If you wanted to discover Venezuela in a way you wouldn’t have imagined you came to the right place!
We are William, Mary, our 6 year old daughter Maia and our 3 lovely dogs and 2 cats ; a big family living in the Venezuelan Andes in a small self-built ecological paradise.
In 2010 we decided to move back to Venezuela after living 10 years in Europe with the idea to build our own house. Then we found this piece of land that was used as a trash dumpster for years and we took the challenge to not only build our house but to give back to mother Nature what was taken away from her.
So after months of cleaning the land we gathered all the useful material we found, and used it as a base to start building our own house and a farming area.
Now we succeeded in building 3 small houses and a big organic garden where we planted many types of herbs, fruits and vegetables while familiarizing ourselves with permaculture techniques.
Based on the idea of sharing all the knowledge we acquired through the years about sustainability, organic farming, self sufficiency, recycling and permaculture we created a sustainable school with the objective of reaching as many communities as we can and raise awareness about these crucial topics.

Travelers will have the chance to witness the current situation in Venezuela from a different angle, far from the instability of the country, living right in the middle of the Venezuelan Andes.
Volunteers will experience the true Andean culture, while learning how a sustainable and ecological lifestyle can positively impact a community. We will work together to make people aware of the fact that having an organic, self sufficient and sustainable way of life allows them to live more independently.
We also collaborate with different associations who support multiple causes like animal welfare, educational workshops in schools as well as private venues, and organic food markets where we sell our own food and products (medicinal and dehydrated plants, organic spices and sauces, seeds, etc).
The volunteers will be involved with us in all of these activities.
Dieses Projekt schließt möglicherweise den Umgang mit Kindern ein. Mehr Informationen findest du in unseren Verhaltensregeln und Tipps hier.
The volunteers who would join us would have the chance to live in an eco friendly environment where we would teach them everything we know about permaculture, sustainability, organic farming, recycling, bio-construction, wellness and self sufficiency.
In the last 10 years William and I managed to turn a garbage dumpster into an organic farm with 3 houses and an edible garden with different kind of medicinal plants, herbs, vegetables and fruits; all built with our own hands.
Now we are looking for people who are proactive, motivated and eager to learn about this way of living which is necessary nowadays. The tasks they would perform will mostly involve gardening, maintenance, planting, animal care, music projects and cooking.
The daily tasks that the volunteer would help us with will give us more time to develop the next step of our journey: the sustainable school. A rehabilitated Bus which would serve as a 'nomad' school where we would travel across South America helping and teaching communities about a self-sufficient and sustainable way of living.
Volunteers can always advise us on which activities or subjects they are interested in and we would organize special workshops for them to acquire all that knowledge and take it with them everywhere they travel.

We offer volunteers a private 2 floor cabin of 34 sq/m with its own bathroom, living room and private balcony. There is hot water available, electricity, washing machine, WIFI, space for a hammock.
We live in another cabin so you can enjoy your privacy in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
We provide breakfast for all volunteers. We also provide a kitchen and a fridge for you to use during the day or your days off. There is also a small supermarket 15 minutes away by bicycle where you can buy all your necessities.
We are a couple with a 6 year old daughter, 3 dogs, 2 cats and 5 chickens so as you can imagine we live quite a calm and rural life. However we are pretty active during the day, always busy with our daily routine but we always find time to play some music, have some drinks and go for long walks through the woods.
William is a musician who is always open to learn and share new musical experiences with everyone.
We are also vegetarians so all of our diet is based on that, nevertheless you are always free to buy your own food (including meat) and enjoy all of our meals together.
The property is on a hill located in a semi-rural area, 8 kilometers from the small town of Ejído and 19 kilometers away from Mérida city, the capital of the state.
We will provide a bicycle for all volunteers to use during their stay. In your free time you can visit the city of Mérida, where you can find many attractions, specially the highest and longest cable car in the world reaching the top of Pico Bolívar, the highest point in Venezuela (5’000m).
You can go to the Páramo La Culata (1h by bus) a unique native type of mountain or visit the different Thermal Baths and Hot Springs located at different distances in the area.
There is also public transport available: 15 minutes walking distance from the property to Ejido (around 15 minutes) and also to downtown Mérida (45 minutes).
