We are Andrew and Sa'ad. We live in a large, old Victorian house in a well-connected part of East London (Forest Gate on the Elizabeth Line).
We moved in 6 years ago and have just finished restoring and renovating our home; and we have made some amazing friendships on Workaway along the way!
Now that the house project is (nearly!) complete, we are looking for housekeeping and general cleaning help to keep the house running.
We have a single room available for you to stay in with a comfy bed, and a small wardrobe and desk. There is super fast broadband and of course you have access to all the communal areas of our house! If we are a good fit then we would be happy to host you for a few months but would consider shorter stays of 2-4 weeks too. W would be looking for 25 hours help a week (which is about 5 hours of help a day for about 5 days a week), but we are flexible in terms of how to structure that time. What has worked well in the past in workaway in the morning and then you are free to explore and enjoy London!
You will be staying in London - one of the most exciting cities in the world and with the flexible hours you will have opportunity to explore everything in London that interests you!

We have been hosting workawayers for six now and have made wonderful friends many of whom have stayed with us for many months before moving on to their next adventure :)

Although workaway is not intended to introduce wokers to employers, and we are not an operating business or company, due to post Brexit regulations Workaway have requested that we offer a wage to those with a right to work in the UK who are offering professional services. We will therefore be willing to offer the London living wage of £12 per hour if you have specific professional skills that our suited to our needs and are looking for paid work. Although Workaway encourages shared meals as a way to enjoy a cultural exchange, if we will be paying a wage, then we would ask Workawayers to be responsible for their own food expenses and make a contribution towards their accommodation. The house is 5 mins from walk from Forest Gate station which is on the new elizabeth line. You can get to central london in about 30mins by metro or by bike! The house itself is really lovely and we are really enjoying living here even though there are lots of odd jobs that still need doing!

I have to say that this has been by far the best experience that I ever had during my short but valuable time in London.
It has been now 4 months since I left their company and I still feel like I'm missing part of my home in London!!!

The communication is something that I treasure a lot and with Saad I really felt comfortable with sharing close conversations and any question that I had about the neighborhood and the city. In that way, Saad is a person who is always willing to offer a help in hand in order to have the best experience in London (if it is your first time knowing the city).
I'm very grateful for all the attention both Saad and Andrew offered me. They were the kind of people you want to spend your afternoon with. Sometimes they invited me to share some meal or a cup of tea and during my working hours they were aware of whatever I may needed. By the way, the work is not from another universe, they have the equipment and tools to help you do the work properly and you just have to be sure to have a well organised schedule.I enjoyed so much working in their garden! (and also removing painting from their stairs).
I had the opportunity to travel to the city every day and get to know many of the touristic places of London and I also spent some days in the house and it was also great. I really felt part of the family and that is something that I won't forget. I felt safe, listened to and accompanied with them.
I definitely would like to meet them again.

It was a total pleasure to host Vlad. He was our first workawayer and we were wondering how the experience would be: little did we realise that we would find such a kind and helpful new friend.
Vlad is very professional and thoughtful with regards to his work and a very sensitiive and considerate person to share a house with. We enjoyed may great… read more dinners and evenings together and Vlad very much became a part of the Earlham family. Vlad put his skills to use in a variety of tasks from french polishing antique furniture, to hanging pictures, stripping paint from the staircase, repainting doors and painting and decorating doors. He is quickly able to understand the task and appreciate what we were trying to achieve, and was independently able to look up youtube videos and websites to figure out the best way of achieving our vision. He has a very good eye for detail and we really appreciated his contribution towards making our unruly house feel more homely. With his expertise in mens clothing and design he also helped me to redesign my wardrobe and help me understand how to dress better and more sustainably.
Rather than simply doing the work, Vlad was an equal participant in helping us decide what was right for the house and which tasks needed to be prioritised.We really miss Vlad (and the weekly pizza evening he would treat us too!) - he was such a wonderful presence around the house. I really hope he will come to visit us again soon ! In the meantime - if you are approached by Vlad for a potential work away then consider yourself lucky and jump at the opportunity!
