Hello,

I'm David from Belgium, probably the wettest country in Europe! Obviously I developed quite the affection for the Mediterranean, not only the climate but also the people are warmer and interesting.

I love nature and being outside, in the tranquil forest, serene mountains or basically anywhere outdoors. Not to say I don't like cities and culture, I do, especially like culinary experiences.
My passion is integrating science, nature and agriculture through agro-ecology, permaculture and similar concepts.

My reason for travelling with WorkAway is the ability for amazing experiences while both helping people and reducing travel expenses for extended stays.
Unlike other platforms, I do consider it a vacation, not a full-time job.

Convinced I'd like to move to Southern Europe at some point in my life I'd like to discover and prospect as many regions as possible.

Open to new experiences of all kinds, of course good cooperation requires respect and some basic agreements.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I studied Biology and Agro-Biotechnology and I've worked many jobs over the years at universities and NGOs. As such I have a decent amount of theoretical knowledge on plants and animals with insight into ecological and farm design.

Most recently a Lab Manager for the University of Antwerp at the Faculty of Heritage, Department of Conservation & Restoration (Art).
A bit out of my comfort zone, but an interesting job nonetheless.

I've been Private-Tutoring science to students occasionally as a freelancer for several years now. Mostly Chemistry, Biology but also English and some other topics.
Currently doing a career switch to professional teacher (in training).

I've completed an online Permaculture Design Course and I'd love to build up more practical skills. As such eco/agro-tourism are my main interests for a volunteering experience. In the future I would like to focus on permaculture designs as a professional side activity.

Personally, I'm a reasonably smart, respectful but also helpful, positive and enjoyable person.
I can be very direct and sometimes even seem confused initially, hence I appreciate similar directness and respectful communication.
People have described me as authentic and sophisticated, but not the easiest person.

Apparently, people from Belgium are extremely organised; I plan my vacations in advance mostly to save on expenses and tickets prices as they increase nearing travel date.
