STOP PRESS. We have vacancies for up to 3 volunteers from 11th April onwards (not July) so drop us a line if you might be interested in joining us for 3 weeks (15 days).
Hola! We are Ed (Canadian) and June (British), living in the beautiful countryside 25 minutes from Sucre, Bolivia. The land measures 10.5 acres and has 360 degree views of the Andean mountains. We were backpacking through South America when we landed in Sucre, Bolivia, fell in love with the Colonial city and the surrounding countryside and decided to relocate from France.
June is a writer/property developer and Ed a project manager/constructor. We built our home from adobe and stone and ran it as a boutique hotel for four years before changing course to create a small urbanisation, selling plots of land to people wanting to live in the countryside.
We have been hosting Workawayers since June 2010 and have enjoyed sharing travel stories over meals and in some cases making lifetime friends. We have new and exciting projects continually emerging and would like to invite workawayers age 25+ to help us for a minimum of 15 working days (ie not including weekends). The work is mostly gardening and general maintenance but there are always other projects available from time to time. Let us know what your skills/interests are!
We love enthusiastic and creative helpers who are physically fit and ready to tackle anything that needs doing. An ability to function independently when not working is also essential and we regret that we do not have the time for extensive training.
We have a 16 year old Siamese cat called Sumaq which means handsome in Quechua, the local indigenous language, who will take any amount of love from anyone who stays with us. We have just added Rayo, a 1 year old golden retriever to our family who loves anyone who will play/walk/cuddle up him.

We enjoy sharing stories of our 15 years living in Bolivia and of our travels in other countries. We can help with navigating the Colonial city of Sucre as well as Potosi and Uyuni. We are happy to help with English and Spanish if that is not your first language - June used to be a EFL/TEFL teacher to students of different languages.
Arbeit
We are looking for 2 or 3 volunteers at any one time age 25+ (not negotiable) with basic English and some Spanish, to help us with gardening, organic farming, land-clearing, fencing, greenhouse-building and irrigation. People with experience in these areas are particularly welcome as are volunteers who are happy to do general maintenance, painting and general upgrading of building structures.
Daily hours vary but do not exceed 25 a week. We try to give volunteers two consecutive days off each week to allow for an overnight stay in Sucre or to visit Potosi, the highest city in the world.
Breakfast and lunch (the main meal of the day in Bolivia) are provided on working days as well as tea late afternoon if you are around. An evening meal is not eaten in Bolivia and if required is the responsibility of volunteers - there are several cheap local shops nearby selling everything you would need for basic meals and snacks as well as fast food options in the evening for around $1 US.

Unterkunft
Our volunteers are housed in an adobe cottage close to the main house. There is a bedroom with space for up to 3 beds, a kitchen/dining/living room and a bathroom. The kitchen area has a stove and a fridge/freezer with table and chairs in the living area.

There are beautiful walks from our property with stunning views of the Andes mountains. You can also walk down to small shops and snack bars nearby for a cold drink at the end of the day. Colonial Yotala is a 45 minute walk away or a 10 min bus ride, with shady plazas and a lively Sunday scene with a chance to try the famous Yotala roast pork.
The colonial city of Sucre (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) is accessible by regular daytime mini buses, stopping a 15 minute walk from our property. There are plenty of museums, bars and restaurants and some interesting nightclubs should you wish to stay in Sucre on your days off. Potosi, the highest city in the world, is a 3 hour bus ride where you can take a tour of the mines and visit the Money Museum. Tarabuco is a small rural town with an indigenous market every Sunday - a good place to buy weavings and other souvenirs.

Ben and Sarah were welcome volunteers in the early days of our project. Ben's skill as a tree surgeon came in particularly handy helping us to train the few unruly trees on our land. They also worked hard on starting the foundations for the toilet/shower block, helping to upgrade the volunteers' campsite.

We really enjoyed having Alicia to stay with us. She was very enthusiastic, digging ditches in the hot sun and making adobe bricks. She really surprised our Bolivian workers with her soccer skills - they had never seen a woman playing football before! An excellent all round volunteer.
