Hi, I’m Alex, and I love learning about cultures, languages, and food. I really enjoy meeting new people and experiencing different ways of life! I’m a very open and social person, but I also appreciate quiet moments to read or be creative.

Through my studies and my current job at the Irish Studies department, I’ve developed a strong interest in Ireland and would love to immerse myself in the culture as much as possible.

I’m currently studying to become a teacher with a focus on English and Irish literature and pedagogy, and I enjoy working with people in a patient and supportive way. I’d be happy to help with childcare, homework, or language learning. Since I speak three languages, I can also support with English or German.

I’m a creative person and enjoy activities like reading, writing, and arts and crafts, but I’m also happy to help with physical, as long as I get to stay creative :)

In addition, I have experience managing Instagram through my current job, so I’d be glad to help with social media or content creation.

Overall, I’m open-minded, reliable, and always eager to learn and contribute wherever I can!!

Was könntest du arbeiten?

I have been giving private tutoring since 2020, mainly supporting students in English and German, but I’m also flexible and have helped with a variety of subjects. This has strengthened my communication skills and my ability to adapt to different learning styles.

In addition, I work as a student assistant in the field of Irish Studies at university. Through this role, I’ve gained experience in an academic environment and developed a deeper understanding of Irish culture, literature, and language.

As part of my job, I am also involved in managing Instagram content. I create posts, take photos, and help present content in a creative way while keeping up with current trends.

I am currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in English and Education, which further supports my interest in working with people and sharing knowledge in an accessible and supportive way!

In my free time, I really enjoy being creative. I love painting, doing crafts, and making scrapbooks, really anything where I can express myself and try out new ideas.

I also enjoy video games and fantasy books or stories, as I like diving into different worlds and being imaginative.

At home, I have a dog that I love very very much, so I’m also very comfortable around animals and enjoy spending time with them.

Vom Workawayer () für Host (Join our arts community space ...)

I had a really interesting three months with Clive in Malta. The location is great and makes it quite easy to get around and explore almost the whole island, which was definitely a big plus for me.

The work itself is around three hours a day, but the schedule is quite informal and flexible and can change from week to week, sometimes even from day … read more to day. So you should be comfortable planning your free time around the workshops rather than expecting fixed working hours.

The workshops were probably my favourite part of the experience. Painting the traditional Maltese-style tiles with visitors is genuinely fun, and you get to meet people from all over the world!! You do need to enjoy working with people, talking to strangers and adapting to different personalities...

Clive knows Malta extreeemely well and gave me lots of good recommendations for food, activities and places to visit. He was also always able to answer my many questions about the island. I was often invited to join for a board game in the evening as well ( and if you like board games, you will definitely be in the right place, because Clive has an huge collection!)

I would strongly recommend reading Clive’s Workaway description carefully before coming, as it gives you a good idea of what to expect (!). This is definitely a place for people who do not mind getting involved and helping out where needed. Apart from the workshops, this can also mean helping with renovation, cleaning or other practical jobs around the house. The house is still a work in progress, so you should come with the right expectations and be comfortable with things being simple rather than finished and polished.

Clive is very much an artist in personality too, he is expressive, communicative and spontaneous so being flexible and not taking everything too personally definitely helps ;)

The accommodation is simple but perfectly fine for a Workaway stay!! One important thing, especially if you come in summer: there is NO air conditioning. Malta gets very hot, so definitely keep that in mind when deciding when to visit!

Overall, I met lots of interesting people, learned a lot about Malta and had many memorable experiences during my stay! I would recommend this Workaway especially to social, hard working, independent and flexible people who enjoy creative work, meeting new people and do not mind helping with a project that is still developing :)
