    Hey there!

We are Matias (28) and Jennifer (30), not so long ago we were travelling through Europe in our campervan, also volunteering through workaway, before spontaneously deciding to stay in one place and build a base for our family close to people we clicked with. Our two kids (3 years and 1 year) were born at home, the youngest in the house we live in now. Also dogs and cats in varying ages and sizes are a common sight.
While travelling we got interested in living in a community, growing our own food and living in harmony with nature.
We want to reclaim our sovereignty and live on our own terms, slowly detaching ourselves from the madness of society.

In May 2018 we came to the abandoned village Bratea as volunteers of our current neighbours. Within the first week we decided to stay in the developing community which is like a small village with people that like and respect each other. There's currently 5 households in our little valley, some of them are also on workaway. So it is very possible to meet other travellers and workawayers here. We sometimes have dinner together or a campfire or help each other with bigger projects.

There's also other neighbours kind of close by and some friends that want to move here. If you're looking for a place to stay yourself, you could even find it here. There are some houses for sale in the valley.

In 2019 we built our own house which is a small wooden structured cob/slipstraw house. We are living off-grid surrounded by nature, 2km away from the nearest village. Our electricity comes from photovoltaic panels, our water from a well, our firewood from the woods.
If you decide to stay with us, you will sleep in a tent with a cosy matress and blankets if you want and need. We recommend to bring your own sleeping bag (spring and autumn).
The food still mainly comes from supermarkets/markets as being self sustainable and therefore growing enough food takes some time and experience. We don't eat meat and buy less and less animal products. You can buy animal products from local farmers in the village if necessary.

    Tasks for summer/autumn 2020:
    - dig and build a cellar
    - dig a well
    - collect/cut firewood
    - harvesting, preserving
    - clearing around our property
    - prepare the garden for the next season (mulching)

In our valley we are like a small community, growing and developing. You can be a part of this and experience our way of living and helping. Most of the time there are travellers/workawayers in the valley (from our neighbours) so you can connect to others easily.
Since we learn as we go, we can only teach you what we learned so far but we think it's anyway much more important to learn from your own mistakes. So come, let's make some together and work them out to improve.

In our family we speak english, german, swedish, finnish and spanish. Other languages in the valley are dutch, french, latvian, russian and romanian. Any language you want to practice?

We provide you a tent plus matress and blanket. If it is not too wet it is possible to get up here in your campervan.

We offer you a really off-grid experience where you could train your survival skills. ;) Sleeping in a tent, using a compost toilet, taking water from a well, because there is no running water yet.
Please bring your own sleeping bag if you have one. Also warm clothes and good shoes would be preferable for autumn/winter/spring.
    Electricity and Wifi are available.

Of course food will be provided, some even from our garden already (we still go to the supermarkets).
We usually have dinner together with you. Because of the kids we don't have a fixed time to wake up, so it's easier to have breakfast on our own. Lunch is an inbetween thing. Sometimes we have it together, sometimes apart from each other. Breakfast and lunch usually are more simple, cereals, oats, porridge or bread. Dinner is always something warm. We try to buy less animal products but you could get local products (cheese, milk) from the village if you would want to. It's not always just us who cook. Until now our volunteers as well wanted to cook or at least helped in the cooking/ cleaning process which we think is a good system.

The day you come you don't have to work. We want you to be able to arrive in peace and to have the opportunity to look around. Of course if you decide after some time on helping a bit already, we won't complain. ;) Days off normally are Saturday and Sunday, but if you would like to not work another day just talk to us and we can figure it out. As well if you maybe would like to have a long "weekend", you can work more hours another day, if it works for us.

We are in plain nature, no big streets nearby but many paths to hike!
In the village down the hill (2km) you can find a bar and small shop, where you can connect to the locals or just spend some time off.
Twice a day there goes a mini bus from the village to Orastie, where you have more variety of shops and entertainment if you're looking for that. The locals know the timetable.
Hitchhiking from or to Orastie is the easiest option.
