I have enjoyed two weeks staying at this farm on beautiful Saltspring Island in March. I have learned a lot about gardening, pruning trees, seeding and I was also preparing blueberry bushes with compost and mulch as well as trimming bushes, and weeding. Especially Joy and Jacques really took their time to teach as about gardening and were motivated to pass on their rich expertise. The work was really fair regarding to tasks and working hours and I still had enough time and energy to explore the island. All the people on the farm were really kind and helped when necessary. Especially Krysta cared a lot for us workawayers and was always concerned about our well-being. In March it was still quite cold and rainy, with the radiators in the cabins it was ok. The whole farm and also the outhouse and shower were quite neat. It was really interesting to learn experience their clever approach about organic farming. I think while the fruits grow and it is a bit warmer it is even a much better experience when you also can enjoy the pond and close lake and sea.

I feel so lucky to have volunteered at the sanctuary for a month! Ala, Lyndon and the whole family is so hard working and kind. I never felt like I was working, because you get so much love from the dogs & cats. Can not wait to come back one day. It's been the most beautiful experience, you will never want to leave.

We had such a good time helping out at the Chocolate Farm. We learned a lot about the cacao process, especially fermentation and drying the beans, and spent some time weeding. Since the work only took a couple of hours each day, we had plenty of time to enjoy their incredible chocolate ice cream, taste their unique chocolate beer, and explore the surrounding area. Thank you to Gerardo for your kindness and for being so patient with our Spanish, even though we didn’t speak much Spanish, we still had a lot of laughs, we really appreciated it. And thank you as well to Victor and the whole family for your warm welcome and for sharing your daily life with us. It truly felt special. We hope to see you again soon in Europe!

Lara & Hannah are truly delightful young women. They are thoughtful, warm and extremely capable. They threw themselves into every task I gave them with efficiency and good humour. They were super considerate around the home, seeing what needed to be done and doing it without being asked. If you have the good fortune to be approached by these ladies don’t hesitate to accept their stay. Highly recommended workawayers 😁

We had an amazing time with Oceane and her family. Everything was great : - we learned different skills: gardening and helped on the renovation of a room in the house - we shared a lot of meals with Oceane and her children. she is a great cook, and we were delighted to discover her recipes. This is the workaway you want to live. good work, amazing people that really care and want to share and make your experience worth it. We stayed only two weeks but we really appreciated our time and we were really sad to leave. To finish with, Powell River is so lovely. you can enjoy nature, beach and trails all around (watch for the sunshine coast trail). Go!

Kasia and her buddy were stayed with us and supported our dogs with so much care and dedication. They worked very hard to help keep the dogs cool, which is especially important in Thailand’s heat. Kasia love for animals truly shows—she is kind, gentle, and incredibly patient. She was also very sweet and caring with the other dogs living together here, always treating each one with kindness and respect. She always brought a bright, positive energy to our home, and her cheerful presence made each day easier. Kasia helped us tremendously with cleaning as well. She took care of many areas every day, and that support meant so much to us mentally. Our windows, which had been quite dirty, became beautifully clean and shiny—it truly felt like the whole house became brighter. During her stay, we went through a very busy and difficult time, as three of our dogs became sick and needed veterinary care. Thanks to her strength, patience, and sincere help with both the dogs and cleaning, we were able to get through it. We are truly grateful for her support during such an intense period. She is thoughtful, attentive to small details, and has a warm, caring nature—like a very kind mother. Spending this time together has become a truly special and memorable experience for us. We are so thankful for everything she has done, and she is always welcome back anytime.

I loved my stay at this place! Ceci and Sabrina were so nice and welcoming from the start. The shelter is very well organized, the volunteer apartment is big and clean. I had a video meeting with Sabrina before arriving and that was very helpful, I knew what to expect before even getting there. The tasks are mainly cleaning and feeding and bathing the dogs. There is also always time to play and cuddle with the dogs. And there is a possibility to do and learn more (i.e. assisting in anestheasia and minor operations). I really had the feeling I was there for the dogs. And the environment was always very pleasant and positive. The shelter is far from the city (which I liked) but on our days off we got to visit a cenote and a beach. If you are dog lovers, you will love this place :)

What a whirlwind. My month here was one of the most impactful of my life. I focused most of my time teaching M2 (kids age 8-12) with emphasis on those struggling to read and write. The kids can be challenging at times, but they are unbelievably affectionate and I feel like I was able to make a real difference to a few of them. Heads up, there's no real training before going in your first day but Rosmery and the other volunteers encourage you to listen and observe and see where you might be able to help. If you take a little initiative it all works out and I was able to lead multiple classes teaching time and mathematics. Life outside of school was my favorite part though. The other volunteers were very kind and cool we all spent a lot of time together hanging out on the terrace. The food Fiorella (the cook) makes is delicious and varied. I'm not veggie but if you are you'll have no problems eating well here.

