My name is Emily; I’m 27 years old and originally from Colorado, USA. I hold a degree in International Development and Social Change. Education is one of my passions, and I have a range of both informal and formal teaching experiences.

🏫I am a TESOL certified English teacher. I've taught 1 year in Thailand and Vietnam, 1 year in the USA, 3 months in Greece, and 8 months in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The past year, I've primarily been teaching refugees and asylum seekers, and have been working on a curriculum book for beginner teachers who work with these populations.

💃I am a former Scottish Dance teacher and also love to sing and play the ukulele. I am passionate about the power of arts and music for community building.

🌱I am passionate about environmental education. I worked at a farm school for a summer, teaching youth about agriculture, forest ecology, and animal husbandry.

🪻I worked as a manager at a natural medicines store for a year, educating customers about herbal remedies and nutrition.

One of my core beliefs is that the most difficult jobs (activism, humanitarian work, teaching) are sustained through joyful community.
I’m excited to keep building community through workaway! :)

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I've worked on 4 different farms and have experience with spring prep and weeding, veggie harvesting, and preparing animal feed for goats, chickens, sheep, pigs, and donkeys. I grew up tending a backyard veggie garden, so am very familiar with fertilizing, organic pest management, proper watering, and pruning/harvesting.

I also have experience with customer service and hospitality. I worked for 4 years at the front desk of a planetarium, scheduling field trips and community programs. I also worked as a manager at a natural foods store, where I managed a team and communciated with customers in a face-paced environment.

Was noch ...

I love music, and travel with my ukulele! I can sing music in Tagalog, Scottish Gaelic, Turkish, and Arabic, and would love to expand my musical repertoire and share with others :)

In the future, I would love to learn more about somatic therapy and trauma-informed therapy, especially in refugee/migration contexts
