We are ravelling in Ecuador, looking for outdoor adventures and opportunities on community farming and eco projects.

Beschreibung

Kev and I (Catherine) are positive people who love to spend time in nature, whether that is through hiking, running, swimming or simply soaking up a mountain landscape, we are never happier than when being active outdoors (well Kev might say he prefers the relaxation bit afterwards!).

After a day in the hills our ideal relaxation would be eating great home cooked food (ideally home grown too) and enjoying a drink whilst catching up with friends.

Our working careers in the music industry (Kev) and education (Catherine) have given us a strong work ethic and good sense of humour to deal with challenges and tough times.

We are reliable and conscientious, making us a great asset to any team.

What we lack in knowledge about farming, we can make up for in a willingness to learn new skills and persistence to finish a job to our best abilities.

We are open to new experiences and are currently taking a year off our formal working lives to explore, learn and experience different cultures- especially trying new foods! We hope our workaway adventures will help us develop new skills, but also help us find a new rhythm in life so that we return to the uk energised and ready for the next chapter.

Was könntest du arbeiten?

We have a wide range of skills and are very adaptable and ameanble to learning new ones. We have both had successful careers in high stress and hard working environments.

Catherine is a qualified teacher of students with additional learning needs and difficulties for over 20 years. She has also worked in curriculum management for over 6 years which has given her exceptional organisation and admin skills.

Kevin has worked in the music industry as a sound engineer for over 30 years which has given him an exceptional sense of humour and technical expertise.

We have both previously volunteered in various capacities, including conservation work with a local orchard group, tree planting, general gardening and landscaping, litter picking, providing accommodation for young homeless people, and cooking in a vegetarian café.

During our year sabbatical so far we have volunteered on an organic orchard in Japan and at an eco retreat in Peru where we undertook tasks such as gardening and bio construction.

The above experiences have given us both skills and experience in the following areas:

1. Computer literate and familiar with a range of software packages, including word processing, using social media and media design (eg Canva)
2. Orchard maintenance (blossom and fruit thinning, pruning)
3. Fit and strong.
4. Quick learners flexible and adaptable to new challenges
5. Good team players, helpful, reliable
6. Good communicators and people people.
7. Good organisational skills
8. Cooking and food preparation, especially vegetarian cuisine.
9. Community minded
10. Positive and cheerful mindset

Was noch ...

We are taking a year long sabbatical to travel and explore different countries, landscapes and cultures. volunteering through work away offers us the perfect opportunity to contribute to a community while learning new skills, meeting local people, and immersing ourselves in a new culture.

Helping others and conserving the environment are important to us. Taking part in volunteering will help us learn more about how organic practices are utilised around the world and give us new skills to take home and implement in our home lives.

We are very excited to stay with local people in a farm or community setting. I am a beginner in speaking Spanish and am looking forward to developing my language skills and Kevin is keen to start.

We are both foodies interested in growing and eating local produce. We love to try new foods and drink and look forward to learning how to prepare local cuisine using home grown produce.
