About us
Hello! My name is Gabriela and I run a small, family-friendly language school in Bučovice, a welcoming Czech town only 30 minutes from Brno.
For more than 15 years we have been helping children, teenagers and adults enjoy learning languages through communication, creativity and real-life experiences. Our school is small, which allows us to know every student personally and create a friendly atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.
We are looking for native or fluent English speakers who would like to become part of our teaching team while experiencing everyday life in the Czech Republic.
📚 Semester English Teacher (September–February / February–June)
We offer paid teaching positions for one full semester.
You will teach small groups of up to six students, including children, teenagers and adults. Lessons last 60 minutes and usually take place in the afternoons and early evenings, with occasional morning lessons.
We provide:
free accommodation in your own private room in a shared apartment,
payment of 300 CZK per 60-minute lesson (above the Czech minimum wage),
fully equipped classrooms with teaching materials and printing facilities,
support with lesson planning,
a friendly international teaching team.
You don't need to prepare everything on your own. We plan together, share ideas and support each other throughout the semester.
🌞 Summer English Camp (July)
Every July we organise two weeks of English Summer Camp for primary school children.
Each camp has a different theme. Children learn English through projects, teamwork, games, sports and creative activities rather than traditional lessons.
As part of our team, you help children communicate naturally in English while helping alongside our Czech teachers. Activities include project tasks, swimming, baseball, football, tennis, treasure hunts, nature games and many other outdoor activities.
All hours worked during the camp are paid.
Cultural exchange
Although we are a language school, cultural exchange is one of the most important parts of staying with us.
We don't see our teachers simply as employees. We invite them to become part of our school community and everyday Czech life.
During your stay you can:
experience life in a friendly Czech small town,
meet local families, children and students,
learn about Czech traditions and culture,
visit nearby Brno, castles, historical towns and beautiful countryside,
travel easily around the Czech Republic and Central Europe,
take part in school events and local celebrations,
share your own culture and language with our students.
Many of our former teachers stay in touch with us for years and return to visit again. We hope you'll feel like part of our school family rather than just a visitor. -

Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten
Travellers who join us experience everyday life in a real Czech community, not just as tourists. Bučovice is a friendly small town where people know each other, making it easy to meet local families, students and teachers and experience Czech culture from the inside.
By teaching in our language school, you'll gain practical classroom experience, develop your teaching skills and become more confident helping with preschool children, school students, teenagers and adults. You'll also discover how language education works in the Czech Republic while exchanging ideas with our experienced teaching team.
Cultural exchange is at the heart of our project. Our students love meeting people from different countries, hearing different English accents and learning about everyday life, traditions and customs around the world. We encourage our teachers to share their culture, hobbies and experiences during lessons, making every class a genuine exchange rather than just language instruction.
In return, we hope you'll discover Czech traditions, food, history and local life. We are happy to recommend places to visit, local events, walking and cycling routes, castles and historical towns. Brno is only 30 minutes away by train, and Prague, Vienna and Bratislava are all perfect destinations for weekend trips.
We are a small language school, so teamwork is very important to us. We regularly meet to share ideas, discuss lessons and support one another. We welcome creativity and encourage teachers to bring their own activities, games and ideas into the classroom.
Most importantly, we hope you'll become part of our school community. Many of our teachers stay in touch with us long after their placement ends, and some return to teach with us again. We want every Workawayer to feel welcome, supported and included throughout their stay in the Czech Republic. -

What will you do?
We offer two different opportunities depending on the time of year.
🌞 Summer English Camp (2 weeks in July)
You'll become part of our international teaching team, helping alongside our Czech teachers during our English Summer Camp.
Your role may include:
encouraging children to communicate naturally in English,
joining conversations, games and role plays,
supporting creative classroom activities,
helping with project-based learning,
taking part in sports and outdoor activities,
assisting with excursions and swimming,
helping children gain confidence in speaking English.
Every summer camp has a different theme. Previous projects have included entrepreneurship, nature, teamwork and creative workshops. We plan the programme together, and you'll always help as part of a supportive team.
📚 Semester English Teacher (September–February / February–June)
We are looking for enthusiastic English teachers who enjoy helping with learners of all ages.
Your responsibilities
Depending on the timetable and your experience, you may teach:
preschool children,
primary school students,
secondary school students,
adults,
individual lessons,
conversation classes.
We are looking for teachers who are comfortable teaching a variety of age groups and levels, as this gives us the greatest flexibility when planning the timetable.
Lessons are usually 60 minutes long, although some adult conversation classes last 90 minutes.
Teaching takes place mainly Monday to Friday between 1:00 pm and 7:30 pm, with occasional morning lessons.
Groups are small (maximum 6 students), allowing you to build strong relationships with your learners and focus on real communication.
What we provide
Free accommodation in your own private room.
300 CZK per 60-minute lesson (above the Czech minimum wage).
Teaching materials, books, worksheets and printing facilities.
Regular teacher meetings and ongoing support.
A friendly and experienced teaching team.
Who we're looking for
Ideally, you have previous English teaching experience and hold a recognised qualification such as CELTA, TEFL or TESOL.
If you don't have one of these qualifications but have relevant teaching experience and excellent communication skills, we'd still be happy to hear from you. -

Unterkunft
You'll stay in a comfortable, fully furnished apartment in the centre of Bučovice, shared with a maximum of one other teacher.
You'll have your own private bedroom, giving you plenty of space to relax. The other teacher (if there is one) also has their own room. They usually teach during the day and often spend weekends travelling, so the apartment is generally quiet and peaceful.
The apartment includes:
a fully equipped kitchen,
bathroom,
washing machine,
refrigerator,
microwave,
kettle and coffee maker,
high-speed Wi-Fi,
everything you need for comfortable everyday living.
If you are the only international teacher staying with us, you'll have the entire apartment to yourself.
The language school is within walking distance. Supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, parks, sports facilities and the train and bus stations are all nearby.
Bučovice is ideally located for exploring the Czech Republic. Brno, the country's second-largest city, is only about 30 minutes away by train, while Vienna, Bratislava and Prague are all easy weekend destinations. -

Your free time
Bučovice is a safe and friendly town of around 10,000 inhabitants, located just 30 km from Brno, the second-largest city in the Czech Republic. There are frequent trains and buses, and the journey takes only about 30 minutes.
Although we are a small town, there is plenty to do. You can enjoy cafés, restaurants, sports facilities, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, parks and beautiful countryside. We can also lend you a bicycle, which is a great way to explore the surrounding villages and forests.
Only 10 km away is the historic town of Slavkov u Brna (Austerlitz), famous for Napoleon's Battle of the Three Emperors. The South Moravian region is also well known for its vineyards and wine culture, making it a wonderful place to discover local traditions.
Brno has a lively international community, and I'm happy to recommend language exchanges, international meet-ups and other events where you can meet both locals and people from all over the world.
Having travelled extensively myself, I know what it feels like to arrive in a new country where you don't know anyone. That's why I always do my best to help our teachers settle in, feel welcome and enjoy their stay with us.
If you have any questions before or during your stay, I'll always be happy to help.
Payment
We provide:
free accommodation in your own private room, and
300 CZK for each 60-minute lesson taught (which is above the Czech minimum wage).
The exact number of teaching hours depends on the semester timetable and is agreed before your arrival.
Teachers are responsible for their own food expenses during their stay. -
