Beschreibung
Our Story: We’re Michelle & Tony, and this has been our labour of love since moving to Portugal in 2019. The old farmhouse is now 95% complete, and we’re focusing on the gardens and outdoor spaces to make it truly shine. Our dream is to create a sustainable, drought-friendly landscape with flowers, hedges, shaded spots, and traditional calçada pathways.
What We’re Working On: Most of the work is outdoors: gardening, planting, landscaping, laying pathways, building a pergola and a catio, and setting up irrigation. There are also a few finishing touches like painting, light carpentry, and styling spaces for guests. If you enjoy being active outdoors and love animals, you’ll feel right at home — we share the Quinta with our friendly dog and many cats.
What We Offer: You’ll stay in a comfortable private annexe, enjoy good food, and be part of a relaxed, friendly home. We love cooking, conversation, and meeting people from different cultures. Soon we’ll host small retreats and events to support the project, so you’ll be part of the journey as the Quinta takes its final shape. In addition, we will pay you the minimum wage for the days that you work on the outdoor projects (4 days per week).
Why You’ll Love It Here: The Quinta is peaceful and full of sunshine, orchards, and birdsong — yet close to beaches, markets, and lively villages. You’ll find big skies, starry nights, and plenty of space to unwind. We’d love to share this place with people who enjoy nature, simple living, and community.Arten von Hilfe und Lernmöglichkeiten

Cultural Exchange
Life at the Quinta is relaxed and social. Workawayers will share meals with us, spend time outdoors with our animals, and often wind down the day together on the terrace. We enjoy good conversation, cooking, and sharing stories, and we hope volunteers feel like part of our extended family while they’re here.
We’re close to local markets, cafés, and villages, and we encourage Workawayers to explore the Algarve — whether it’s beaches, hiking trails, or cultural festivals. When possible, we like to introduce people to trusted local friends and neighbours so they can get a feel for the real Portugal beyond the tourist side.
We’re currently hosting various events and guest residencies in the house (in the three en-suite rooms) to help fund the final stages of renovation. Workawayers are welcome to join in if they wish — a chance to meet different people, share ideas, and enjoy the energy of community gatherings.
We’re happy to share what we’ve learned about renovating in Portugal, sustainable gardening, and life in the Algarve as expats. Tony has a passion for antiques, and Michelle brings years of experience in events, hospitality, and creative projects — so there’s always knowledge and ideas to exchange.
We’re also open to language exchange. We are learning Portuguese and would enjoy practicing with native speakers, while we’re happy to help others improve their English. This is a nice extra part of the experience, but our main focus remains on the renovation and outdoor projects.
By hosting Workawayers, we hope to keep learning from people with different skills, backgrounds, and cultures. Everyone brings something unique, and we love the idea that each person who joins us leaves a little piece of themselves in the Quinta.Die vom Gastgeber angebotene Vergütung entspricht dem Mindestlohn

Arbeit
The Kind of Help We Need: Most of the work here is outdoors as we finish the gardens and create welcoming spaces around the Quinta. We’re especially looking for people with experience in landscaping and outdoor construction who can help with:
- Landscaping & Planting: designing and planting drought-tolerant flowers, hedges, and trees, setting up irrigation, mulching, and creating sustainable garden areas.
- Hard Landscaping: laying traditional calçada (Portuguese cobblestone) or paving, and building pathways, terraces, and other durable outdoor surfaces.
- Outdoor Projects: building a pergola and shaded seating areas, and creating a catio (safe outdoor space for our cats).
- Swimming Pool & Grounds: helping with pool cleaning and upkeep to keep the area looking inviting.
- Finishing Touches: painting walls, light carpentry, and preparing spaces for future guests.
You’ll be working alongside us on some projects, but we also need people who can take initiative and work independently when required. This is not a beginner’s role — we’re looking for experienced, hands-on help. We welcome Workawayers with mixed abilities, but you must have practical experience with the projects listed above and be confident working on them. Depending on the job, we’d also consider bringing in additional support.
Animal lovers will feel at home here too, as our friendly dog and cats are part of everyday life.Sprachen

Workawayers will stay in the Annexe, a self-contained studio apartment within our home. It’s been recently refreshed and includes a king bed, private bathroom, fitted kitchenette, and its own terrace with a barbecue — so you’ll have comfort and independence while still being part of the Quinta’s daily life.
You’ll also be welcome to use the shared spaces: the pool, jacuzzi, gardens, roof terrace, and snug. The atmosphere here is private and peaceful, but also social if you’d like to join in — we often share meals, afternoon tea, and relaxed evenings in the courtyard or garden.
This isn’t a holiday rental but a place we’re shaping into a small community. We also host events and residencies to help fund the final stages of renovation, and Workawayers are welcome to take part if they wish.
We share the estate with a friendly dog and several rescue cats. They’re part of daily life here, though never allowed in guest bedrooms, the kitchen, or the dining room. Was noch ...
Free Time & Local Area: On days off, Workawayers can enjoy the Algarve’s beaches, coastal walks, and traditional villages. We’re close to Loulé and Vilamoura for markets, cafés, and shops, and only a short drive from Faro. There are also great hiking trails and cycling routes nearby.
Transport: A car is useful to explore more widely, but there are local buses and trains that connect the main towns and coastal areas.
Our Way of Life: We live simply and with respect for nature. Quiet mornings, shared meals, and evenings outdoors are part of the rhythm here. We’re friendly and social, but also value peaceful time — a balance of community and independence.
Events at the Quinta: We are currently hosting events and guest residencies in the main house to help fund the final stages of renovation. Workawayers should be aware there may be guests on-site, and are welcome to take part if they wish.

Digital Nomads We welcome digital nomads who want to combine remote work with hands-on outdoor projects. The annexe has reliable Wi-Fi, a quiet space to work, and plenty of natural light. Most of the help we need is practical and outdoors, so you’ll need to balance screen time with physical work. Tasks are usually scheduled in the mornings when it’s cooler, leaving afternoons and evenings free for remote work or exploring. This is a good fit if you’re looking for a base in the Algarve where you can contribute your skills while also keeping up with your professional projects.
Platz zum Abstellen von Camper Vans
Campervans & Motorhomes We can host Workawayers travelling in their own camper van or motorhome. There’s space on the property for parking, with access to the gardens and shared outdoor areas. At the moment, we don’t have full campsite facilities, but we can provide electricity and water connections as needed, and you’ll still be welcome to share meals, use the pool, and be part of daily life at the Quinta. This option is best suited to people who enjoy a semi-independent setup while still joining in with the community atmosphere here.
