Beschreibung
Our bilingual school was founded in 1994 by a local mother, and has successfully been teaching children English and Spanish to a high standard ever since, still being run by the same family. The school is private, but this is only to ensure that the kids get the standard of teaching and have the facilities that help their education be the best possible, and not for profit. Many of our children are on scholarships. Most of our children are from Honduras, but we have many from other countries such as Costa Rica, the United States, and even Europe!
The school runs from kindergarten to preparatory through to eleventh grade, and the children leave being able to speak a high level of English which will open up new doors and make new opportunities available that would not be so otherwise. We are the only bilingual school in Tela with native English speakers, and so we rely on the work of volunteers such as yourself to keep the school open and a good English program available for all.
The children all have fantastic personalities, and volunteers find the work enjoyable, rewarding, and ever-changing. We have always, and will always work to make sure that all our teachers, both Honduran and foreign, and our school pupils are happy, and any problems that have arisen have always been resolved.
Tela is a small town, with a beautiful beach, many shops, and a community feel. No knowledge of Spanish is required, but being in a Spanish speaking country gives you plenty of opportunity to practice!Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Arbeit
Volunteers will be working in a bilingual school (English/Spanish) in the coastal town of Tela in northern Honduras. The school day starts at 7am and lasts until 2pm, with some free lessons, and two breaks for recess. Depending on your age, you will be teaching either primary or secondary aged kids subjects in English such as literature, grammar, social studies, and science. All the books are provided for you, and you will follow the curriculum laid out there. We are looking for volunteers who have a high standard of English, who, preferrably, would be able to work for the entire school year (August to early June), and who are happy working with children and with Honduran teachers as part of a close team. The work is rewarding when you see the children learning and their English improving, and there is plenty time after school and at the weekends to go to the beach and visit other nearby towns, although there is enough to do in Tela.

We are excited to learn from different cultures and sharing all the beautiful things Honduras has to offer.Unterkunft
Accommodation is free and provided by the school. Volunteers live in a volunteers' house, close to the school. There are bedrooms, a bathroom with a flushing, western-style toilet, and facilities for showering. There is usually running water in the house, although sometimes it runs dry, and it can be temperamental in the evenings. There is a fridge, a TV (with no aerial) but a DVD player, a living area, and a gas stove with a hob. Accommodation will be shared with normally two other volunteers and is spacial and comfortable. There are pictures of the house on the school's website under facilities. You will also receive an allowance for food and expenses.
The house is situated in Barrio Venecia, a very safe residential area, and there are many shops nearby which sell everything you need to cook! There are a lot of fresh fruit and veg stalls (the fruit is delicious) all for a very good price! There's a Supermarket as well. Was noch ...
Transport is excellent, there is always a taxi available at 40lempiras ($1.60), and excellent bus links to the nearby towns of La Ceiba, El Progreso, and San Pedro Sula, where you can get buses all over Honduras - even to the Guatemalan border!
Most volunteers spend their free time on the beach or exploring nearby sites such as the botanical gardens, and the teachers all get along and might even invite you to join the staff football team! Make sure you get a bike to move around town and a cheap cell phone to communicate.Etwas mehr Information
