Beschreibung
We're a little family who enjoy meeting new people for mutual sharing, growth and broadening perspectives. We prioritize community-building, learning and exchange and care for the earth. We'd love to have you join us for a little or a long time (once we've estabished a good fit).
We live in rural Nova Scotia near the beautiful Bay of Fundy. We love nature and a wide range of outdoor activities. We garden, camp, bike, swim in the Bay (brrrrr) and love to share fresh local food foraged and grown on the land.
We are coming into the planting season with seeds to sow and a garden to tend, etc. - we would love your help with a variety of tasks based on your skill set and passions. Common needs for us include: gardening support, home repairs/basic maintenance, playing, house cleaning, cooking, child care, pet care, community projects, etc. If you're willing to pitch-in in a variety of big and small ways, and are fun loving and kind we are keen to hear from you.
Accommodation is in a cozy off-grid strawbale house in the woods, aka the Treehuggers Timeshare. You'll have a tranquil place to yourself - about 6 km from where we live. Perfect for a couple, small family or someone who enjoys their own, quiet space. Children and pets welcome. Your closest neighbours 1 horse and a pony; horse back riding and horse tending could be part of the experience.
There are lots of opportunity for outdoor recreation in the area. We enjoy sharing meals and hearing about your life. This is a great opportunity if you're looking to unplug for a bit and enjoy (or want to try on) rural life on the Atlantic coast. Families welcome. We are German speakers so can offer language practice. We are learning Spanish and striving to improve our French. Your own vehicle is required as we are not on a transit route). 7-day minimum commitment requested. Longer term stays a possibility.

We are a German and English speaking family that has been living in Nova Scotia since the mid-seventies. Widely travelled internationally (speaking some French, Portuguese and now learning Spanish) we are comfortable with people from all walks of life and are excited to show you our little piece of paradise. We can have picnics on the beach, show you for hikes on a variety of trails, share local food and food ideas and connect you to areas and topics of interest (we love fostering connection to the many great places and people in our region).

Arbeit
Our needs are varied so this opportunity could suit many skill sets and interests. Attitude is more important than apptitude for this arrangement. Priorities would be: help with basic maintenance around home and garden, but also cooking and house cleaning, possibly some child care. Also harvesting and preserving, depending on the when you're here. There is also the possibility of getting involved with some community initiatives, depending on timing.

We are curious about languages and will try to learn words and phrases in your language. We're especially excited for German speakers to give us opportunity to practice, but we welcome all languages into our home.
Unterkunft
Imagine falling asleep to the sound of a babbling brook inside a cozy strawbale cottage situated in a clearing inside a mixed forest with grassy and mossy lanes to wander through. You'll have your own private space - hosts live 6 km away on another property. You'll be off-grid with minimal electricity. Composting toilet, and no indoor plumping. A great place to unplug and unwind (i.e. no internet at the strawbale house, but available at hosts' home). Ideal for those looking to unplug and connect to nature.

If you like nature and exploring forest and beaches, this is the spot for you. There are plenty of trails within easy reach including along the rugged Bay of Fundy coastline. From the Annapolis Valley there is also easy access to vibrant communities and lots of site seeing (nature, heritage, farms and eateries, cultural experiences). We have horses too, so if riding and horse care is your thing that could be arranged (depends on experience).
Bikes available - may need some maintenance. Your own vehicle is highly recommended. We are 15 km from the nearest town and no public transit. Occasional trips to town could be arranged but your mobility would be very limited without a vehicle.
We have a busy life working at an adult learning centre and running nature programs. Judy is doing her Masters in counselling too, but we prioritize time for being outside, exploring the beaches and trails, and connecting with community. We enjoy sharing food and sharing work - life is simply better with healthy food, good company and a helping hand. We believe we all have things to learn from one another and we prioritize deep listening, kindness and playfulness.

There is no internet at the Treehuggers Timeshare but some access available from the host's home and in town at cafe's and libraries. Hi volume downloads and frequent internet access through the day not a good fit.

My stay with Judy and Manu was so nice ! Judy is a beautiful and gentle mom, and Manu is bright, funny and full of life .
