2027 will be my 6th year hosting workawayers and I enjoyed meeting so many different people and giving them the opportunity to experience rural Ireland

We have a 120 year old farmhouse, around 18km's Kilometres from Kilkenny city and 3km for the village. There is a bus service to Kilkenny from the village each afternoon. Our home is surrounded by farmland, with lots of beautiful walks on our doorstep. Our village is a lovely community with lots going on. I am interested in hosting all nationalities - I love to learn of others cultures and life experiences

Irish is a beautiful language (taithí a dheánnann máistreacht) and our culture is one of Ceol, Teanga, agus Craic… agus Cead míle fáilte

We have finished renovating the farmhouse around 2 years ago and are focusing on the next phase - the outside!
We will be continuing the work in the garden, extending the lawns into fruit and vegetables area, last year we added 2 polytunnel vegetable planting....
We had a small woodland/copse area, that due to a severe storm we had to take down around 70 trees, which was such a shame... this will be a big project to tame the wilderness it has become… it will be important to regenerate this area which is around a 1/3 of an acre. ...
we have lots of tasks and projects to progress, no skills needed, just a willingness to get stuck and and an opportunity to get creative! In recent years we have planted apple tress, hazelnut and walnut trees and Workawayers have also gotten creative, building rockeries, wildflower gardens, bird houses and hedgehog houses....

We have 2 dogs, cats and hens….. Kelly is the newest addition to our big gentle lad .. a rescue that has been with us 2 years now. he is a GSD 4yrs old and was adopted from a shelter, he has a big bark but is a scared dote, once he gets to know you he’s a gentleman. Workawayers have made such a positive impact on him since he’s lived with us.
Cara (the Irish word for friend) is the black border collie and she is 5years old and full of energy and love, she’ll happily go on a 10km hike with you and look to say is that it at the end 😁
We have an outdoor farm cats, and 2 other cats that were rescue kittens and now all doing a great job at keeping the mice away!
We also have hens who are great characters, they are very curious and also like company - fresh eggs every day that taste amazing.

There is No smoking anywhere on the property
If you like to cook, you would be welcome to cook anything you would like to contribute to the family. The pantry is kept well stocked.

**Please note I cannot accommodate nut allergies or vegan diets** If you have other dietary requirements such as soya/gluten, we do have some products in our pantry and the local town/supermarket that stocks such products is 15km's away.

A bit about me, Susan. I have 2 grown children Holly and Harry - Holly is living and working in Madrid Spain and my son Harry is an outdoor adventure instructor, sailing, kayaking and lots of other sports, and works down in Cork. I work full time, for a technology company and travel up and down a few days a week to Dublin, I enjoy connecting with people and one of the best parts of working for my company is that we have 60+ nationalities working in our Dublin office from all across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

I usually host 2-3 workawayers at a time, which I have found works really well and is fun for everyone - great to have a buddy visiting Kilkenny with!
I usually ask Workawayers to help in the mornings with afternoons and weekends your own for exploring the local area. Though there may be instances where specific tasks / farm work will need you to be flexible but I always ensure that you get the time back with additional time off.
We have Netflix and Amazon prime, as well as board games and playing cards.
Dinner time is always a great opportunity to chat and connect together - I enjoy cooking, but I also enjoy learning new recipes that you want to share! I love baking bread, cakes, scones and savoury dishes. If you would like to try some traditional Irish food I'm very happy to bake and cook those meals for you to try.

I am an animal lover who likes hiking and taking the dogs on long walks, you are of course welcome to join me. I love pottering around with different jobs on our property. I really enjoy tending to our vegetables and flowers that we grow.
I love meeting people from other countries and cultures and love to share our culture with people and learning new things from our Workawayers about their countries, traditions and lives.

    Hoping to hear from you

    Susan

Feeding and fresh water daily for the dogs, cats and hens.
    Collecting the hens eggs daily
Cleaning hen house once a week
Depending on what time of year your stay is, garden tasks will be anything from

I want you to feel comfortable and at home with us - I will encourage you to cook with everyone as it’s great to experience your foods and customs as well as you experiencing ours.
I want you to especially enjoy your experience here and improve your spoken English language as much as possible while here. The main reason helpers come to Ireland on Workaway programs is to improve their English language. We will make mealtimes a key part of the day where we all come together - chat, discuss and get to know one another, which all helps develop your spoken English skills... I have basic German - mein Deutsch is nicht sehr gut, but I would love to practice and improve

We also have tons of board games, cards and there is AmazinTV and Netflix also.

ALL races, religions, cultures, characters and orientations are welcome here. The world is a far better and more interesting place with a rich diversity and I am proud of how diverse and inclusive Ireland has become.

We have 2 dogs, Kelly is 4 years old Cara is 5 years old. They are both very friendly once they get to know you and enjoy cuddles and a farm cat who wanders around!

We are quite rural, peaceful surrounds, lovely walks and 3km away is our lovely village
