What an experience indeed! I stayed in this beautifully secluded sanctuary from the folly and chaos of the japanese urban landscape during a month in spring, and I'll quote Simon in saying that "there's a before and an after". I have gotten to both enjoy and learn things previously inaccessible, or even unknown to me, thanks to the generosity and hospitality of Simon and Kei. Both through labour and language was I presented with a novel and educative environment. Simon is a very passionate connoisseur of what might aptly be described as high-culture, offering extensive and profound knowledge of topics ranging from politics, history, cultural heritage, music to 20th century painters. Kei on the other side aided me in my linguistic studies and taught me how to tend for the animals. They are both increadibly kind and understanding and provided me with the privilege of getting to know them. Whilst the daily routine certainly does include a fair bit of work, ones efforts are graciously rewarded through the absolutely delicious dishes provided by Kei and the homemade bread, crafted by Simon, which is served for breakfast. The work consisted of quotidian care for the chickens (collecting eggs, feeding, cleaning, etc), herding the goats and playing with the most adorable dog this side of the earth has to offer. Besides variable tasks such as planting seedlings, potatoes, carrots, pruning, woodcutting, gathering, and similair yet distinct and edifying assignments kept one busy during the day. Beyond this the family were continously charitable in including me in events or activities such as playing board games, participating in the kids soccer match, visiting the local temple, making cheese, viewing the traditional quarter in Okayama and much more. And as if that wasn't sufficiently entertaining their two energetic and friendly kids never say no to a round of Mario Kart :) I should also note that the living quarter is very comfortable. Despite initally being slightly overwhelmed by the contrast of my previously strictly urban life, I deeply cherish this development in post as it has brought much knowledge and growth thanks to the opportunity granted to me by Kei and Simon. The aim and strife of the farm to cultivate the beauty of the japanese countryside is truly inspiring. Through scrumptuos, original, organic and homemade produce in tangent with a sincere care for the land and nature from which it is derived, Simon and Kei fundamentally elevate the country as a whole, and being able to participate in this is a gift beyond measure. I highly recommend this host and I firmly beleive that any motivated person looking to expand their lived experiences would greatly enjoy the company and purpose of this wonderfully amicable family and their farm, as most definitely have I.

Marcel could stay by us only for 2 weeks, but he showed himself to be a wonderful person and an amazing workawayer. He is quiet, responsible, respectful and hardworking. He has torn down the old goose house, helped with chopping wood and taking care of animals/pets and cleaning, he also removed molehills in the garden and removed withered branches. We became really good friends and continue to stay in touch and hope he will come again as he promised.

I spent three weeks at Tenuta San Lorenzo and it soon felt like home ! The other volonteers became my friends, and so it was like a giant cousinship, where you can play cards late, look at movies and play music together...overall I loved the energy of this place and I learned a lot about Italy's story and culture thanks to Laura and Peter, but also about myself while being there. If you can, we were all booking airbnb together during the week-ends, which is cheap and worth it because it defenetly brought us all together. :) So if you're not scared to work and experience a rustic and authentic daily life I highly recommand !!

Working with Silke has been a very positive experience. During her time as a volunteer at our home, she was a very pleasant and happy person and always showed a responsible attitude and a willingness to learn. She collaborated on various tasks without any problems, adapting and completing the work efficiently. Furthermore, she was respectful of the environment and the other members of our household, which is essential when sharing a space. Overall, she is a trustworthy and helpful person. I would definitely recommend her for any similar project. Thank you Silke!! See you in the way!! R.

It was an absolute pleasure to have Leni stay with us for 3 weeks this spring. She is such a nice person, wonderful company, easy to chat to, super nice with the children and just a pleasure to have around. She immediately fit in with us as if she was an old friend and the girls liked her a lot. Leni mainly helped me with cooking yummy dinners, around the house, with the animals, feeding the donkeys, the horse and the chickens, and of course Rex, cleaning paddock and coop and in the garden. Leni has enough experience running a household, she just got on with it and didn't really need any guidance. She joined me on a couple of 'beach trips' and we had nice conversations and a great time together. I will never forget the tears we laughed over dinners, playing 20 questions, making animal noises ;) ;) and telling jokes ;) We had so much fun together. It was also really nice to see her with the animals and how she cared for them. We truly enjoyed our time together and would be happy to have Leni visit us again any time.

Nico & Juliette stay at our campsite for almost 3 weeks. They are independant and can mingle well with the other 3 volunteers from Saudi Arabia, Italy & Albania. They help me maintain the campsite, raking the leaves (a lot of leaves during dry season) and also tidy up the woods from tree just we just chop down before they came. They also made some projects with bamboo where they made a shelves to put a flowers for decoration (actually they plan to make the bench but it turn out to be another thing 😁) and their second try, they make a nice japanese table from bamboo which is a nice addition to our treehouse platform lower ground. Really appreciate ehat they have done at the campsite and their help.

Emel came with her two daughters Zoramina and Mira and that made that we had a full house together with another workawayer from the Czech Republic. They all got along well and helped with animal care making a new fence for the goats and other odd jobs around the finca. They also cooked delicious meals. They participated in all the acivities around the village yoga, hiking and the social evenings in the hostal. Zoramina was able to use this workaway experience as part of her school project. Best wishes from us.

It was an amazing experience. The workload was very manageable, no more than five hours a day, which left plenty of time to relax or explore the surroundings. We were often treated to delicious local lunches, which was a really nice touch and a great way to discover the regional cuisine. The dormitory was comfortable and well maintained, making it easy to rest after a day’s work. The tasks themselves were straightforward and easy to understand, so everything felt smooth and stress free. Aaron and his team were incredibly kind, welcoming, and always willing to help, which made the whole stay even more enjoyable. If we ever find ourselves back in the area, we would definitely come again without hesitation!

We were so fortunate to have Julia and Kacper stay with us for a few weeks. They were warm and welcomed into our family right away (helping to calm a crying baby in the car ride home from the ferry!). They were a joy to be around, friendly, and genuinely interested in the work, our family, and the area. Despite the cold, rainy weather, they were outside every day with a smile on their faces. They helped with gardening and landscaping projects we had - working with various tools, climbing into the middle of hedges, up ladders, chopping down bushes, trees, ivy, and helping dig out the veggie garden - they accomplished more than we could have possibly imagined they were going to get done!! My only regret is that we didn't get to spend more time with them! With their diverse skills, kind personalities, eager and keen energy, they will be a big help with whatever project you have for them!

I have enjoyed two weeks staying at this farm on beautiful Saltspring Island in March. I have learned a lot about gardening, pruning trees, seeding and I was also preparing blueberry bushes with compost and mulch as well as trimming bushes, and weeding. Especially Joy and Jacques really took their time to teach as about gardening and were motivated to pass on their rich expertise. The work was really fair regarding to tasks and working hours and I still had enough time and energy to explore the island. All the people on the farm were really kind and helped when necessary. Especially Krysta cared a lot for us workawayers and was always concerned about our well-being. In March it was still quite cold and rainy, with the radiators in the cabins it was ok. The whole farm and also the outhouse and shower were quite neat. It was really interesting to learn experience their clever approach about organic farming. I think while the fruits grow and it is a bit warmer it is even a much better experience when you also can enjoy the pond and close lake and sea.

I feel so lucky to have volunteered at the sanctuary for a month! Ala, Lyndon and the whole family is so hard working and kind. I never felt like I was working, because you get so much love from the dogs & cats. Can not wait to come back one day. It's been the most beautiful experience, you will never want to leave.
