👋 Who We Are
• Miguel (42, Portuguese): Law professor/lawyer, seasoned Workaway host (some volunteers stayed 3+ years as paid workers!). Easygoing, loves singing, and has a great sense of humour!
• Myself, Miguel’s partner, Deimante: 32, Lithuanian, life coach, passionate about personal development and health optimization. Also love singing, dancing and creating inspirational content. Moved in recently, learning Portugese and helping with the household management.
• Bilbo (male dog) literally showed up at our doorstep, lost. He is 6 years old, 28 kilos and is very smart, docile and protective. He gets along immediately with everyone, but is unaware of how big he is!
• Leia (female dog) is a 9 year old princess, who has been with us since she was a puppy. She loves running, playing, taking naps, and more running around! She has endless energy, is very scaredy and it takes a looong time and dedication to get her trust.
• Isabel (Portuguese): our superstar housekeeper who helps us to manage the home, cleaning and cooking.
Core philosophy: Dogs are family (they sleep on beds!), and we value shared living with open-minded people.
🏠 Your Accommodation
• Private bedroom and bathroom in your room (shared kitchen, living room).
• There’s also a possibility for you to stay in a smaller separate house on our property.
🏞️ Property highlights:
• Live in a serene, nature-filled retreat near Porto.
• Waterfall, old watermill, and scenic walking trails.
• 4.5 hectares of forests, fruit trees, and a private riverfront.
• Remote but accessible (30-min walk to train station, 10-min drive to nearest city).
• At home gym / dumbells / barbell / elliptical bike
• Outdoor Pool / Hammock.
🛠️ Daily Work & Help
• Working hours: 4 hours/day, 5 days/week (schedule can be agreed/flexible).
• Dog care (playing, walking, cuddling—Leia & Bilbo are rescue dogs who need love, especially when we are not around).
• Land maintenance (forest cleanup, wood chopping and organising, lawn mowing, removing weeds, fruit picking)
• Other projects/ad hoc tasks depending on your skills and our needs.
• We are always open to suggestions of ways to improve the land/house/living more sustainably.
💡Other Projects & Opportunities
• We have an old chicken coop from previous owners, thinking of getting chickens, yet neither of us have animal farming experience
• Gardening (there’s a small vegetable garden someone has started, but no one is looking after it)
• There’s 2 more houses on the property that need small repairs and organizing.
• Small Oak trees to be replanted to a different part of the property.
Bonus skills: Driving (car provided), farming, landscaping, fitness/nutrition.
🍽️ Food & Meals
• Groceries provided for your own cooking.
• Shared meals: Occasional lunches/dinners together.
Note: We regularly eat meat and fish but happily provide plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and staples. Vegan/vegetarian volunteers are welcome - we just ask you to supplement with your preferred protein sources. Our kitchen is fully equipped for your use!

Must-haves:
• Dog lovers (rescue experience a plus!).
• Love to share your bed with the dogs—they may join you when we're away (though they usually sleep with us).
• Comfort with rural solitude and farm tasks.
• Non-smoking (cigarette smell is a no-go).
• Openness to nudity/casual attire (we tan/swim naked and walk in underwear at home).
• Proactive, open-minded and friendly attitude.
Nice-to-Have: Creativity, health/fitness passion, sustainability interest.

We need help with taking care of our dogs, land and home!
With six dogs, there is always something to do. Our land is very big and needs lots of care: watering, planting, caring, collecting wood, chopping, cleaning forest & paths, moving sand and soil, etc. It's the kind of place where there are always new projects that can be done.
