Stacee and her amazing family treated me with love, support and nothing but positivity from day one. My trip through California has been my personal medicine, and I'm so grateful for having had the opportunity to stay with and become part of the Gillelen
… read more family. From sharing wonderful meals and deep conversations, to going on mini adventures, listening to country songs and working together, I will forever cherish every single day of this experience with Mark, Stacee, and my four newfound siblings, Bryn, Sabine, Jake, and Stéphane.
Teaching, working in the studio, and having Stacee as a mentor really inspired me to get out my comfort zone and grow both as an artist and a person. The rest of the staff in Stacee's business was also open, welcoming and super helpful - there was always someone to help me out while I was still learning the ropes. I learned so much about teaching, working with children and art education during these few weeks, it's almost unbelievable.
I could honestly go on and on about how amazing it's been to get to know these amazing souls, but I already cried twice trying to write this short little feedback, so I'll just say thank you again. The impact you had on my life has been more than a blessing.

Nearly two month ago a knocked on the door of this beautiful family’s home. I must admit that I was a little nervous. It took 2 seconds and Stacees welcoming hug to feel like home and a day to thinking I live in my second family‘s home.

… read more memories, unique experiences and deep conversations that we shared.
What I know is that I’ve been very lucky to stay with these warm hearted and generous people who not only provided the best workaway experiences I could have hoped for but also became family.
On top of everything they welcomed my friend Lennart with open arms and took us on the best culinary trip ever throughout San Francisco :). We are already planning our next trip back to you!
Moreover, Stacee’s business provides various opportunities for workaway volunteers to help and learn so many different things. For me as a teacher, it was the perfect place to be and learn for my future. The staff was very welcoming and fun to work with and it never got boring. I am so very grateful for all the experiences that I was able to make and know that I will benefit so much from them in future, too.

This summer I got into the adventure of going to California by my own to live a month and a half with the Gillelen family.
From the moment I arrived, I became a member of their large family.
Stacee and Mark are exemplary parents, they have raised four great children.

Giana, she was always willing to help and make plans with Carla, Marilou and me. We have lots of things in common and it was great sharing moments with her.
Bryn is very chill and attentive. She can make you laugh in any moment and is always ready to help as well.
Sabine is a really nice and natural girl. She is very mature and it was incredible to talk about so many things with her while also having fun.
Jake, he is a very smart, active and friendly boy that soon became like a young brother. We shared lots of moments playing cards, at the beach, fishing, cooking... He is very engaging and if you have the opportunity to meet him you will definitely fall in love!
Mark is a great dad, husband, host and person. He was very attentive during all my stay and a good friend too. We shared lots of things about our families and roots and it was great to spend time with him.
Stacee is a clear definition of a superheroine. She is a very inspiring woman and is always ready to share her good vibes with everyone. She is literally the most smiley person I have ever met. We spend a lot of time together, both of us are passionate about nature and we shared so many moments hiking, talking for so long... She was like a mom and a close friend at the same time. I'm sure that our friendship will stay forever.
All of them form a great family and I hope to meet them again soon.
Related to the volunteering , I have only great words to say. Working with kids is really inspiring and if you love art and thinking outside the box, this job will be a great experience!! I'm so proud of this business. I consider that creativity is on of the most important skills to develop in children. Here they have the chance to be free and creative, anyone is going to judge or mark their creations and they are taught to be respectful and kind. Kids can express their self and emotions through art and that's so beautiful to see.

Since March 1st we've had the honor and pleasure of sharing our lives, home and hearts with an exceptional group of 19-23 year old kids from around the world. Italy :flag_it: France :flag_fr: & Spain :flag_es: (Basque) (France wins for most represented with 3 WorkAway guests). It's with a heavy heart that I said my last good bye for the summer today. :cry:
These kids have become my family and I will love them forever & look forward to seeing all that they accomplish in their lives. I've been blown away by their kind & open hearts, adventurous nature, work ethic, positivity and determination to achieve their personal goals in life. They are who I wish I was when I was their age.
Davide, Chloé, Anne, Carla & Marilou have each come to stay for a minimum of a month but most have stayed longer. For the past month and a half we've had 9 of us living under one roof and it's been incredible. I want to share some highlights of our time together.
Big family dinners, laughter, Nutsy, connect 4, squeezing 9 people into a single hotel room, Lake Tahoe, white water rafting, spiders, Muir Woods, Golden Gate Bridge, whale sightings, Cuban sandwiches, turning 21, San Francisco, Yosemite, mist trail & Nevada falls - (you all made it!!), pizza & margaritas, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, David Lynch, podcasts :weary::joy:, food, food, food, Cards against humanity, Los Angeles, Santa Monica Pier, San Diego, beaches, boogie boarding, pools, hot tubs, fishing, long walks, long talks, sharing, hugs, kisses, family.
We all absolutely love & adore each and every one of you and we are counting the minutes until we can see each of you again.

They welcome us as their kids or sisters, they share their daily life, laughters, thoughts, beliefs, dinners (YUMMY DINNERS THANKS TO THE INCREDIBLE COOKERS: STACEE, MARK AND JAKE THE BAKER!!!! Thanks again! Especially because we were vegetarians and that could be a challenge ! ), games, travels, experiences, wisdom and so on. We have had the UNBELIEVABLE chance to know them and share a part of our summer with them, a part of our life. They brighten up our whole life ! They inspire us so much ! We've learned so much about family, life and ourselves. That experience was UNIQUE. They definitevely know how to be a beautiful and loving family ! Even today, it's difficult for us to imagine that the experience is over, we just cant wait to come back and share others moments with them ! They became part of our life and family FOREVER !
Giana, Brynn, Sabyn and Jake were amazing with us. We share that beautiful moments working or enjoying life, playing card games, eating AMAZING brunch, watching Game of Thrones all together, going into amazing places like Santa Cruz and wathing movies outdoors on the beach, singing and dancing on country music in the car, challenging ourselves hiking in Yosemite, chilling and laughing in so many swimming pools and hottubs and so on. Really, we can't even put those experiences and beautiful souvenirs into words. You have to live it to get the point. SO IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE A PART OF YOUR LIFE WITH THIS FAMILY, JUMP INTO THAT AMAZING ADVENTURE.

My entire staff of teachers completely enjoyed working with Chloe and had nothing but positive feedback regarding her work ethic. She was able to connect with the children in our art programs and ensure everyone was well cared for, artistic and having a fun experience.
Thank you dear Chloe for being a part of our family. We miss you every day and we cannot wait to see you again in France!

Davide truly set the bar so high, that I'm not sure it could ever be reached. Through this experience, I can say that Davide became a lifelong friend of mine and of each miner of our family of 6.

… read more absolute pleasure to be around. He brought so much love, joy, laughter & happiness into our home. He has left a large hole since he left. Two weeks after Davide left our home in SF, California, my eldest daughter & I had the opportunity to visit him and his entire family in Italy. Our family plans to visit his family again next summer.
Our home isn't the same without you Davide. We miss you!
I would highly recommend Davide for his friendship & company as well as the extremely professional and beautiful videos he produced for my small business.

Honestly the only defect I found is that in their house the time go so fast! I wanted to stay more and unfortunately my experience is already finished. I didn't find only a workawayer where have an experience, I found a new family that gave me millions experience..

If you will have an opportunity, go to their family. You will never have regrets, I garantee.
