Hello!

I’m Marilou, or just Mar :)

I’m 22, and I grew up between the sea and the mountains in the south of France.
I’m starting a 6-month break from my mechanical engineering studies in December 2025, just after a 5-month exchange in Mérida (Mexico).

At first, my plan was simply to see how I would manage being away from my comfort zone with just a backpack and what I could learn from it. But much to my grandma’s relief, things are a bit clearer now: I want to travel slowly through volunteering, taking the time to meet people, learn new skills, and explore the areas around each volunteer place.

I’d love to develop skills in permaculture, construction, language teaching (French, English), and taking care of children and animals. I’m also very sensitive to ecological and social issues, and I’d be thrilled to join a project related to these topics. But I’m open to all kinds of missions! What matters most to me is connecting with people and discovering new skills and ways of living :)

I’m easy-going, curious, and a team player always ready to roll up my sleeves and help out. For now, most of my practical experience comes from regularly helping my grandma in her garden, having some basic DIY and computer skills from my studies, growing up with a cat at home, and often looking after my little cousins. Even though I’m still building my experience, I’m highly motivated to learn.

I’m generally a calm person, except when it comes to adventure: camping, surfing, climbing, playing football… I’m enthusiastic and usually up for any new experience or shared activity such as going for a walk, playing board games, watching movies, or simply chatting. I also enjoy spending time alone to recharge my batteries, usually reading, drawing, writing, or listening to music.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I enjoy physical work such as gardening and DIY, as well as hands-on or creative tasks and problem-solving. I’m not afraid of hard work or getting my hands dirty, and I pay close attention to communication and mutual respect. Above all, I’m happy when I can be useful.

🗨 In addition to French (my native language), I’m comfortable in English (B2 level) and I can get by quite well in Spanish. I don’t have formal training, but I would love to teach French or English.

⚙ As a mechanical engineering student and a member of a bike repair association, I have basic DIY and computer skills. I can also help with homework or give lessons in maths or physics.

🌳 I’m also familiar with outdoor work, as I’ve been helping my grandmother for years with demanding tasks in her large garden, such as concreting, digging, preparing soil, mowing, pruning, and using a jackhammer.

👩‍👧‍👧 I often take care of my young cousins.

🐱 An animal lover, I’ve always had a cat at home and enjoy taking care of animals.

🍽 I’m not a professional cook, but I enjoy cooking, especially vegetarian and vegan meals.

Above all, I’m very eager to learn, whatever the field.
