Hello! My name is José and I'm form Barcelona, Spain.
I've signed up in Workaway because I want to become an independent young man. I really want to learn about self sufficient lifestyle, learning from my daily experiences and growing personally and intellectually as time flies. I love feeling connected with nature and spending time in the countryside and in the mountains.
I would describe myself as a warm and friendly person. I enjoy talking and discussing different topics with the people I get to meet in my trips. I enjoy playing board games and sports.
At the same time, I consider myself as a hard working person. I always try my best and I learn from my mistakes, paying attention and giving my maximum effort in my duties. I'm an athlete and physical work isn't a problem at all! I'm constantly improving my artistic side and craft knowledge.
Right now I'm studying to become an Agricultural Engineer in the Polytechnic University of Catalonia but I love to travel in my free time. I enjoy trekking in the Pyrenees mountains and going to my house in the countryside of Lleida.
I have a lovely pumpkin cat called Rosset and I have some previous experience with farm animals since I used to go to a summer camp with animals.
I'm looking forward to spending a great time with you, helping in everything needed and giving my best to have a great cultural exchange.

I know four languages; Spanish, English, French and Catalan. 1) I'm a native speaker of both Spanish and Catalan. I would love to teach you if you want to take some classes! 2) I have the C1 Advanced level in English, I also lived in the US for a year and I've spent several summers in Ireland. If you want to practice your English with me, I'll be glad to help you. 3) I have the DELF level B2 in French. I've been taught in my school since I'm 5 years old and I would like to keep practicing my skills before I start to have trouble remembering. I'm fluent and I would love to practice my French more often.

I'm a proactive person, I give my best and I learn fast.
I have finished High School and I'm now in the university learning Agricultural Engineering, soon I'll be an expert! I have an ecological garden where I grow my fruits and vegetables, I'm still learning since is a small patch that my university offers me.
I can help in many areas;
- Teaching Spanish (I'm a native speaker) also helping you practice other languages such as English or French, I'm completely fluent in both. And I also speak Catalan, a regional language in the north east of Spain.
- Doing gardening related tasks such as cutting grass, helping clean forestal areas, cleaning and barn/farm, cleaning paths, doing heavy work (moving materials and cleaning barns or areas where you want to build something later on), planting and harvesting vegetables, etc.
- I have some experience in a animal farm I used to go as a child during the summer. Over there I fed and took care of pigs, goats, sheep, ducks and chickens. I enjoy my time with the animals and I want to train back all what I used to do.
- I also have some experience working as a waiter. I worked in a restaurant while I was living in the United States. I did cleaning tasks, made coffee for the costumers, I took commands and served in the front of the store giving ice-creams and selling pastries.
- I love dogs and cats. I have a cat and I used to live with dogs in the US. I can take care of them, take them for a walk and play with them.
- I enjoy very much spending time with children, teaching about my culture, teaching my language, playing and enjoying their young energy! I could also take care of them since I've done it in the past with little cousin.
I might be young, I know, but I have loads of energy to give and I'm willing to give my best to help out. I want to learn about self-sufficiency, being able to grow an ecological garden that could sustain me and having the knowledge to build and construct (which I have to ameliorate and would really like to learn).

I have a couple of hobbies, I've always been an athlete, I've played Basketball in my school's team, I was a swimmer in my neighborhood's club, I did cross country and athletics... Right now I'm focused on studying and I Box in my neighborhood's club.
I'm interested in actuality, politics and learning how the world works. Maybe that's why I'm an enthusiast of traveling to places way different and far away from home.
I like all types of food, specially sea food, now I'm learning to cook so I can make some Spanish dishes for you. I enjoy my weekends and holydays either doing trekking in the mountain with friends or with my family in Malaga (south of Spain) or in the Canary Islands.
I have a house in the middle of the countryside. There lives my cat (in the farm). Now that I'm studying in the university I can't go very often but I try to be there every two weekends and we have some family time playing 'Exploding Kittens', 'Katan' or 'Scrabble'. My sister always wins! We also watch animal documentaries, go for night excursions and ride the bike around the fields.
I live in Barcelona, a big city. Here, a part from studying and boxing, I like spending time with friends. We go bowling, we play snooker and we go to a bar to see the Barcelona (Barça) FC games.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Connect with nature while ...)

My experience with Jess, Dave and their two wonderful children has been amazing and completely worth it.
From the very first moment I noticed that they are a very nice and caring family. They asked me about my skills, what I felt comfortable doing, and what not. They asked me about my interests, and they told me about the different jobs we would… read more be doing during the month.
Work was easygoing most days; some others it was physically demanding.
I personally spent lots of time with Will and Tommy, we did some woodwork, organization, moving materials, wood splitting, and lots of gardening, but most of all we enjoyed each other’s company. That’s a great thing I really appreciated how the dynamics of how work became more enjoyable by having interesting conversations and learning and appreciating the little tricks that we were applying.

