Hey there! My name is Emily, I'm 21 years old and I'm from Scotland, UK. I grew up and still currently live in Glasgow, Scotland and most recently graduated from the University of Glasgow in June with a single honours Geography degree. During my studies I mainly focussed on human styled geography with my favourite aspects being historical geography learning about the growth of the discourse over the centuries and the development of exploration and navigation. Now that I am no longer a student I am looking for opportunities to explore and grow! I think this would be the best time for me to try a work exchange where I could help give back to communities while travelling overseas, experiencing new cultures and branching my horizons.

I am a friendly easy-going person who enjoys a real multitude of things. I am reliable, honest and trustworthy and I love doing group activities with friends. I always try to bring along new people and mix my friend groups when sorting days out which is always great to see everyone mingle and become pals. I often find myself organises days or nights out to catch up and do pub quizzes, movie/games nights and meals out when everyone's free. I always aim to make everyone feel included and have a good time especially if anyone has come alone because I understand how nerve-wracking it can be to try and fit it when you don't know anyone. I also enjoy moments quiet moments of calm to relax and enjoy my surroundings.
Some of my hobbies and interests include tennis, arts and crafts, going to the cinema, travelling, long walks and hikes, hanging out with family and friends and meeting new people. I am animal daft with two furry friends of my own, a Bengal cat named Charlie and a labradoodle called Piper (in my profile picture) who I go on long walks with everyday while enjoying nature (sometimes Charlie follows us too!). I am family orientated and love kids with young ones in my family I always enjoy spending time with and getting up to mischief. Living on the outskirts of Glasgow, I am very fortunate to be close by to many beautiful woodland areas and vast fields of farmland where I can spend time in nature enjoying the tranquillity and observing wildlife. I love spending time outdoors, even though the weather isn't to be relied upon in Scotland and enjoy going walks with friends in new places.

Before settling into the world of work I hope to take some time to travel abroad and culturally immerse myself in a new exciting environment. I have never travelled outside of Europe before so my desire is to trave to a different continent if possible. This will be my first workaway experience and while this is dauting I hope that by pushing myself out of my comfort zone in a new environment I will grow as a person, understand and appreciate other cultures, make new friendships and be proud of my accomplishments through Workaway. I have strong organisational skills that I have already utilised for travelling with three previous holidays where I personally took upon the challenge or researching and planning trips with friends and family to Prague, Rhodes Island and both Brussels and Amsterdam. here I made sure to furtherly research the travel routes, prices, places to stay comparing options for the best deals and opportunities. I enjoyed making flexible itinerary's to balance everyone's interests and ensure everything went as smoothly as possible. I have a strong work ethic believing that if a jobs worth doing its worth doing right, I am ready to face any challenges or difficult tasks thrown my way. I love travelling around Europe and my own country of Scotland, visiting small towns up north or big cities and embracing the abundance of diverse ways of living that can be found here alone. This has always made me motivated to reach further and see just how different and amazing other parts of the world are.

History is a main passion of mine. I love watching historical films and tv shows and reading historical accounts, learning how the world we live in today has come to be, what has shaped it and understandings the lessons we must learn from the past are all absolutely fascinating to me. my childhood has been filled with trips across the UK visiting historical landmarks, castles, country houses and museums which played a defining part in fulling my passion and curiosity. I have been lucky enough to be a part of two historical based educational trips in the past. one with my secondary school in France and Belgium to visit the various WW1 graveyards and battlefields where i was personally honoured to take part in the Mein in Gate ceremony in 2017 marking the 99th year since the first World War ended. I also was involved with The Holocaust Educational Programme , a charity organisation specifically taking part in the Learning From Auschwitz programme dedicated towards never forgetting the atrocities committed by the Nazis during WW2 upon the Jewish community. This experience not only allowed me to visit two of the Auschwitz camps including Auschwitz-Birkenau, but also get to meet and hear the first hand accounts of Holocaust survivor Janine Webber. This experience was deeply harrowing but undoubtably rewarding and will forever be ingrained in me. This voluntary experience truly showcased how important giving back to a community can be, and so to utilise all the invaluable information we had learned we created a wall memorial in dedication to the trust filled with, drawings, poems facts and personal stories etc. By doing this, the students observing our display could have a quiet moment of reflection to take in the memorial in their own time creating a more personal experience of remembrance. I hope these examples outline my compassion and the effort I put into projects I'm involved with. I put care into the things I do in hopes for the best outcomes.

I hope you take the time to consider me as a workaway :)

Although I have yet to volunteer through any platform like Workaway before, I have done so locally. During my last year of secondary school before being interrupted by the Covid pandemic, I volunteered at my local charity based horse riding stables called RDA, Riding for the Disabled Association. Here I spent time caring for horses living at the stables undergoing tasks such as feeding, grooming and walking the horses to the nearby field. mucked out stables, cleaned the yard the riding equipment and more. I am always willing to help put whenever necessary and not afraid to get my hands dirty, plus getting to help with the horses was great fun! :) I also volunteered with a tennis programme called SheRallies, an organisation aimed to help promote and encourage young girls to stay in sport generally, but with a main focus on tennis. Here I helped organise fun group activities for youngsters where not only would they practice techniques and coordination but also help stay fit and healthy. My greatest achievement through work has been when I was selected twice to be one of the ball girls for the Davis Cup tennis tournament hosted in Glasgow in both 2016 and 2017. I was privileged to be a part of such a major event where I maintained professionalism and focus under the spotlight of national TV and thousands of spectators. This experience showcased my hardworking attitude and dedication where I played my part to ensure that everything ran smoothly for the players involved and the people watching.
I often help my mum with her crafting business LinPinCrafts at events or trade shows helping her set up and man her stall, talking to customers about my mum's impressive creativity and talent trying to encourage sales and spread her business further. I have helped watch over some of my neighbours children so know how to keep kids busy, being creative and have fun when learning.
I currently help out an elderly neighbour of mine by walking her dog Alfie at night to save her having to walk while the nights are getting darker and colder and because our dogs get on so well and Alfie is the sweetest little guy its an absolute bonus for me! I am artistic and love being creative. growing up I've always enjoyed drawing, painting, writing stories and school projects the more creative the better!! A few years ago I made my own version of the boardgame Cluedo based upon by family and created all my own character and playing cards with funny anecdotes etc. If there are any creative jobs needing help with I would love help out. I have many general household skills as I often help around the house with cleaning and tidy, gardening etc. I am an organised hardworking individual with a keen eye for detail who enjoys being able to help others. I often find myself being designated chief furniture assembler at home over the years and although as challenging and frustrating these simple tasks can be I enjoy being able to assemble things and gaining that sense of satisfaction.
Some skills I wish to develop are cooking and gardening/plant care. These are areas I would very much like to expand upon and would be keen to learn more about if given the chance. It would be amazing to learn about new plant species and popular dishes native to the places I travel too. I am always wanting to expand my skillset, become closer to nature and learn new ways of life.

Other interests I may have forgotten to mention include music, while I do not play any musical instruments myself I love listening and discovering new songs. I enjoy hearing music on the go, live performances (big or small venues) or just curled up at home. My favourite genre is Rock but I enjoy a bit of everything. I enjoy comedy performances whether that is Stand up or improv etc it is always a great way to spend time with family and friends. I try go to the famous Edinburgh fringe festival every year which I would recommend to anyone coming to Scotland to check out!!!

I will be particularly interested in getting the chance to see any wildlife, beautiful landscapes or nature spots as well as learning typical or niche local pastimes.
