Hi there! My name is Carlijn, a 30-year old woman from The Netherlands, still figuring out life. About a year ago I quit my super demanding finance job in London to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in the USA where I hiked for 5.5 months from Mexico to Canada in spring / summer. After that, I went to Mexico for some solo travel (and I'm currently still here, coming back to Europe for Christmas). I realize that I definitely don't want to go back to my past life / career and I'm figuring out what's next. I now find myself in need of some more routine, settling in one place for a while to give myself a chance to think about all this. I am specifically looking for opportunities where I'll be working outdoors with animals or where I can get some DIY experience (building, carpentry, etc). Also, I'm looking for a good mix between social interactions and some time to my own thoughts. Finally, I think physical activity and more practical work will allow my brain to do some necessary, unconscious processing and hopefully bring me to new insights on what's next in life! I love the outdoors, hiking, learning new things, being around people and so much more!

Always interested to exchange languages. I am Dutch but have lived and traveled internationally these last 10 years. I'd say I feel most comfortable in English nowadays. I have a pretty good understanding of Spanish and, because I grew up on the German border, I understand German too. Years ago I lived in Brazil for a while and at the time my Portuguese was good but I haven't been able to practice for a long time!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

Whatever it is, I'm a pretty quick learner and I'm excited to learn new skills!

I grew up with animals (horses, dogs, chickens, rabbits) and did lots of horseback riding when I was younger. I'll probably need a little guidance at the start but then I'm happy to take responsibility and ownership over the work I'm doing.

I'm physically fit and can help with all sorts of tasks that require some strength. I'd be happy to have a tired body at the end of the day, feel like I've done a workout!

Of course I'm also able to help out with tasks around the house. I can cook, clean, tidy, etc. although I hope to find a Workaway that requires a little more than just that!

I'm also always in for (deep) conversation. I like chatting about business and strategy (my former work) but I'm most passionate about travel and outdoors adventures as well as everything personal development.

There are so many activities I enjoy! In terms of games, I really like Monopoly Go, Boonanza, Ticket to Ride... Just be warned - I can get quite competitive with these things :)

Some of my other interests include yoga, reading, scuba diving, traveling. I have also gotten into learning about video editing (playing around with my video camera and drone), coding (exploring this as a potential next career) and camper van conversions (which is why I'd like to learn some more DIY). Ideally sometime next year I buy a van, convert it myself and drive around Europe while working remotely!
