(I so appreciated that they didn't jump right into English but rather let me figure out what I was trying to say.) Jamila coordinated the work I was involved in and did a great job showing me what to do and being available with any questions I might have. I wish I'd been more handy to have been able to help with some of the renovation projects on the farm but, unfortunately, I'm not and that was fully OK. They let me help in the ways I could and made me feel useful regardless. Aumenau is a small village, but nice. they have also recently opened an ice cream parlor for those with a sweet tooth. talking about the family, Jamila is always willing to chat on any topic; unfortunately I haven't had much contact with Paul because my knowledge of German is close to zero; Jamiro is in his teens so he spends a lot of time with friends or in his room, but he has always appreciated everything I cooked; Eliah is a child with a lot of energy but you need to know how to stimulate his curiosity and his abilities. … read more Paul in den Familienalltag mit den beiden lieben Jungs integriert. Es war eine Freude für mich, dort zu sein. Ich bin sehr dankbar für das in mich gesetzte Vertrauen. Mein Zimmer mit Bad im Anbau stand für mich bereit und Jamilia zeigte mir geduldig die anfallenden Arbeiten und meine Fragen wurden stets beantwortet. Auch die tierischen Bewohner des idyllisch gelegenen Hofes machten es mir leicht, mich wohl zu fühlen. Kuscheln und scherzen mit der verspielten Hündin Macey oder das Zusammensein mit den durchweg braven Pferden, die mir nur mit kleinen Streichen meine Unerfahrenheit zeigten und mich nicht selten damit zum Lachen brachten.
Zu meinen Aufgaben gehörte es, morgens den Stall auszumisten, abends die Koppel von Pferdemist zu befreien, die Pferde zu füttern und im Haus mitzuhelfen, z.B. die Spülmaschine auszuräumen, staubsaugen, kochen oder bei der Zubereitung von Mahlzeiten zu helfen. Ich konnte mich nach meinen Möglichkeiten einbringen. Wir haben uns immer unkompliziert und spontan auf das geeinigt, was gerade gebraucht wurde. Von Jamila konnte ich viel über die Pferde, ihren individuellen Charakter und ihre Bedürfnisse sowie über ihre Ausbildung lernen. In meiner Freizeit habe ich es genossen, durch den malerischen Buchenwald, der das Haus umgibt, zu wandern oder einfach nur auf dem Hof in der Sonne zu sitzen und die Atmosphäre zu genießen. Der Abschied von dieser wunderbaren Truppe fiel mir schwer und ich hoffe, dass ich alle Bewohner des schönen Hofes wiedersehen werde. Ich bin sehr dankbar für die Zeit, die wir zusammen verbracht haben und kann einen Aufenthalt bei Jamila und ihrer Familie nur empfehlen.

It was my first workaway assignment and I was a bit excited. Thanks to Jamilia and her family, my worries evaporated very quickly. Communication was smooth and reliable right from the start. The friendly, open family made it easy for me to feel welcome. I was integrated into the family's everyday life with the two adorable boys in a very natural and relaxed way. It was a pleasure for me to be there. I am very grateful for the trust placed in me. My room with bathroom in the annex was ready for me and Jamilia patiently showed me the work to be done and my questions were always answered. The animal inhabitants of the idyllically situated farm also made it easy for me to feel at home. Cuddling and joking with the playful dog Macey or being with the all well-behaved horses, who only showed me my inexperience with little pranks.
My tasks included mucking out the stable in the morning, clearing the paddock of horse manure in the evening, feeding the horses and helping out in the house, e.g. cleaning out and putting away the dishwasher, vacuuming, cooking or helping to prepare meals. I was able to contribute according to my possibilities. We always agreed on what was needed in an uncomplicated and spontaneous way. I was able to learn a lot from Jamila about the horses, their individual character and needs, as well as about their training. In my free time, I enjoyed walking through the picturesque beech forest that surrounds the house or just sitting in the sun on the farm and enjoying the atmosphere. It was hard for me to say goodbye to this wonderful troupe and I hope to see all the residents of the beautiful farm again. Ich wurde so herzlich bei Jamila und ihrer Familie aufgenommen und habe mich fast als Familienmitglied gefühlt.
Ich hatte vor meinem Workaway bei Jamila absolut keine Erfahrung mit Pferden und durfte mich trotzdem auch alleine um die Pferde kümmern. Morgens habe ich sie raus und abends wieder reingelassen. Morgens habe ich zusammen mit Jamila
… read more die Pferdeboxen gesäubert und abends habe ich oft die Weide von Pferdemist befreit. Ich durfte jederzeit die Pferde besuchen, sie putzen oder trockenes Brot geben. Die Pferde waren alle super lieb :)
Auch mit Macey, der Hof- und Familienhündin habe ich mich gleich super verstanden.
Sonst durfte ich tagsüber ab und zu kochen, mit dem Jüngsten mal Hausaufgaben, verschiedene Dienstleister empfangen, im Haushalt mithelfen (Spülmaschine und staubsaugen), einen Schrank streichen, einmal gab es was im Garten zu tun und natürlich mich auch erholen :) Einen Ausflug in die Limburger Altstadt mit Besichtigung vom Dom gab es auch mit anschließendem Lebensmittel-Einkauf. Bei keinen von den Aufgaben gab es eine Pflicht.
Ich hatte mein eigenes Zimmer mit Schlafcouch und separatem Bad.
Einzig und allein der Abschied von allen fiel mir schwer... :)
Meine Zeit bei Jamila und ihrer Familie war so schön, dass ich auf jeden Fall wiederkomme. Ich kann einen Aufenthalt dort nur wärmstens empfehlen.

