from the first minute. Also, the students are just the best! All of them, (from kids, teenagers to adults) have the most contagious and honest curiosity and the will to learn. It was just, really, a gift of an experience.

(WORK, VOLUNTEERS and HOUSING)The group of volunteers also felt like family from the minute I stepped into the house. I was so lucky. It was great atmosphere and we could all practice and learn all the different languages of each other, on our free time and we had a lot of fun times and laughter. We also went on a few excursions to explore the surroundings of the town.

Work is easy as an assisting teacher. You coordinate with the leading teacher in what they wish to work on, for that day's lesson and what to help them prepare and/or perform in class. The focus of the school is for the students to become competent in oral abilities (understanding and speaking the language) so the most important thing is that you talk with them as much as possible and make them feel comfortable to speak the language and help them correct mistakes and acquire fluency. Workload is easy, usually around only 2 or 3 hours a day, 6 days per week.
The housing is simple but it has everything you need: a simple mattress on the floor in a shared dorm with other girls, and food supplies with the basics for you to cook your own meals (grocery shopping happening once a week, and you can also then compliment with whatever other different or extra stuff you might want yourself)

Assa is a rural area, with no tourists at all. There is no big supermarket, but loads of small shops with pretty much everything you might need. It is nice and relax vibe. People and kids will be curious of you on the streets and come say 'hi'. Because it is a small village, community is important and so it is to acknowledge people on the street, since you are the foreigner visiting here. A simple 'hello' or even just a nod to the adults, and a few words and smiles to the kids (that want to practice their French, Spanish or English) goes a long way, and shows respect. Sahrawi culture is EXTREMELY welcoming and very rich in its own costumes and people will show you high levels kindness and will make you feel included and welcomed in a very honest and warm way. It was a great experience and very enriching. I highly recommend.
