Vom Workawayer (Lucia) für Host
I spent four great weeks with Marie and her family. I highly recommend this workaway experience. The work is varied and ranges from painting, light renovation work and activities in the beautiful garden. Being able to be part of changes in the house was a nice satisfying feeling.
The house is not far from Nantes. So you can discover both the
… read more quiet country life, but also the city of Nantes, which is very beautiful in my opinion. Marie and his family are open and happy to show you around and typical specialities from the region.

I spent a great week with Marie and her kids! I really enjoyed my experience with them and also the work I had to do, mostly gardening, DIY and some cooking (especially making apple compote!) was always fun. I can only recommend staying with them and would definitely stay with them again :)

Eva spent a week at home with us. She helped with gardening, DIY, general maintenance and cooking. She worked very efficiently and is an interesting person to know. We shared nice moments eating crepes and talking. I recommend her !
My experience with Caroline as a workawayer was wonderful: she spent 10 days with me and managed the painting of the doors. She was very effective at work and helped me a lot. This experience was also a very nice human meeting and we had very good exchanges. Caroline started learning french and even tryied again to bike. We also shared nice meals

Marie agreed to my visit very late and it turned out to be outstanding. Marie and I clicked, immediately felt comfortable together and straight away decided that the priority for my time there would be to paint the doors and doorframes.
The work was easy and we had lots of laughs, with handles fitted upside down, doors lugged up and down the
… read more stairs...I was amazed that I managed that too... chickens persuaded to lay eggs..unsuccessful, haha...and great shared cooking experiences.
Marie plied me with local delicacies and I cooked a South African dish called bobotie, all enjoyed.
We went to a local music festival and Marie persuaded me to go on her bike, what fun.
Her home is in a small quiet village without shops, so a place for contemplation, not a party house. If you want to be a help and want to learn about that part of France I would say
Marie is a fabulous, genuine and kind person and wonderful as a host. My few days with her were so good and I highly recommend her and her many projectsFeedback

We spent 2 weeks in december and january together with the family, friends and Kylie was part of the family.
She's a very creative, social and interesting person, who doesn't mind working.

She worked always with happiness and was interested in every project I could propose.
We had nice exchanges and could share our views on how to arrange my garden, since I just began the permaculture project.
We also shared ideas on ecology, society, good meals (I learnt a lot of vegan dishes) and music.
I was a great experience.
My 2 teenagers would like to add that it was a pleasure to discuss, play and cook with Kylie, she was always joyfull and smilling.

Wow, how to describe my time with Marie and her sweet family? I was honored to be their very first workawayer, and I can easily say that in my near three years of living the worktrade lifestyle this experience was one of the most wholesome and gratifying! I spent a little over two weeks in total with Marie, her two funny and intelligent kids Lea
… read more and Paul, and their adorable and playful cat Tigrou. I happened to be there during times when family members, friends, neighbors and other loved ones came to visit, as well as a time when everyone was out of town and I took care of the house on my own. Every bit of it was a true pleasure!
Unfortunately I brought a bad cold with me when I first arrived and was low in spirits and energy, but Marie was so understanding and patient when I needed to rest and recover, and even shared some of her natural remedies with me. During the second week we compared ideas for her garden and came up with a plan, one that I carried out usually by myself while Marie was at work. On weekends she was happy for us to work together. We built a giant herb spiral and I made good progress on a hügelkultur bed as well. Seeing this massive transformation of the garden was such a fulfilling experience.
Something that makes Marie's place really special is that the work is based on a permaculture foundation and is done with a true effort to caretake and respect the land. Marie has a lot of knowledge about plants (she has a degree in agronomy) and is also extremely open minded and curious to other's opinions, thoughts, knowledge and creative ideas. This characteristic of hers is what made me feel so comfortable- knowing that I could share my perspective without receiving judgement.
Marie and I shared lovely and easy conversation, with lots of laughs and delicious food in between. Her kids are absolutely a joy and speak great English as well, and I loved playing games and exchanging music with them. On my last night Marie, her partner Alexi and I had a bit of a jam session (or bœuf, I learned, in French) with our guitars and Marie's cool mini saxophone instrument! This family has a way of putting you at ease and making you feel so welcome and included.