The absolutely lovely Declan joined us at VRT at the end of the 2025 summer season, and what can I say—I truly feel like I’ve made a beautiful new friend for life. 🥰 Besides being one of the genuinely kindest people I’ve had the pleasure of spending time with, Declan is an incredibly intelligent, creative, and compassionate young man, with strong values and ethics. He really thrives in collaborative team environments. During his stay, we had multiple other volunteers on site, and he fit in so naturally—complementing both the energy of the group and the work effort, seemingly effortlessly. It honestly felt as if he had been with us all along… ☺️ Declan contributed greatly to making our outdoor garden spaces beautiful, and played a big role in caring for our animals. He was even instrumental in us adopting a third wonderful kitten—our dear Chimney! 🖤 All in all, I wholeheartedly recommend Declan to anyone considering hosting him. And here’s hoping he decides to visit us again this summer… Declan, we’re waiting for you! Summer 2026 is calling. 😉☀️🌊

We had a lovely one-month stay in Aigaliers with Tanur, Gilles, and Mara in July 2025. It’s very hard to put the wonderful experience into words in a short review - the people, the place, the atmosphere. The tasks we had to do daily, quickly became a smooth and enjoyable routine of our mornings. Everything was clearly explained to us by Gilles or Tanur. The work mostly consisted of maintenance around the house and garden, helping out at breakfast time, and then finishing up with more household tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning, and ironing. Both Tanur and Gilles are very patient and helpful, and they make you feel completely comfortable asking questions. Since everything was done in the mornings, we had the afternoons off. During that time, we could go on walks through the truly beautiful surroundings of Aigaliers - where every morning and evening felt more breathtaking than the last - enjoy the pool, relax, or explore nearby towns. The house itself is in the countryside, so it is peaceful and allows you to truly live a slow, mindful life. At the same time however there are great bus connections that make it possible to get to nearby towns. But the most wonderful thing here was not just the nature, the cutest dog called Mara, the help we could offer or Tanur’s amazing food (although that comes very close to the top of the list) - it was getting to know Tanur and Gilles. Funny, talented, intelligent, and above all kind people who are willing to share a part of their world with you. A world they are deeply engaged in and dedicated to in the best way possible. The thing I enjoyed most was perhaps the conversations I had with them about the things they are passionate about. It’s not often that you meet such down to earth, like-minded people, and for that I am incredibly grateful. Through Tanur and Gilles, we were also lucky enough to meet some of their friends as well as their family (who were just as special) and share memorable dinners filled with amusing stories and the most interesting conversations. So in the end, even though we stayed only a month, we definitely did not feel like strangers. Learning new things, enjoying the surroundings, getting to know Gilles and Tanur - in short, stepping into the reality of Aigaliers for a whole month - was a wonderful privilege. An experience I am convinced will stay with me for the rest of my life. I am very thankful to have had this opportunity.

Beautiful location and excellent company! Staying with Nour for the weekend was the perfect first experience in Paris. His warm welcome and generous personality made me feel right at home. I enjoyed our walks around the city and sharing stories from our lives. We tasted some great food and saw landmarks like Notre-Dame and Jardin du Palais Royal. The apartment is cozy and beautifully designed, and the bed is really comfortable. Grateful for your hospitality, Nour. 10/10 would return. À bientôt !

My second stay during my first Workaway trip took me to Nynne and Søren. My tasks included, after a relaxed start to each day, helping to fetch wood (from the forest), general spring cleaning, and collecting horse manure and spreading it in the garden. Nynne and Søren are incredibly nice people! We got along famously right away and had a lot of fun. During one visit, I even got to meet Nynne's mother, who I also got on really well with. The house is old and has a certain charm that I immediately loved. Dinner wasn't just a meal; it was a celebration! Simply delicious, and they used lots of homegrown and preserved produce—absolutely scrumptious! You'll also find 3 horses, 2 cats (who love to be petted), and (some very tame) chickens there (the number varies slightly). Søren even gave me a practical lesson on the importance of general safety clothing, and despite the age difference, I'm now allowed to call him brother (bro/bror). The setting where they live is simply incredible, practically in the middle of a vast forest, and you can be right in the heart of it within minutes. Another highlight is the raised bog, located just a few kilometers away in the middle of the forest, which can be visited.

On my very first Workaway trip, I had the opportunity to spend my first two weeks with Olga and Ole. The main focus was caring for the many animals that are an essential part of the adventure park they run. Almost all the animals here are tame and enjoy being around people. My other tasks included: chopping firewood, helping with various DIY projects, and demolishing a small, old goose house (that was fun!). For the remaining tasks, great care is taken to ensure they suit you; otherwise, you'll be assigned different ones. There's plenty to do, but the workload shouldn't be too much for anyone; I could have done even more in some parts. Olga and Ole are incredibly nice people, and I got along with them very well! Always friendly, very outgoing, and curious. I had two wonderful weeks with them. The surroundings are simply amazing and there's a beautiful beach nearby that you can even drive along by car.

Filippo is a lovely guy, he’s friendly, respectful, easy going and competed all the tasks that we have him. He did a great job painting our guest room and helped put a lot around the house. We have 3 young kids and he was good around them too. We would recommend Filippo to other hosts and would be happy to have him back if we need more work.

I just finished my Workaway at this shelter and I have absolutely nothing to complain about; it was my best Workaway ever! As a cat lover, I was in heaven. All the cats and dogs are adorable, as are the cats in the foster house, there are always one or two little fluffballs to keep you company during the night. Everything was fantastic: the atmosphere, the managers, the food the other volunteers, Julie—absolutely everything (we even had a karaoke night in Athens one day and it was really great!). You feel right at home, and you can tell the cats feel great too; they're such happy animals. I only left a day ago, and I already miss it. I'm already planning to go back later. What a great experience! Thank you so much to all the managers for this! 🫶🏼🐈‍⬛🫶🏼

Luna became a much loved member of our family during her stay. She was proactive around the home and willing to give anything a go. We really enjoyed hosting Luna.
