… read more working in the Community Center were fun as the Center is doing so much good in the community. We spent so many hours teaching English games and playing futbol with the sweetest kids. The joy and excitement of the community to receive foreigners in their town is unmatched and we spent countless hours drinking cups of tea and coffee and learning about life in Palestine. We also felt very safe in ad-Dhahiriya as you’re really joining a big family! From chatting over homemade dinners and learning arabic over iced coffee to card games and dancing at weddings, we hold the fondest memories of our time here.
If you are looking for a culturally enriching experience with the most hospitable people in Palestine, we can’t recommend ad-Dhahiriya enough. We loved every second of our time here and look forward to going back. Dr. Raed is incredibly communicative from the beginning and is attentive to any questions or anything you may need. I stayed in Daharia for 1 month and it was a very positive experience. Daharia is a nice town south west Hebron, quite calm and safe compared to other palestinian cities. … read more constantly invited in different families. My extremely basic knowledge of arabic was useless cause you never get to ask for food or drinks, you will be constantly offered tea, coffee and food before you even think you are hungry or thirsty.
I really liked working with the kids at the centre, I was teaching english and french but we also drew and danced and played a lot.
Raed and his family are extremely caring and they'll do their best to make you feel good.
We were also often taken to other places to visit. I had many occasion to deepen my knowledge on Palestine and complexify my point of view.

Dr Raed is a beautiful person who will make you feel at home and will do every thing that is possible for your experience in Palestine to be unique and enriching.
The workload at the center is very little as you can decide at what pace you want to conduct lessons with the children. In addition, working with the municipality in the morning is a very interesting experience which allowed me and the other volunteers to propose cultural and artistic projects to the city's council, and to discover more about the history of Dahria.
The Hostel in which you will be staying is beautiful, in the center of the old city, and has all the services you will need.
The best part of my experience was the people I met, who have been the most welcoming, open and kind in the world, and I cannot wait to be able to visit them again. The experience was absolutely positive. During the mornings I was involved in tre municipality establishing relations with foreign organisations and institutions. There is the chance of teaching languages in schools, but unfortunately I arrived in the city during
… read more holidays and exams so I could not participate in this Kindle of work. In the afternoons, I assisted the children at the centre. I mainly taught English, but the centre is new and there are many possible activities. I think it's worth staying for more than three weeks to try to start your own project with the children. Raed and the rest of the crew are very open to new ideas and will give space for your creativity. There is also a great need in the municipality and, once you have familiarised yourself with the environment, you have the opportunity to make a great contribution.
I was lucky enough to meet very kind citizens, super willing to help me and make me enjoy the experience in the most genuine way possible (literally every day someone will invite you for lunch, tea or coffee).
As for accommodation, the volunteers stay in a beautiful newly renovated hostel in the old city. Here you will find Ahmad, a young volunteer who is learning English and who will assist you during your stay.

My four-week experience was totally amazing and highly recommended. One of the most interesting parts for this volunteering is the place, Dahria. Although I went to the West Bank in 2018 and visited some tourists places including Ramallah, Nablus, and Hebron, Dahria has quite different vibes which give you some sense of what local lifestyle looks

The centre has just started quite recently and a lot of things are in progress, which means that volunteers have a plenty of opportunities to participate in activities with local people. My main work was to teach kids english that includes daily two-hour session and its preparation. Besides, I also got some precious experience such as a meeting with the municipality and Japanese-Arabic language exchange with a high school student. Recently, the centre's garden has been built, so everything is changing time by time. I would say if you are highly motivated to volunteer for the centre, you have many things you can do with the main host, Raed, and other volunteers!
The local community is overwhelmingly generous and heartwarming in the sense that people welcome foreign volunteers as their family. I, no doubly, enjoyed every single experience with them, that includes making Mansaf with the most talented guy I've ever met in the hostel kitchen, participating in the wedding party, and a one-day trip to Hebron. I can't appreciate more all my friends who made my stay life-changing and something to miss a lot!
It was a bit challenging time for me since I was writing my master thesis on Palestine and had to balance my study with volunteering. However, Raed not only understood my situation but also gave me some hints that helped me to understand the local contexts. I am sure that there is a lot of flexibility in the work and you can discuss it with him.

This experience was completely life-changing for me. I have made connections with people I will never forget, and the kids truly touched my heart. … read more at the center (for two different age groups), and an English class to the municipality staff three times a week. I also helped with some office work, maintaining the garden, and worked on project proposals. My favorite part was teaching the English classes to the students at the center. Every day, I would prepare English speaking games for the students to play. It could be challenging sometimes to communicate, but seeing their progress was so rewarding. If you have a specific skill or class you would like to teach, the center is very welcoming to everyone. I was there in the summer (May/June), so Dr. Raed was mostly at the center. Either way, you have a lot of flexibility with what you want to do with your days.
I recommend visiting other parts of Palestine, which Dr. Raed will help with! He took me to different cities like Ramallah, Bethlehem, and even the village my family used to live in! He really wants you to emerge in the culture, and is willing to help with the Arabic language for those interested.
I stayed for a month, and though you can stay as long as you want, I recommend staying for about that time or longer. Making connections with the community and students really helped my stay and made it feel like home. I stayed in the hostel, which was less than five minutes walking to the center. It is safe and I had the room to myself, and the kitchen was nice to have.

During my stay, I focused on teaching English to the kids which was a bit challenging as they didn't have much prior experience learning English. My experience with the place was overwhelmingly positive. AlDahrieh is an interesting place with very welcoming people.
It is a very new education centre so it is still discovering its role in the community. I volunteered in person withe the center for six weeks and no day was the same as another. I focused on teaching English, which I did for
… read more advanced teenage learners and adults at the local municipality office.
We worked on a range of interesting and diverse projects while I wad in AlDahrieh including:
• Assiting the municipality with promoting tourism in the town.
• Raising awareness about the need for donations at the local school for disabilities
• Organising educational road trips for a range of ages
• Editing project proposals for the local chamber of commerce
• Planting trees outside the center
As you can see there is the opportunity to do whatever you want as long as it supports the local community. Raed lives in Ramallah, 3 hours north of AlDahrieh, where the center is located but he spends roughly half of his time in AlDahrieh. The days when he was there tended to be a bit different for me as he likes to get around and see everyone we work with. On the days he's not there, I spent more time at the center itself.
The local hostel is very comfortable and very close to the center. The kitchen wasn't available while I was there but it is expected to be opened again soon.
