Come and enjoy our cascading waterfall as you help create an edible food forest, a Permaculture garden, a renovated Homestead for volunteers, and participate in our food rescue program that feeds many local families who face food insecurity.

We’ve been at this for eight beautiful years! Last year we planted some 500 trees and made significant improvements on our land and market garden. We fed some 60 families at no charge, and look forward to building on these successes in the coming season.

We are a learning community with an focus on curiosity, inquiry and dynamic learning, where all of us become more aware of our deeper purpose, more skillful in our capacity to communicate with each other, and more aware of our solidarity with the Earth. Our mantra is healthy soil, healthy food, healthy people, and a healthy planet. We take time each day to be present with ourselves, and to check in with each other before we begin to work on our daily tasks.

We have an emphasis on creating opportunities for each of our participants to simultaneously focus on what most interests them and to take part in the daily tasks of living in a 200 year old stone building, surrounded by a flowing stream and beautiful vistas.

We are particularly interested in people who enjoy taking a leadership role around work that matters to them. If you are interested in any of the following topics, we’d very much like to hear from you.

This year we are seeking individuals with interest or experience in: first, the market gardening approach of Jean Martin Fortier; second, individuals with skills in social media, who also enjoy being outdoors; third, individuals with construction and maintenance skills, particularly in regard to historic structures; fourth, folks interested in food prep and addressing issues of food insecurity in the local community; sixth, individuals interested in regenerative agriculture and agroforestry with special emphasis on the groundbreaking work of Ernst Gotsch in Brazil who quoted Bach saying, “treat your work as if it’s sacred”.

What that means to us is that when you love what you’re doing it has a way of becoming fun and naturally revealing the next right step, it only requires that we pay attention!

We anticipate that volunteers will spend their time in ways that provide learning opportunities. We prefer a minimum stay of one month, so we have time to get to know each other. We also have the opportunity for extended internships if we both agree that we are a good fit.

An important emphasis of our nonprofit is on education as it relates to planetary and personal well being. We see education as a process of internal development and a simultaneous process of skill building that helps people navigate society effectively and in alignment with their values.

Building connection and coming to know ourselves and each other more clearly is an important part of this process. The mix of shared work experience, informal time and opportunities for personal and shared reflection facilitate these aspirations.

We will set goals with each individual that take into account their personal orientation in ways that support the larger vision of the Center for reGenerative Ecology. We will inquire as to the aspirations of each workaway and do our best to fashion a work and learning program that simultaneously fulfills the Workaway‘s individual needs and contributes to the larger vision of our initiative.

We have two kinds of regular meetings. Weekly community meetings allow us to process our experiences and think together in an open minded learning environment. Project meetings focus on the tasks we are engaged in each week, the know how and resources necessary to fulfill those tasks, any challenges that have come up and progress toward our goals.

Other approaches include regular meals and periodic viewing of a relevant movie with dialogue and discussion. Also field trips to a variety of cultural opportunities in the area including theater, music, museums and historic sites will happen periodically.

We will also meet periodically with the entire team to discuss significant issues as they relate to the situations on the earth today. We have a particular focus on food and the food system as a leverage point for systemic change. Particular topics will be explored such as food security, individual and social health and well being and the capacity to grow nutritious food for a growing population in ways that preserve cultural diversity. All of this will be seen in the light of how local agriculture could impact climate change.

We will eat together regularly and will focus on the well being of various cultures and the potential of a local, organic or Permaculture approach to feed the planet. We will also look at the impact of the industrial food system as it affects so many different areas of life including the health and well-being of individuals, the healthcare system, the environment and climate change.

Our overall emphasis is on the central role of the food system in the life of individuals and cultures and the potential of a reGenerative food system to help mitigate climate change while in the process offering a life and a living for future generations.
