  (Possible arrival April 8 in the evening and departure April 12 in the morning or afternoon if absolutely necessary, although ideally departure would be in the morning.)

  (You would need to pick up the key on April 17. You’re welcome to stay from the evening of April 17 if that helps.)
  
  If you arrive earlier or leave later, there are several hostels nearby where you can stay before or after the sitting period.

  ⚠️ Please only apply if you have experience with ill and/or senior cats, ideally those with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  
  Administering medication may occasionally be required. Shadow is not currently taking any medication, but in rare situations (for example if he becomes stressed) he might need a small pill.
  
  🐾 About Me & Shadow 🐾
  
  Hi! I’m Yasmine — a former teacher, now working full-time in tech.
  
  I brought my sweet cat Shadow from Toronto to Berlin. I’ve raised him since he was 8 weeks old, and he has been with me through thick and thin for over a decade. 😻
  
  Shadow was born in 2013 and is now a senior cat. He has chronic kidney disease (CKD) and pancreatitis, which can sometimes cause pain, nausea, or loss of appetite.
  
  When he’s feeling well he is very affectionate, playful, and vocal — he responds to his name and loves cuddles.
  
  He’s a gentle and emotional cat who really benefits from a calm and attentive environment.
  
  🧚‍♀️ Who I’m Looking For
  
  Please feel free to apply if you:
  
  ✔️ Are 1 person (or max 2) quiet and respectful
  ✔️ Do not smoke or party in the apartment
  ✔️ Are clean, tidy, and respectful of the space
  ✔️ Do not bring any visitors — this is very important for Shadow’s well-being and for the safety of my home
  ✔️ Come home sober and able to care for Shadow responsibly
  ✔️ Have experience caring for senior or chronically ill cats, especially CKD
  ✔️ Are patient and calm, and comfortable giving a basic oral pill if necessary
  ✔️ Can gently encourage a picky eater and feed small portions of wet food throughout the day
  ✔️ Are happy to brush him daily and scoop his litter once per day
  ✔️ Are happy to send daily updates with photos/videos and spend time keeping him company while I’m away
  ✔️ Can provide references if you do not yet have Workaway reviews
  ✔️ Are available for a short video call before confirming
  ✔️ Are comfortable meeting briefly when you arrive + handing over the keys in person before departure
  ✔️ Are comfortable showing a passport or ID upon arrival for house security purposes
  
  🐱 What Shadow Needs
  
  Shadow needs a calm, attentive person who can:
  
  • Feed wet food 2–3 times per day in small portions
  • Be patient if he walks away from food and gently encourage him
  • Change his water daily
  • Brush him once per day to prevent hairballs
  • Give a small pill if necessary (for nausea or discomfort)
  • Clean his litter box daily
  • Spend quality time with him — he really benefits from companionship while I’m away
  • Let me know if there are any concerns and send regular updates
  
  He is not a high-energy or demanding cat, but he does need someone who is present, patient, and comfortable with senior cats.
  
  🏡 About the Apartment
  
  • Located in a trendy area of Berlin near the Spree River, Treptower Park, and many cafés and restaurants in Boxhagener Platz.
  • You will sleep on a comfortable sofa bed with a new double mattress in the living room
  • The apartment will be cleaned before your stay, and I ask that it be returned in the same condition
  
  For transparency and safety, there is a small security camera in the hallway near the entrance door. It does not face the sleeping area or private spaces.

  ✨ Final Notes
  
  Unfortunately I cannot offer meals or host volunteers while I am home. This stay is a short-term house and cat sitting arrangement while I am away, in exchange for caring for Shadow.
  
  The apartment is spacious, peaceful, and in a fantastic neighborhood, and normally it would be quite expensive to rent — so I hope it’s a fair and pleasant exchange. 💛

  You will be staying in a spacious, modern apartment in a lively area of Berlin near the Spree River, Treptower Park, and many cafés and restaurants. The neighborhood around Ostkreuz and Boxhagener Platz has a vibrant atmosphere with markets, parks, and cultural spots to explore.
  
  Public transport connections are excellent, so you can easily discover other parts of Berlin in your free time.

  Arbeit

  🔺 You must be a genuine cat lover and have experience with senior cats or cats with chronic illnesses, ideally CKD.
  
  🔺 You must be able to communicate in English, Persian, Spanish, or German — this is very important.
  
  Ideally, volunteers are over 21 years old and have previous experience caring for senior cats or cats with special needs.
  
  Daily tasks include:
  
  🔺 Feeding wet food 2–4 times per day with patience and making sure he eats (I will explain his routine in more detail)
  🔺 Brushing Shadow daily to remove loose fur
  🔺 Cleaning the litter box
  🔺 Providing attention, cuddles, companionship, and a calm environment away from noise and excitement
  🔺 Giving medication if necessary (a pill or capsule, gently)
  🔺 Sending two daily updates with photos or videos of Shadow and his eating (for example morning and evening)
  🔺 Cleaning up after yourself
  🔺 Keeping the apartment tidy
