Vom Workawayer (Amanda) für Host
I had a lovely experience at the Cascades during my month-long stay. The inn and property are absolutely beautiful in the summer, and although it was hot there's a nice creek that runs through the property for quick dips during the day. In the evenings we'd often go to the local lake, hang out by a fire, or watch the insane amount of fireflies

I think workawayers who want to be involved with a community and engage with others will get the most out of a stay here. They are open to feedback and respect boundaries around allotted time and projects you'd like to help with, but you need to be willing to be an active participant in creating a plan around what you want to do. Sometimes the inn takes precedence over outdoor planting projects, so be prepared to help out there as well for at least part of your hours.
This place is really special, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be there even if just for a short time <3Vom Host für Workawayer (Amanda)

I really enjoyed my experience volunteering here. The area was really scenic and peaceful, there were a lot of different things to do and learn about, and I got to meet a lot of really great people.

There is a non-profit associated with the farm that I was able to help with as well. The organization promotes the farm’s regenerative practices and works on different sustainability projects with local communities.
They also have an 20 room bed and breakfast style inn, which the volunteers also live in and help maintain. We did a lot of fun communal dinners, outings, hikes and other stuff with the volunteers and the handful of longer term residents staying at the inn.
There was a really good collaborative energy among the group. Michael and Brahm are great at sharing the inspiration for what they are doing, not just delegating tasks randomly. There were so many projects to work on it was easy to find things that were interesting for each volunteer. The environment was very accommodating to sharing different perspectives on how to solve problems and work towards bigger goals.
The area is quite rural, but there is a small town about a 30 minute walk away with a some shops and a few really good restaurants. The M&M Tavern Lone Ranger burger is spectacular. The two bigger cities Pittsfield and Albany are 15 and 30 minutes drive for anything else.
I definitely hope to be back to the farm in the future to see how things are progressing and reconnect with this great group!Vom Host für Workawayer (Kirin)

This was very helpful to our mission of strengthening the soil and helping people facing food insecurity to have more adequate food and better nutrition.

This place is seriously special, and immediately one of the best Workaway experiences I have ever had. I stayed here for around a month and a half, and if I didn't already have something lined up for afterwards, who knows how long I would've stuck around...
Pretty much everyone I met during my time here was someone worth writing home about; I met

One of my favorite parts about staying here too was that I received multiple opportunities to meet and hangout/help people outside of the inn, which made me feel that much more connected to the community in the area. This was my first time doing a Workaway with my dog as well, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Everyone was so unbelievably welcoming towards the both of us, and I felt at home within a short span of time.
While here I got to help set up the chicken coop area, prune some trees (WAY more fun than one would think), plant seedlings, transplant trees (and plant my first tree!), make flower arrangements, help with cooking and cleaning, and write a play?! In addition to this, we had movie nights, did group hikes, played card games, had family dinners, and the most rocking jam sessions. Some of my favorite memories from here are the conversations we had just sitting around the dinner table after eating an epic meal together, chatting and laughing.
The people here are building/creating something really amazing, and it was so great to be a part of it, even just for a little while. The town of New Lebanon is small but adorable, and home to the friendliest post office in the world (seriously, go mail a package from there, you won't be disappointed)!
Open and honest communication is valued here, which I really appreciate. New ideas are welcomed too, and feedback (both positive and negative) is encouraged. I'm super grateful to Michael for allowing me to come in the middle of February when it seemed like no other hosts were going to accept me, but even in the winter when everything seems to be asleep there was still a ton of beauty to be noticed. I got to watch a hail storm roll over the hills and stand in the middle of frozen pond watching a wild beaver swim lazy laps. That being said though, I cannot wait to see how this place looks in the summer! I will definitely be back, and recommend this place to anyone seeking out a wonderful community to become a part of.Feedback

What an incredible place to stay, live, learn, grow and form connections. I stayed at the inn for nearly a month, a bit longer than I was expecting because there continued to be projects and events that I wanted to participate in, and because I was enjoying everything so much - socializing with the other workawayers and guests, exploring the local
… read more area, and seeing progress on projects in the garden as we wrapped it up for winter.
My main area was working in the garden with Brahm - we did what the season dictated and harvested kale, radishes, horseradish, and a few other things, put the garden beds to rest for the winter, weeded and re-organized some elements of the garden, and constructed/filled/planted raised beds. Other tasks included cleaning up the inn, helping with the food rescue program, food processing and cooking, as well as other small things that came up as the work flowed. Everything was fun since it was done as a team and Brahm is an excellent teacher and communicator, emphasizing skill building and experiential education for all volunteers. I even got to learn how to use a chain saw!
My work with Michael centered on developing a curriculum for potential future students, retreat guests, or interns that come to the inn. While there are a lot of projects going on that occupy present attention, Michael still has a long-term vision for the inn as a place for experiential education, community building and finding solace and connection in our ever more complicated society. His passion is evident and his ability to act as a platform for individuals of many backgrounds, interests and strengths to come together and work so well is impressive and appreciated.
Many of the projects are in there first few years, including the food forest, and I look forward to seeing how they progress. No question that this is a special place with a lot to offer. If you're looking to work hard, have fun, learn new things, meet amazing people, and have a memorable experience, look no further!Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.

Well, I was there. I spent nearly three months with Micheal, meeting some of the most interesting and exciting people; fellow WAers, guests, and locals all drawn to the multifaceted project, not just an inn in a historic building with a rich cultural and spiritual history but also a nonprofit eco-village disrupting food which would otherwise go to

I felt that a variety of my needs as a Workawayer were attended to-whether through the nourishing dinners and frequent check-ins, as well as through space for independent work and exploring the beautiful land that surrounds the property. While I worked on the educational curriculum, there is a multitude of opportunities to be involved with the project depending on your interest, given the wide range of aims of the center and property. The area itself is rife with deep historical significance for anyone interested in alternative living and communities (Shakers used to live there, a number of spiritual centers, etc), and the inn is filled with books to help situate oneself in the place (as well as places to read them-you haven't lived until you've read a book on a snowy morning in the waterfall room!) I highly recommend volunteering at the Inn, and being open with Michael as to what you are seeking to learn and which skills you wish to improve upon during your travels, as he is the type of host who would respond to that with true attention.Du kannst nur Workawayer mit aktiver Mitgliedschaft kontaktieren.
