**COVID-19 Update**
I am now accepting guests again as restrictions have been relaxed in Queensland. However, I take the virus risks very seriously and will ask all guests to do the same. Any loss of income due to quarantine would be disastrous for myself and the farm. You will be allowed to do whatever you like on your days off, but you must follow all Queensland restrictions, practice social distancing and take great care with your personal hygiene. If I feel that guests are being reckless, I will end the hosting arrangement immediately.

I bought my home in Darra five years ago and I'm excited about continuing to develop it as a suburban permaculture farm. I need some help with ongoing projects, social media and video production and maintaining the farm. Jobs include creating compost, building new garden beds, animal care (goats, geese, ducks, chooks, bees and cats) and yard work. If you're interested in permaculture, I'll happily teach you about the principles and practical skills. I also enjoy cooking and making fermented food and drinks (like sourdough, kombucha, kimchi, sauerkraut) and can teach you techniques and share the spoils! The area is close to bushland, friendly and multicultural. Kangaroos can be seen behind the back fence and there's lots of native birdlife around. There are spare bicycles to use and the local shops and train are a short walk/cycle away.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

You will learn about permaculture, community-sufficiency, and low impact living. I cook delicious vegetarian food (or vegan if required), and I'm happy to teach you new meals and techniques. I have a car and can show you around the region on my days off and teach you about living in Brisbane. You would learn about urban farming in a subtropical climate, animal care, composting, and so much more. I like to have little craft afternoons where we make things like homemade toiletries (toothpaste, deodorant, moisturiser) and natural cleaning products. I can also teach you to knit and sew.
Nearby you can walk through beautiful forest, dip your feet in the creek and visit local Vietnamese restaurants. The area is close to bushland, friendly and multicultural. Kangaroos can be seen behind the back fence, if you're lucky, you can spot a local dingo or platypus and there's lots of native birdlife around.Arbeit
I need help expanding the permaculture garden and caring for the goats, chooks, geese and other animals. It would be fantastic if you have permaculture experience but not essential. General building experience would also be great, but not essential. A willingness to learn and to live a low impact life is really all you need. My project is more than just a hobby, I am building a way of life. I run my suburban permaculture farm as a demonstration site and education centre, teaching people how to live a low impact life with what they already have - so you'll get the chance to really help contribute to something big!
I work a four days a week to bring in enough money to feed the animals and pay the mortgage but I'm working on the farm on the other days (COVID-19 NOTE - I am currently away from home more regularly as my work is considered essential at this time). Ideally, there would be a couple of longer days when the weather allows (5 or 6 hours with breaks during the hottest parts of the day). There's always the daily chores which take about than an hour in the morning and half an hour in the evening each day during the week (feeding animals, walking the goats, collecting eggs, watering the plants). Cleaning up after yourself is not included in the 25 hours; that’s just being a decent human. You're welcome to take 2-3 days off per week, just let me know in advance so I can plan.
I choose to live a very low impact life. This involves composting, reducing my waste, collecting local food waste from stores, trying to bring very little plastic into the home, collecting water etc. The farm doesn’t generate any real income as I mostly swap things I grow for other food. Any cash I get from selling eggs, honey or vegetables goes to the high cost of animal feed and bedding.
Upcoming projects include:
- building a fire pit and paving
- upgrading the market garden tunnel
- building a new chicken house
- planting out the food forest
- filming short instructional videos
I would love to host guests with basic carpentry/building skills, experience with wood fired oven building or videography/film skills.Sprachen

Darra is a multicultural suburb, about 15km from the city centre. I host a long term intern (Hannah is currently in the intern role) and have a garden hermit called Simon who lives in a little backyard cabin; we share our space with goats, chickens, geese, ducks and two cats. As the intern is in the double room, we have one single room available. You would have your own room and a shared bathroom. The room is comfortable, with a single bed and everything else you'd need.
Food is included - it's help yourself for breakfast and lunch but usually for evening meals I cook for us (or you're welcome to cook if you like); ingredients for breakfast and lunch are readily available for self-catering. It's a vegetarian home so no meat in the house. There is also no smoking in the house or on the farm. Was noch ...
