Hey!
I'm Alex, 22 years old , from Northern Ireland, and currently taking a gap year between my bachelors and masters degree, using my time to work, volunteer and travel.

I'm Ella, i'm also 22 years old, from the southeast of England. This year has been my first break since my bachelors degree and I have spent it working with children with special educational needs and in hospitality, trying to save for this next trip! After our travels I hope to start developing my career in the Humanitarian and NGO sphere.

As anthropology students studying in Manchester - where we both met three years ago- we developed a passion for learning from other cultures finding beauty and value in alternative ways of living which help us shape the way we live.

For this workaway we are hoping to deepdive into a culture different from our own in the hopes that we can exchange skills and knowledge with the people we meet along the way, as well as getting to see more of the beautiful sights that Asia has to offer!

We are hard working and will set our minds to any task given, not only because we enjoy helping others but because we would love to learn more skills such as gardening and DIY.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Alex: I love to cook, and having worked in the catering industry for over four years, I have gained a variety of skills that I would love to put to use! I have gained further skills from volunteering at children's summer camps and gardening at a previous Workaway, where I also played the guitar for the group during our singalongs. My time in academia has granted me many digital and research skills that could be useful in the right environment and my current volunteering roles as research assistant and journalist could also be utilized through blog writing and in media.
Ella: I have six years of hospitality experience as an assistant manager and bar staff so am great with dealing with customers as well as making drinks! I am also an avid cook. During my time volunteering at a foodbank I developed my cooking skills, making meals for groups of up to 40 people so am confident in the kitchen but would love to learn new techniques! I currently work as a special needs teaching assistant and I love working with and teaching children. I have also taught adults informal English lessons before. Additionally I have work experience gardening as well as painting and was taught how to sew as a young child. I am also a confident writer and have perviously interned with a digital marketing company so may be able to help with social media, branding and marketing.

Was noch ...

We would love learning about alternative ways to live and other's wellbeing practices, such as permaculture, yoga, meditation etc.

Alex: I love to dance and have hosted dance exercise classes in the past, and enjoy engaging in musical activities with others. I also volunteer for two organizations here in Northern Ireland, one related to peacebuilding, the other migration. These are topics I am very interested in and love to engage in discussions on!

Ella: I some from a creative family and so like to paint or mould clay and have recently joined my mother in making silver jewellery. I am passionate about human rights and humanitarian issues and have previously volunteered with the homeless, those struggling with poverty and my local migrant community. I am also currently finishing an internship with a charity who works to push local governments for the integration of anti poverty legislation into foreign policy.
