    Hello there,
We are a family of 5 looking for someone who enjoys simple living, being outdoors and getting in touch with nature. We (the parents: Miro and Veronika) are both teachers, so summer holiday is time for us to dive into all those long postponed projects, catch up with garden work, think of completely new projects... It is time to go hiking, to pick herbs in the surrounding woods, to make jams and sirups and eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, to talk and spend time together.

We have been Workawayers/HelpXers ourselves (with our children) and we have hosted people before, we have traveled some (with and without children) and we have volunteered both long and short-term (also with our children), so we have an idea of what you might need and what challenges people face when they travel or are in a foreign country.

    Kultureller Austausch und Lernmöglichkeiten

We like to meet people and listen to their stories, learn from them, learn about their culture and way of life. In return, we will try to show you round as much as we can and as much as our youngest child allows. Depending on your interests, our daughter can take you to the dog shelter where she volunteers as a dog walker; our son will play basketball with you or take you to the via ferrata not far from our home. We can recommend (or take you to) short and long hikes, as well as museums, castles, calvaries, open-air museums and more.

We live in a beautiful historical town surrounded by hills. It is the perfect combination, really: nature + history + culture. In summer, there are many concerts here, music festivals and film festivals, chess competitions (if you are into that) and art exhibitions. You can easily take a bus (runs every 30 minutes or so) to a nearby town and visit the swimming pool, planetarium or the lovely park with a mini zoo.

Bus station is 2 minutes walk from our house.
Train station is 15 minutes walk from our house.
There are two bakeries just across the road.
We have a basketball court, tiny running stadium and a small outdoor fitness centre about 5 minutes walk from our house.
There is TESCO right next to the basketball court.

We have 2 guitars, a piano, a violin, a mandolin and 2 recorder flutes you can use while you are here.

We need help with (Do not worry, we will not expect you to do everything mentioned here! This is just a list of things we want to and will work on during summer and we will be happy if you can join us.):

Building a chicken coop: First we need to level out the terrain, then comes the building itself – this is the main task.

Help in the vegetable garden: watering, weeding, harvesting, pest control....as needed.

    Herb picking, herb processing.

    Making a Bug Hotel.

Disassembling, movig and rebuilding a raised bed to a different part of the garden – that is a task for late summer, involves lots of digging and running around with a wheelbarrow.

IF you are comfortable with it and IF you like children and IF you want to, possibly short babysitting now and then, if you and our young one hit it off.

    Taking care of our quails.

Occasional help with cooking + jam and sirup making (if you are into it)

General garden maintanence: whatever comes up.

As you can see, the help we would appreciate is varied. We are happy to teach any and all the skills you may need, so no worries there. We are still learning ourselves...all the time – we moved here just 3 years ago. All you need is a can-do attitude, integrity and an open mind.

  • Unterkunft

    Unterkunft

    We offer:
A garden house (2.6m x 2.8m) all to yourself: There are two chairs that fold out into a bed, we provide bed linen and blankets, and towels, of course. There is also a small table, a chair and some space for your things. If you want, we can get electricity into the house, which will also mean you have internet. There is no running water in the garden house, but a canister with drinking water for washing up and drinking will be right next to the house. You will share the bathroom with us – we ask you not to take long showers, supply of hot water is limited.

Meals 3 x a day – vegetarian + occasional fish. Can cater for gluten-free diet if needed.

Breakfast usually consists of oat porridge with fruit, or yoghurt with oats and fruit. Sometimes, we have pancakes.
Lunch is a one-course meal: vegetable patties, pasta, tortillas, salads, thick soups, tofu, casserols, rice dishes, lentils and beans.... You are welcome to make something for us as well.
Diner is bread with whatever we have at home – tofu, cream spread, peanutbutter and jam, honey, sometimes sardines, cheese, eggs and even soup... And vegetables, of course.
You can also have coffee with us, or use some of the herbs in our garden to make tea. If you need anything special or have any diet restrictions, please let us know. It is important to be well fed. Hungry people = angry people.

We can host 1, potentially 2 people. One parent + a teenager possible. However, it might be less comfortable for two people in the small Garden House. Please, let's discuss this arrangement further.

Our rules (so that we can work and have fun together in peace and friendship):

-If you damage, break or lose something, please tell us right away.
-If you are hurt or ill, please tell us right away.
-Absolutely no smoking in the house or in the garden.
-Absolutely no open fire in the garden house.
-No dogs (we can discuss other pets).
-No loud music. Set the level of volume so that only you can hear it, unless people around you ask you to turn it up.
    -No drugs, alcohol in moderation.
    -Be polite and respectful.
-Xenofobic, rassistic, bigoted, misogynous and prejudiced behaviour will not be tolerated.
-Communicate your needs, concerns, dissatisfactions, etc. If you do not tell us what you want, we will never know. You can be sure we will do the same.
    -No visitors, unless previously discussed.
-No phones or other electronic devices allowed during meals, please. We would also prefer if you put your phone away while spending time with us.
    - You keep your space and also the bathroom clean and tidy ("leave it as you found it" approach).

Good level of English is recommended, so that we can communicate and cooperate smoothly.

Shy, awkward, introverted, neurodivergent or quiet people are very welcome.