Whatever we did during the day, almost every afternoon we would have a nice relaxing time all together. The views in Dome Creek are amazing, the Rocky Mountains, the creeks and the Fraser River always were a thing to admire. Wilderness is everywhere. During the little trips for fulfilling the water jogs in the magic creek, we would see the vast forests, the mountains, and every now and then a bear with the little cubs. There were many activities that we would do as a group. From going for some water in the nicest spot you could imagine, to going fishing with the boys and having a nice conversation with a cold drink. There are many great memories I’m bringing back home: running in the pouring rain, picking berries under the nice Canadian sun, learning how to use a lathe, learning how to fish properly (thanks to Quentin, my fellow German friend), learning about bolts (a great experience for my curriculum :) ), the night games and the discussions on many interesting topics, man's night (where you meet the neighbors), etc. Trust me, you won’t regret entering in this family’s life.

Jess is this really caring mother who cooks the best food you’ll ever try. Always there to innovate and suggest a good idea or plan.
She’s a specialist in baking and also knows a lot about herbs. I wish I had more time to ask her and learn some recipes. Something I really appreciated about her was her interest in my country and my culture. For me, the night we had watching documentaries was really special. I’m taking back home nice conversations, new ideas and plans that I’ll probably ask you about, Jess, since you’ve traveled to many places I want to go. And I'll surely bake the sourdough recipe that we didn’t finish making but I’m sure it will be delicious!

Dave is the guy. Most of the time I was there, he was working in his sawmill but I also got many chances to share work with him. And most of all, we had lots of time all together in the afternoons. He’s funny, charismatic and has a great philosophy of life. He’s passionate about his lifestyle. I’m not surprised, it’s amazing and unique what they have built. I was amazed by many of his stories and I could tell that he has lived many things that you can really learn from. He took some time and introduced me to playing the guitar. Now I’m an expert In blues ;) He has a great music taste, a great variety of authors and also different genres.
Next time I see you, Dave, we’ll play some music together!! Please keep being that joyful parent that has patience when needed and is always ready to give some wise advice.

Tommy is the younger boy of the family. He brings funny moments and some trouble. Always there to give a hand to his dad or with the rest of the work. It’s surprising how he repairs and knows so much about many things being so young. I liked his little vehicles and his innocent pranks. I had a great time playing badminton with him, competing in the pull-up series and just going around the property trying his vehicles. I’m sure he’ll be like his brother, his mother and his father. I cheer him to keep going the same way and to build his cabin. When I see you again, Tommy, hopefully you’ll beat me in badminton and I’ll be able to keep up with the pull-ups.

The person who I spent most of the time with was Will. He’s a young man, but he has lots of things to say. I was surprised by his little experiments, his questions and his mentality. He’s a suuuper intelligent guy and also a great friend. I liked how he was exigent about work. Mulching, collecting peas, harvesting vegetables, weeding, gardening in general, moving wood or doing any work was a real duty/task. He wanted to take the best out of me. But at the same time we took our small breaks, we talked, we argued a lot about different points of view… I really enjoyed my time with Willy. As I said, he’s growing to become a great man. Both of his parents are the best examples to look up to, and this, combined with his natural curiosity, are two key factors to his success. I would like to see the house he’s building for himself finished one day. I'm sure the future holds great things for him.

I also want to talk about and thank some other people that made my experience better and more fulfilling; Quentin, the other workawayer that stayed with me in Dome Creek and who was a great cook and a great friend. Papu, with his music and the new album he just released. Nana with her wonderful farmhouse with the best views and the nice conversations we had about Spain. And Kegan, a great guy and companion during work, and a great example that you can become part of that nice and beautiful community. Finally, I have to mention Laika and Sunny, the two loving dogs that follow you and protect you around the property. And Floufonge, the pretty cat that, apart from being nice and charming, is an absolute survivor.

This family brought me joy. They have opened doors and showed me new ways in life. I have many things to think about. I’m thankful to them for letting me join their lifestyle as another member of the team. I’m bringing home not only little treats like the spinning top, but also great stories and memories like the delicious “Adios” cake that Jess made on my last night, the “Spanish wisdom” sayings that we came up with all together, the sunsets by the river and many skills and knowledge that will be useful in life.
Finally I just want to thank you all guys; it’s been an absolute pleasure meeting you and working with you for the last month. I would repeat it and enjoy a thousand more times. I leave not as a traveler that just passes by, but as a friend that is there for any need. You are more than welcome to visit back home and I hope to see you and Quentin also back again soon or in 10 years. We still have to climb Mt. Holy Cross...