I was so warmly welcomed by Jamila and her family and almost felt like a family member.
I had absolutely no experience with horses before my workaway with Jamila but was even allowed to take care of the horses on my own. In the morning I let them out and in the evening I brought them in again. In the morning I cleaned the horse boxes together with Jamila and in the evening I often cleared the pasture off from horse manure. I was allowed to visit the horses at any time, clean them or feed them with dry bread (they love it).
The horses were all super sweet :)
I also had a great time with Macey, the farm and family dog.
In addition, I was allowed to cook from time to time during the day, once I helped out with the homework for the youngest, I received various service providers, helped in the household (dishwasher and vacuuming), repainted a cupboard, once there was something to do in the garden and of course I also relaxed a lot :) There was no obligation for any of the tasks.
A trip to the old town of Limburg with a visit to the cathedral was also possible with grocery shopping subsequent.
I had my own room with sofa bed and separate bathroom.
Only the farewell to all of them was difficult for me... :)
My time with Jamila and her family was so nice that I will definitely come back again. h

Ich war sehr gerne bei Jamila und ihrer Familie zu Gast. Die ganze Familie hat mich sofort sehr nett und freundlich aufgenommen. … read more Aufgaben waren (mehr als) fair und machbar. So habe ich z. B. morgens und abends die Pferde gefüttert und den Stall ausgemistet. Mein Fokus lag also in diesem Fall sehr auf den Pferden. Aber auch der ein oder andere Zusatzauftrag im Garten konnte von mir erledigt werden. Ich denke, hier ist für jeden Worker (und für jede Fähigkeit) etwas dabei.
Aber auch die Zeit zusammen mit dem Rest der Familie (Paul, Jamiro und Eliah) kam nicht zu kurz. So gab es das ein oder andere lustige, spannende und tiefgründige Gespräch. Sei es beim Frühstück, Mittagessen oder Abendessen. Abends wurde auch öfters mal zusammen ein Brettspiel oder eine Runde Karten gespielt.
Ich habe mich während meiner Zeit auf dem Hof sehr wohlgefühlt und kann nur jeder/jedem empfehlen auch mal ein Workaway bei Jamila einzulegen :).

I really enjoyed staying with Jamila and her family. The whole family immediately welcomed me in a very nice and friendly manner. As a worker, I had my own little room with a bathroom and a view of the courtyard. The farm dog (Macey) and I also became friends quickly, so that we too have become a strong team.
The tasks to be completed were (more than) fair and doable. I have e.g. B. fed the horses in the morning and in the evening and mucked out the stable. So my focus in this case was very much on the horses. But I was also able to take care of one or the other additional job in the garden. I think there's something for every worker (and skill) here.
But also the time together with the rest of the family (Paul, Jamiro and Eliah) was not neglected. So there was one or the other funny, exciting and profound conversation. Be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. In the evening we often played a board game or a round of cards together.
