Hello! My name is Vincent and I'm part of a small team working with nature in the wonderful mountains of Mpumalanga, South Africa.

Our project seeks to establish a lifestyle of health and well being through holistic practices powered by self sustainable methods and technologies. This self sustainable green machine will provide the platform for our Yoga retreats and other workshops.

The self sustainable ideal initiated with a volunteer project in January 2015. This includes living completely off of the land and the resources the earth provides us. We already have mineral rich water straight from a mountain spring, perfect for all our water needs, a covered nursery and greenhouse for organic, non-GMO fruit and veg and our own solar power.

The project is now ready to support a holistic way of living for volunteers and visitors interested in yoga, meditation, retreats. There is an outdoor yoga deck with a breathtaking view, meditation by the rocky river pools, guided waterfall hikes (with mountain goats!), luxury cottages by the river, rustic hiker cabins up the mountain (volunteer area).

We have 2 dogs, 1 cat and 3 mountain goats who all have vital roles within the project and are much loved members of the family. Trying to live in harmony with nature as much as possible is our aim, and anyone who can help us with this ideal is more than welcome!

The hiker cabins are in a conservation area and our nearest town is Waterval Boven; National Geographic has named the area one of the top 5 places in the world for rock climbing! The closest city is Nelspruit, situated 90 km away.

We will all share in the household tasks, namely cooking and cleaning. All volunteers cook communally together unless we take turns in the kitchen. It very important for all volunteers to be able to plan and prepare a meal, this ability is not required immediately but it is the crucial ‘first skill’ for all volunteers.

Cooking is the first and last thing volunteers do for each other every day, it’s is the basic building block for all other activities and the foundation of every project. If you are unable to contribute in this area, please let us know.

Volunteers will also learn anything regarding off grid and sustainable living, knowledge about the wildlife and the fauna and flora on the mountain.

We are looking for volunteers who have specific skills, but first and foremost we ask for is that they are adaptable to off grid living since this lifestyle is challenging but rewarding. You will be participating in a variety of tasks and projects and maybe even start up a new project of your own.

As we are a small community on the mountain, we ask for easy going, open minded people as we all live and work together! We like the idea of people travelling here and immersing themselves in nature and the incredible scenery. We will happily accompany you on hikes and show you the many beautiful waterfalls on the land that we are fortunate to call home.

We prefer longer term commitments from our volunteers because there's so much variety in what we do and it takes a while to become accustomed to the lifestyle. As I've mentioned we have so many different projects in motion such as providing solar energy to the camp, maintaining the greenhouse and nursery and expanding our cultivating operation, trailblazing pathways in the reserve, wood chopping, construction of natural buildings and refurbishing existing ones, artistic help with painting and signmaking, creating murals in the camp embodying the ideals of the project and the beauty of the area.

Assistance with retreats and workshops, specifically yoga retreats which we will be hosting on a monthly basis soon. We are very interested in volunteers with experience in teaching yoga, meditation and other holistic practices. This is part of our primary objective with the project which is health an well being.

We are 2 hours drive away from the Numbi Gate entrance to Kruger National Park, and also 2 hours drive from the Swaziland border. Blyde River Canyon and God's Window is nearby and as we're located near the N4 we are directly on the way for those looking to travel on to Mozambique.

There is rock climbing are situated in a mountain canyon where you will find one of the best rock climbing areas in the country and in the top 10 globally. There is also some great mountain biking, hiking and walking trails. There is also opportunity to travel to see the 'Big Five' in the Kruger Park, God's Window in Blyde River canyon, Greengold in Swaziland and the Archipelagos of Mozambique.

We have stone circles everywhere hinting at something truly bizarre about the history of humanity on earth. Follow up with this at the Stone Circle Bistro in the town of Waterval Boven where Michael Tellinger exhibits several artefacts along with two of his books, DVD's and more on the subject.

The valley is steeped in history from the time of the Boer war during the 1900's. The kloof (gorge) and slopes of the valley once housed President Paul Kruger's Commandos during the period of his escape to exile via Lourenco Marques (Maputo). Old Martini Henry rifle shells and enamel mugs used by the Boer soldiers and Scouts are sometimes unearthed on the property.

Nourished by the Joubert Spruit tributary of the Elands River, the natural water supply is fountain fed from the mountain tops and of the highest quality. At no stage during the past 60 years has the stream ever dried up. The Nature Reserve is ecologically contained and home to many species of fauna e.g. Bushbuck, Baboon, Klipspringer, Duiker, Steenbok, Vaal Reedbuck, Vervet Monkeys, Leopard, Genet, Rooikat, Rock Pythons etc. Bird life includes, Black Eagle, Steppe Buzzard, Kites and Falcon.
