Was könntest du arbeiten?
Growing up on a farm, I was fortunate to build treehouses, work with animals , and spend a lot of time in nature. This experience helped me develop the ability to come up with solutions for various types of problems and gave me the confidence to bring my visions to life.

During my studies, I have gained comprehensive knowledge of renewable energy systems, including the design, implementation, and management of photovoltaic, wind power, electrolysis, and fuel cell technologies. In addition, I am very interested in the construction and integration of water, material, and energy cycles in buildings. I feel like nature provides us with everything we need and going back to the basics is a step forward rather than backwards. Last semester, I worked on a project comparing permaculture and conventional agriculture, which provided me with fundamental knowledge on this topic.

By working in several hospitality jobs, I developed strong communication and interpersonal skills. I also enjoy working with young children and have basic knowledge of video editing and programming languages such as C# and Python.

vom Host (Learn together on our ...) für Workawayer ()

Pia stayed with us for two weeks and helped animal care, horses,goats, chickens. Making a new fence for the goats, preparing the hugels for planting and other odd jobs on the finca. Vom Workawayer () für Host (Learn together on our ...)

I really enjoyed staying with Robert & Tanja for two weeks. Their small village is really special and they tried to share as much as possible about the area, the wildlife and local life with me & the other volunteer. We even got to see some wild animals like turtles, mountain goats, and a snake.

The nature there felt magical to me. I loved… read more spending time by the sparkling river with Lucía, reading, drawing, or simply enjoying the sun. The view of the mountains made everything even more beautiful. Their finca is also a wonderful place. The runner ducks and also the little pony Jorge often made us laugh and being surrounded by animals and nature made it very easy to slow down.

The work was absolutely manageable. We fed the animals, cleaned the horse meadow, and often helped with building a fence afterwards. I think on workaway they mentioned working 5 days a week, but in reality we also went to the finca on the weekend. It didn’t bother me personally but it might be helpful for future volunteers to know.

I definitely enjoyed my time at their place. Sometimes it felt a bit too quiet for me and at times the other volunteer and I weren’t quite sure what to do in our free time. But in a way, I also learned from that and also finally had time for drawing and reading again, which I really appreciated.

I volunteered together with a girl from Argentina who only spoke Spanish. Unfortunately, I hadn’t realized this beforehand, and I don’t think Robert & Tanja were fully aware of it either. Because of that, we couldn’t communicate much, but we still got along very well and made the best of it. Also it was good for me to improve my Spanish a bit.
For me personally, it still might have been even nicer to have another English-speaking person around, as Robert & Tanja were often watching TV or busy with other things in the afternoons, so from that time on you’re mostly on your own.

I would have appreciated a bit more personal interest in getting to know me and Lucía, as there weren’t many questions asked about us. At times, this made it feel a bit more work-focused than I experienced from other Workaway hosts. That said, this is of course very individual and depends on what you’re looking for.

Despite that, I truly enjoyed spending time with them, especially the game evenings, which I really loved! There were also some great activities, like going to yoga on Wednesdays with a truly inspiring teacher, and then heading to the local bar afterwards, which was always a lot of fun. Robert & Tanja have a very welcoming and fun group of friends!

We also took a trip to Horta, where Lucía and I went on a hike up a beautiful mountain, that was absolutely breathtaking. And once we went to the cinema, which I also really enjoyed, even though I couldn’t understand a lot because it was in Spanish haha

Robert & Tanja, thank you a lot for sharing your life with me! I really appreciate that! I had two wonderful weeks :) I’ll always look back on my time with you, your animals, and this special place with a lot of warmth and gratitude.
