  Beschreibung

  Following in the footsteps of our ancestors and teachers from the past, we continue walking the path of sustainability, environmental justice, and cultural preservation through traditional practices and disciplines, alongside research and awareness programs and the development of a library to grant accessible knowledge.
  
  Our great-grandmothers’ and great-grandfathers’ lands have endured centuries of war, occupation, and colonisation. We honour their sacrifices and struggles to exist amidst the constant displacement and shifting realities since 1936, and in the years following the partition of Bilad Al-Sham and Palestine.
  
  Through the rootedness of the old olive trees that grow on our great-grandmother’s land, on a hilltop in Iqlim al-Kharroub, in the southern Chouf, south of Beirut, we become more deeply interconnected with our motherland, until we become one with its people in their struggle and healing. We seek to protect this land and help restore the hereditary gap caused by the coloniser’s violent war of erasure.
  
  The decision to cut ourselves off from the consumerist and coloniser strong hold that is gripping our families and people into forgetting their past present and future, causing never ending confusion and insecurity between families and individuals. From deep within we know the answers lay beneath the earth with our great grand parents, the roots that forever grow beyond the boarders that shape our daily life and movement today. Our right to be standing in the face of this colonial empire occupation and its war on our cultural heritage and land is rooted in our very existence, yet sustaining the momentum without burning out is easier said than done.
  
  Communities like are not common in the south but remain more prevalent in the north of the country, We've already introduced and replenished enough of what was lost in a village life that we have been accepted and given a final chance to continue our mission and movement towards cultural reawakening in the area. Through medicinal and sustainable alternatives, music, craft, history, tradition, and sincerity we give way for a space unlike any other in the south.

  Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

  We’re Farah, a multidisciplinary artist, and Mohammad, a musician and teacher — creating a space where art, craft, and music meet.
  
  Workawayers can explore local culture and sites, fabric arts (weaving, tufting, sewing) and try musical instruments from around the world. We love sharing what we know — from creative techniques to everyday village life and simple, natural living.
  
  Cultural exchange here happens naturally: through music, food, and shared help. You’ll also meet our dogs, baba Roxy, mama Loulou, Bouba, Tiro, and Shamsiyye. In addition to abo shanab the cat who is also part of the family.
  
  Every guest brings their own rhythm, story, and inspiration — and together, we learn new ways to create and live.

  Arbeit

  As we put the finishing touches on the space and prepare for our launch and opening gathering, we’re especially looking for help with:
  
  1. Cooking and Kitchen Care — Preparing daily meals and helping keep the kitchen running.
  2. Woodworking and Building — Helping with furniture, shelving, repairs, and final construction tasks.
  3. Garden and Animal Care — Looking after the garden, plants, and our two rescued dogs.
  4. Cleaning and General Assistance — Helping us organize, clean both space and surrounding, and prepare it for visitors and activities.
  5. Organization and Documentation — Supporting preparations, documenting the process, and helping us get ready for the opening event.
  6. Artistic and Creative Contributions/ Collaborations — Wall painting, music, crafts, installations, workshops, or any other creative ideas you’d like to bring to the space.
  
  We hope to make the place more eco-conscious, inspire and spread awareness through encounters, events and gatherings as we finish up the space.

  We’re studying and playing Afghan music, and learning Dari and Persian would help us connect more deeply with its culture and poetry. In exchange, we’re happy to share Arabic — both the language and the spirit of local expression.

  Unterkunft

  Volunteers stay in a cozy shared room that fits up to three people. You’re also welcome to bring your own tent and set it up around the house.
  
  The property is fenced, with three connected land areas and a three-story building.
  • The ground floor is used by the owner’s family.
  • The first floor is the calm space. It includes sleeping arrangements for both volunteers and residents, the afghan treasure room (only open during music times of the day, afghan performances, practice, and lessons, a bookable main private kitchen for events and seasonal produce, and showers.
  • The rooftop loft is a gathering and creative area — home to the workshop, shared kitchen, musical instruments, and seating spaces where we gather, play, and create.
  
  Special arrangement if needed can be discussed ahead of time.
  
  A variety of vegetarian ingredients will always be available in the kitchen.

  **Getting Here:**
  If you’re arriving directly from the airport, tell us ahead of time — the ride takes about one hour and costs around $30.
  You can also book your own private taxi, but it will likely cost double. If we’re not available at the time, we can send our trusted taxi driver for a fair rate.
  
  If you’re coming from Beirut, the easiest way is to go to Cola Station and take any bus or van heading to Chehim Village, then we’ll arrange your drive to the house.
  
  The taxi we work with usually charges $10 for the trip from the highway to the house (or back) for any trips you'd like to do afterward.
  
  Early or on the spot communication can always suggest possible carpooling options.
  
  **Time Off:**
  During your free time, you’re welcome to explore all the tools in our workshop — from fabric arts and tufting to sewing and musical instruments. We’re happy to guide you if needed.
  
  You can also spend time with our dogs, Roxy and Loulou, or simply relax and enjoy the surroundings.
  
  For exploring the local area, there’s an electric bike available for your use. For grocery trips or visits to nearby towns, we can arrange a drop-off, or you can use the tuk-tuk or taxi. From the highway, it’s easy to access Beirut, Chouf, and other nearby regions.

  **Respecting the Space**
  
  Out of respect for the spirit of the place and the local community, this is an alcohol- and drug-free environment — we aim to keep the energy clear, grounded, and peaceful.
  
  Smoking is fine when done outdoors, discreetly whenever children are present, or openly in the evening within the designated open and well-ventilated gathering areas.
